About the property

Jacaranda farmhouse sleeping 8 with option to book Studio sleeping max 5

Jacaranda is part of a 300 year old finca and is just a mile from the pretty Moorish village of Almogia. It is an easy walk to the 10 bars and restaurants, specialist shops, butchers, fishmongers, chemist, bank and supermarket. There are tennis courts here too. Jacaranda has both shaded and open terraces and lots of other quiet places so somewhere for all to relax. There are many plants and fruit trees, including nispero, almonds, figs, apples, oranges, lemons, limequats, apricots, nectarines, pears, grapes and carobs. Carob pods make an excellent treat for your pets so please take some home. The private pool area is superb and has a thatched cabana for shade or maybe have a massage, reiki or reflexology treatment here. There is wooden decking with sunbeds and a further terrace for dining out under the stars or maybe enjoy a beer watching the sunset. The pool is 8 x 4 metres and is fenced and gated. There are 3 bedrooms in Jacaranda, a family suite with an antique king size sleigh bed plus a smaller room, best for a cot and childs bed. or a single bed and cot and they share a bathroom. There is another double with antique 4 poster bed and a twin room ( with the option of a 3rd single) that has a wood burning stove. These rooms share a shower room. A cot and a small child's bed is also available.

The cosy sitting room has a log fire and a dining table, the kitchen is off this room and overlooks the covered terrace. This terrace has a large dining table and seating for 12/14, comfy sofas to relax on, some children's toys and a football table.

There is further accommodation in the downstairs studio which has a emperor sized antique 4 poster bed and the options of 2 singles plus cot or child sized bed. There is a family bathroom and there is a log fire in the sitting area. This studio is accessed from the restaurant garden and can be rented along with Jacaranda. If the main house is let the studio will not be rented separately thus ensuring the facilities are kept private. Prices for the studio only on application

Jacaranda is perfectly placed to enjoy some of Andalucia's best attractions, El Torcal with its amazing karst rock formations is nearby and boasts resident vultures, eagles and mountain goats, there is a visitor centre and an observatory here too. The newly opened Caminito del Rey is about an hour away and whilst not for the faint hearted should not be missed, El Chorro has wonderful lakes for swimming, rock jumping, picnic areas and gorge walking. Our local dam is a 10 minute drive where you can wild swim, kayak or just picnic and watch the turtles. Fishing is also possible here.

Malaga is a beautiful city with many museums and amazing exhibitions - it is also the birthplace of Pablo Picasso. It is named as one of the top 10 cities to visit. The tapas bars in the old quarter should be visited and to make it simpler and to maybe enjoy a fino or cerveza with your tapas there is a daily bus from the village, journey time is 30 mins.

The coast offers every kind of leisure activity you could wish for and there are some beautiful beaches only 40 mins away. Or maybe go further afield and visit Gibraltar with its incredible tax free prices and British flavour, or travel on to Tarifa where the Med meets the Atlantic. You can go whale and dolphin spotting from here and it is a water sports mecca as well as a beautiful old town. You can also take the hydrofoil to Morocco from here.

The major cities of Granada with its stunning Alhambra Palace and Generalife Gardens, Cordoba or the beautiful Seville can be visited in a day as they are all within a 2 hour trip. The Sierra Nevada mountains offer great ski-ing and snowboarding too. Or maybe visit Ronda with its unique gorge, great shopping and elegant restaurants, or Antequerra, a town with 24 churches, specialist shops and a very Spanish feel.

Almogia is a very traditional but laid back whitewashed village with friendly people who will greet you with ' Ola' or 'Buenos Dias' whether they know you or not !, time really has stopped here in some ways. Horses are still used as transport, bullock carts are used and goats and donkeys roam the hillsides. There is a restored castle and many fiestas throughout the year too and you will be more than encouraged to join in. The annual Feria in August is a spectacle as is Almond day on the last Sunday in September. Semana Santa or Holy week is spectacular too

We have a small bar/restaurant on site, with its own entrance - open 4 days only - where you can meet the locals, join in with the chess club or just enjoy a beer and a game of darts or pool. We serve fresh home made food using local and our own produce. There is also a beer garden to relax in.

A local Englishman provides an airport pick up service and is also available to take you out for the day at a reasonable cost.

Linen, towels and pool towels, as well as electricity is included in the rates.

We do live on site but you will have complete privacy and we are just a knock away if you need us.

We do ask for a security deposit of either £200 or 250 euros which is of course fully refundable at the end of your holiday if there is no damage.

About Kate and Bill

We came here last year from the UK to experience a different way of life and Almogia and its people has really given us that. Bill was born in Glasgow and I was born in Manchester so you can see why moving to the sunshine was important for both of us ! We are early retirees with 3 adult children and one grandson and it would seem more friends than we realised previously....

Kate and Bill purchased this farmhouse in 2014

Why Kate and Bill chose Malaga area (Costa del Sol)

Having searched for a long time we just happened by chance really on Casa Luna and for us it is just perfect, you really do know when you find the place that is right for you and this is it for us and we hope you too. The location is magical and to watch the sun rise and set over the mountains is beautiful. Almogia is old Spain with friendly people who still maintain the old traditions and we have been welcomed by the villagers and have made new friends who have helped us with the language and included us in their fiestas, village and family life. Yet we are only 30 minutes from Malaga with all its modern amenities, theatres, museums and great shopping so this really is the best of both worlds.

A Perfect Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Jacaranda is a perfect place for getting out of the fast pace of everyday life and taking time off reading books, sunbathing and enjoying the nature. We stayed there at the end of June for 10 days, with a family of 7.

We really enjoyed the location - there is a beautiful view over the valley, just outside of the windows. Also, it is private and relaxing.

What makes this place really special, is the Milos Bar downstairs - it has lovely garden, where birds are chirping in the morning, in the evening, few guests enjoying their time under smooth garden lights. We had a dinner in Milos Bar few times, the menu was interesting and everything was delicious! When Milos Bar is closed (Mon-Wed), then you can grill some food yourself. The village's shop is only a few minutes drive from the location.

The pool area is very nice for sunbathing and taking a dip, when it gets too hot in the sun. It also has a small shade, where is good to take a break from the sun. In the evening, we had a dinner near the pool area - it has all the tables and chairs needed for it right there.

The house has many places to sit outside, sip a cooling drink and enjoy the scenery. Sometimes, you can spice it up with a game of table football or perpetual puzzle game.

Finally, when you are superrelaxed and would like to look around in the area, you have all the information needed available in the house and Kate & Bill there to help you.

Thank you, Kate & Bill! You have done a wonderful work with Jacaranda, it really is a special place for a holiday!

A peaceful oasis

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday at Jacaranda. I don't think we have ever gone away on holiday and completely relaxed to the extent we did last week.

The villa has a wonderful rustic charm with large comfortable bedrooms, spacious living area and a lovely large kitchen.

The gardens surrounding the villa provide many seating, eating and sunbathing areas and there are lots of shaded areas for you to chill.

The pool area is such a lovely place to 'just be'... there are plenty of sunbeds as well as a large wooden shade canopy to relax under.

We holidayed with our 2 sons and their girlfriends and felt that we all had our own space.

Milo's bar which was open Thursday to Sunday is a great place to have a quiet drink and mix with the Spanish and English locals who are all so very friendly. There was an open mic night and our son's girlfriend sang a few songs. You can also have a break from the bbq and sample some of Kate's lovely home made dishes.

Although we would have been more than happy to chill around the villa we did feel as though we ought to make use of the car we had hired.

Around the harbour at Malaga we enjoyed a nice evening out with lots of shops, bars and restaurants.

The water park at Torremolinos was a great day out also.

On Friday morning there is a large market at Tivoli world which we found very reasonable and a large selection of stalls.

We were also fortunate to experience a meditation at the Buddist Temple in Benalmadena.

Puerto Banus is lovely and we all enjoyed a stroll around the harbour marvelling at the wonderful yachts and designer shops.

It's worth having a little Spanish phrase book handy as in Almogia some of the bars and restaurants don't have menus so sometimes we found we weren't always sure what we had ordered to eat, but we always managed!

Saving the best till last... the owners Bill and Kate are one of the nicest couples we have ever been fortunate to meet. They are so warm, friendly and welcoming and really made our holiday perfect... Thank you Kate and Bill for everything!

Owner's Response: Dear Jane and Nigel Thank you so much for your review, it really was our pleasure to have you stay here and we are so glad you all enjoyed your time in Almogia. You are a delightful family and we hope one day to see you back here. We will ask the bars in the village for their menus and then we can translate them here which should make it a little easier ! Thank you again

Booked, arrived but didn’t stay, financial loss accordingly

The property wasn’t for us, the images on the website gave a different illusion to the standards and amenities available and should be updated with recent images, not as in some cases from the previous owners.

The directions to the property, the preparation and security of the accommodation for arriving guests should have been much, much better and of the standard as other properties we have rented from owners abroad over the last 20 years.

Investment in the bedding and some of the furnishings we believe is required to bring it to the 2014 image standards.

Overall a good location but images should reflect current owner’s standards and facilities

Owner's Response: We are very sorry that Jacaranda was not for you but, as we discussed when you were here, we could not prepare the pool to its normal standard as we had had 9 days of continual rain, which is unusual for here, this also meant we could not put out the soft furnishings we normally do. We would naturally have remedied this as soon as the unprecedented weather allowed. Whilst it is true that we originally had an issue with the new keys for the porch doors to the house, the internal double doors were lockable as was the back door, also the double and single exterior garden gates to the property were lockable, all of which meant the property was secure. You declined to stay in the house at all and informed us you would return in the morning subject to us sorting the issue with the porch doors which we did. The directions are the ones we send to all our guests and we have not had any issues before with them, I appreciate that we have repainted the house since Google took their photos but the house is shown in our photos in its new colours. We were not informed of any other issues you had until 6 days later. The only photographs we have used from the previous owner were of the village and one of the family suite, and we feel that the photographs are fully representative of Jacaranda. It is a shame that you arrived in the worst weather this area has experienced for a long time and you did say to us that this had spoilt your first impressions of the house which we perfectly understand, sun is normally what you expect in Andalucia !

Perfect Escape

  • 5 of 5

I can not rate this quaint place high enough. Up in the hills with a beautiful panoramic view stretching for miles. This quiet and peaceful farm house sits. Surrounded by acres of land. The villa we stayed in was an absolute delight, an open wood fire, stunning kitchen and homely feel through out. We spent each evening sat out on the terraced roof looking out into the gardens and the hills. Town is not to far at all, a beautiful white painted hilly village, with plenty of good food and places to socialise. The hosts are a beautiful couple, who are knowledgeable about the area and happy to sit and talk with you. A perfect get away.

Great place

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect holiday. The house is so big and the grounds beautifully designed. It's a minimum fuss place where you can completely relax. Giorgio and Miriam were wonderful and great fun. We were a group of 14 and spent time at the house but also on trips. There are so many places to choose from. We did all the shopping in the village and ate out there too. Loads to do on foot and wild swimming in the reservoir and lakes north of El Chorro. Night walks back from the village were amazing - so many stars.

The house is being sublet for next year and the new people are planning on doing it up, but I hope don't lose the incredibly relaxed feeling. We all loved it there, and it felt like an escape from tourism.

If you love laid-back houses and a creative atmosphere, book.
