Nestling in the peaceful countryside of the south west of France, Le Camelot is an old farmhouse built of local stone and part occupied by the English owners (along with their two very friendly dogs and inquisitive cat). It has all the facilities required for modern day living and comfort on two levels, (open plan kitchen lounge diner on the ground floor and three bedrooms and shower room on the upper floor)and lies some seven kilometres equidistant from the nearest towns of Duras and Monsegur.

About the Owner

I was a college lecturer and my wife a hospital ward nursing assistant in the U.K. We retired together and moved over permanently to our holiday farmhouse in France with our pet dogs and cat in 2004.

Since then we have spent much time and effort renovating the farmhouse and barns.

In 2010 we decided to rent out part of the farmhouse as a holiday gite with private pool and this has proved to be very popular.

We stayed here for 2 weeks and had a really great time. The gite was a really high standard and the swimming pool area was excellent

We've been visiting this part of France for over 10 years and this is the most beautifully presented gite we have stayed in, we will be telling everyone how wonderful it is in the UK. We had a fantastic time, everything needed was provided, and Reg & Sue were great hosts.



Le Camelot has been renovated to a beautifully high standard, everything well presented down to the smallest detail. Our rooms were extremely comfortable and exceeded all of our expectations. Duras is only a short drive away and will offer everything you need from shopping to a few drinks and a nice meal.

Le Camelot provided us with such a peaceful and relaxing holiday we did not want to leave after our 2 weeks away from home. Thank you again Sue and Reg and hope to see you again soon.

Great 2 weeks at Le Camelot

We had a lovely two weeks staying at Le Camelot, a well cared for, clean and comfortable gite with wonderful views over the surrounding country side. The gite was fully equipped with large outdoor space for bbq's, enjoying the sunsets over the fields, and plenty of space for the kids to run around too. The swimming pool was lovely & secluded - catching the sun all day. All in all a great place to relax! Local town Duras was lively & has a great weekly Monday market and a fab Thursday evening food market with tables & chairs set up in the market so you can buy your food & wine and enjoy the atmosphere - definitely worth going too. Luckily for us, there was a wine faire at the chateau during our stay - a chance to sample lots of wine from the many surrounding vineyards & of course a few purchases!

Lovely rural Gite ob 5 minutes drive from Duras

We are a family of four and spent a week at Le Camelot - its a lovely rural location, with views over the orchards and rolling farmland. Reg and Sue are excellent hosts and made us most welcome - the welcome food pack was most thoughtful - they have put a lot of thought into the Gite and it has everything one could hope for; it was also sparkling clean throughout. The gardens, pool and terrace are lovely and very private. I'd happily recommend this Gite for a family stay.

We first visited this lovely part of France in 1998 for a holiday and bought the farmhouse on the spur of the moment as a holiday retreat for ourselves. We came over from the U.K. a couple of times a year to enjoy the peace and tranquility (and the wine) and the wide open spaces with wonderful views.

Nearest Airport : Bergerac at 54 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : Duras or Monsegur at 7 Kilometres Nearest Ferry : St Malo at 590 Kilometres Nearest Golf : Golf de Vigiers at 27 Kilometres Nearest Train : Marmande at 30 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : E72 at 30 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : Duras or Monsegur at 7 Kilometres Nearest Beach : Arcachon at 145 Kilometres Car: necessary

Coast/Beach:

The nearest coastal beach is Arcachon, approx 145km away. Well worth a visit especially the view from the top of the 'dune de pyla' (the largest sand dune in Europe.

Other inland beaches are found at the various leisure lakes within easy reach by car.

Travel:

A car is essential to get around here as there is no public transport and we are in a very rural location.

The nearest airports are Bergerac and Bordeaux approx 45 mins and 75 mins drive away respectively. Budget airlines operate schedules from various U.K. locations to these airports where car hire is available.Rail travel from London is via Lille to Libourne or Bordeaux and on to Marmande.

St Malo is the nearest channel ferry port some 590 km away and the journey is mainly by autoroute.

Distances:

Camelot is a small hamlet approx 7Km from the nearest towns of Duras and Monsegur.

The departmental capital of the Lot et Garonne, Agen, famous for its wonderful prunes is approx 45 mins drive away.

The monastic town of La Reole is some 25 mins drive and the village of Saint Ferme only 8Km away.

Bordeaux and Saint Emilion, both well known for their fine wines, are only approx one hour drive away.

Further Details:

Both Duras and Monsegur are bastide towns with local supermarket, small shops, banks, restaurants and cafes Both also hold thriving weekly local produce markets,and during the summer months various festive events take place.

To book through 'Owners Direct' follow their booking and payment system on the website.
To book 'Le Camelot' directly with the owners, please request a booking form. A non-refundable deposit of 25% is required with the completed booking form to secure the booking. The balance must be paid 6 weeks before the start of the booked period along with a £200 security/breakages deposit (refunded after the holiday subject to satisfactory inspection of accommodation and equipments). Receipts will be issued when monies are received and a confirmation letter will be sent with the details provided on the booking form by you.

Changeover Day:
Change over day is Saturday, this may be flexible during off peak periods by arrangement.
Arrival must be after 4pm (16:00hrs) and departure by 10am (10:00hrs)

  • Outside: Outside there is a paved patio area with large table & chairs, curtained gazebo and BBQ, a grassed play area with swings and climbing ropes, and a private 10m x 5m pool with sun loungers and sun shades (under-water and above ground lighting around the pool area is available on request). There is also changing/toilet facilities at the pool. Utility Room: An automatic washing machine is provided in the understairs cloakroom. A drying rack and electric iron are provided in the large storage cupboard as is a vacuum cleaner, first aid kit etc. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All bed linen and towels (one bath, one hand and one pool towel per person) are included and changed on a weekly basis. Other: At the pool area there is a changing room with wc and wash basin.
