Cottage With Sea Views, Stiffkey, next to marsh, quiet rural private location

Overview

Property

Updated: 19-Nov-2016
Cottage in Stiffkey, North Norfolk - 2 Minutes Max Walk To The Marsh, Sea views

Barn style semi detached cottage finished to a high standard.

4 double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 of the bedrooms & 1 bathroom are on the ground floor.

Large back garden and a lot of open space round about. Far reaching views. Very child friendly. There is a small wood 80 yards away that separates the land from the sea, then the National Trust owned marshes, access is free & un-restricted.

The very pretty & charming village is a short walk of about 10mins by footpath which runs past the back garden, with fields on both sides. This path accesses the village playing field.

Why stay in a noisy cramped B&B when you can stay here? A spacious cottage with large garden surrounded by fields. Access to the marsh couldn't be easier via a mown path.

About the Owner

The owner Patrick is married to Marelle and has 2 daughters Madeleine and Alexandra and one dog an English Springer Spaniel.

We live in Freckenham Suffolk so it does not take us long to get to Stiffkey. We go every weekend to ensure the cottage is up to standard. We do not just leave it for someone else..

Perfect place for peace and quiet and to get away from the pressures of the rat race

  • 5 of 5

Excellent property and very accurate description. Furnished to a high specification and the owner has not skimped on the quality of the items in the house. Everything worked as it should and the house was very warm.

Beautiful location and literally a stone's throw to walk over the bank to the sea. Also only a short walk to the village store in Stiffkey which sells very nice freshly made croissants every day. (as well as various other items)

Owner was very quick to respond to any queries and a pleasure to deal with.

One of the best properties I have stayed in for a long while. Will try to visit again.

Location

From the Owner

Mulberry Cottage was bought by my father in 1963 when the Anti Aircraft Training Camp was de-commissioned and sold. This building was part of the camp and was used as our family's holiday home so I have known it all my life. He gave this part to me in 2007 at which time it was renovated. We all loved going there as children and now my family enjoy it. It is in an amazing location next to the marshes so we could just carry kayaks down to the creek and paddle off. The cottage is down a private road together with 3 others. It is about 100 yards from the Stiffkey marshes accessed by a public path that runs past the back of the cottage. It is a very quiet peaceful location in sight of the marsh and the sea.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Barpub : Red Lion at 1 Kilometres Car: necessary

Coast/Beach:

The marsh is a couple of minutes walk away from the cottage, after the marsh are the saltings, a huge expanse of sand then the sea. For those wanting a closer beach Wells (3m) and Holkham (5m) have very good ones especially Holkam. There is beach fishing at Cley. 'Crabbing' is popular with children in the creeks. It is very easy to catch small green crabs (inedible) in the creeks with a piece of bacon rind as bait. They get put back afterwards. It is easy to catch shrimp with a net on the marsh.

There are lovely walks to be had along the coastal path which is close to the cottage as it runs along the top of the marsh. Weybourne to Cromer is a great walk along the sand cliffs.

Travel:

A car or motorbike is best way to make the most of the area but I would recommend taking bicycles if you can.

Distances:

The village has a good freehouse pub & PO/cafe this can be walked to by the path running by the back of the cottage 10mins. There are several large houses / stately homes in the area like Holkham Hall (5m), Felbrigg Hall (15m) & Sandringham (20m). Georgian town of Holt is 10m away. Morston (3m) Blakeney (4m) can get a boat to Blakeney Point & see the seals. Hire a dingy for sailing. If you have your own boat it can be launched from Blakeney slipway for free.

Several good pubs & restaurants, Wiveton Bell, Morston Anchor, Morston Hall.

There is the Holy Shrine at Little Walsingham.

The Greek Orthodox chapel at Great Walsingham.

Muckleburgh Collection at the former Anti Aircraft Training Camp at Weybourne. WW2 museum.

Sea life aquarium at Hunstanton.

Further Details:

Major supermkts deliver & plenty of shops about in Wells and late night store in Wells & Blakeney. There is plenty to see & do all year round on this remote part of the North Norfolk coast ideal for 'getting away from it all'. The Red Lion is the 16 century freehouse Stiffkey village pub is a charming Norfolk hostelry with its inglenook fireplace, beams & red pamment floor, serves good pub food & a selection of real ales. This is child & dog friendly.

There are lots of places to eat & drink to suit all budgets. From high end dining at Morston Hall, Blakeney Hotel, The Crown Hotel Wells, The Host Arms Burnham Mrkt. The King's Head Leatheringsett, The Honeybell Hunworth to fish & chips on Wells Quay. There are lots of tea rooms and pubs in the area.

There are lots of public footpaths in the area as well as the coast path. The coastal hopper runs a frequent service so you can walk a long way then get the bus back.

Why stay in a cramped B&B when you can rent a spacious cottage with a sea view and garden.
