Apartment in Freshwater, Isle of Wight, England - Peaceful Location 5-10 Minute Walk From The Beach
The apartment is private and secluded with it's own garden and space to relax. It is only a short walk (5-8 mins) to the beach at Freshwater Bay and there are many walking and cycling routes from Afton. An ideal location for an Island break.

A lovely stay for all our family including the dog
Perfect base to explore the Isle of Wight. Short walk to a lovely beach and access to glorious cliff walks overlooking the sea. The main reason, initially we chose this property was because of the secure garden, but we were delighted by the apartment itself too. It was tastefully decorated, roomy with lots of little extras supplied that made it feel like home from home. Thanks to our Barney and his wife for a great stay, and lots of tips to enjoy the island.
The property lived up to its description, it was clean, well maintained (even provided a new tele whilst we were there!), and well laid out. The owner was hospitable and helpful with advice etc. There was plenty to do nearby - good walks and the sea is accessible. The Red Lion was a walkable pub for a reasonable meal.
From the Owner
“We have lived in the West Wight for 30 years It's a beautiful part of the world with a lovely rural feel but the wild south-west facing coast on our doorstep. I love the Freshwater Bay. In the summer we swim, kayak and fish for mackeral, spring and autumn is great for surfing - the Bay is one of the Island's best surf breaks - and the winter the storms are spectacular and a great time for beach combing.”
Activity and Interests
It is a 5-10 minute walk to Freshwater Bay beach, a combination of pebbles, sand and rockpools with crabs and small fish which has kept generations of small children amused. Compton Bay is the Island's surf beach and is about 5 minutes by car. Big surf is rare in the summer months but there is lots of sand at low tide on this long unspoilt beach. More sheltered and busier is another sandy beach, Colwell Bay, which is about 10 minutes by car.
There are ferries to the Isle of Wight from Portsmouth, Southampton and Lymington. The easiest route is on the Wightlink ferry from Lymington Pier to Yarmouth. The ferries run from here every 40 minutes in high season and trains run right into the ferry port. A taxi from Yarmouth is only a few pounds.
The cheapest car crossing is usually with Red Funnel Ferries from Southampton to East Cowes, which is about a half hour drive to the apartment.
Freshwater Bay is a 5-10 minute walk and the village and shops are a similar distance.
Within a mile of the Studio Apartment there are recognised areas for walking, cycling, mountain biking, swimming, snorkling, diving, fishing, surfing, sailing, windsurfing, paragliding, kite surfing, golf, horse riding and bird watching.
With one coast facing the English Channel and Atlantic Ocean and the other facing the Solent and the mainland, the West Wight has a very different atmosphere to the busier eastern side of the Island. Landmarks include Freshwater Bay, The Needles, Tennyson Down, Fort Victoria, Alum Bay Cliffs and Yarmouth Castle but there are other places like Newtown Creek - an unspoilt haven for wildlife, Hannover Point with it's dinosaur footprints on the rocks, the ancient standing stones at Mottistone and Hulverstone and beaches ranging from safe and sandy to wild and rocky! All these are a short 5-25 minute drive.
The West Wight is well known for its numerous footpaths and bridleways and has an annual Walking Festival every spring and the Cycling Festival in the Autumn. From the Studio Apartment the cliff tops are only minutes away with walks over Tennyson Down to the Needles or along the River Yar to Yarmouth.
