About the Owner

We all moved to France Bernadette Ian son Ollie and dog Tara in 2005 after having stayed with friends near here for a holiday to explore the area, we decided immediately it was the place for us, for me the beaches and for Ian & Ollie the mountains.

We rented for a year to see if we liked the area, then bought the farmhouse with a huge barn to renovate. It was hard work but worth the end result.

All had a great stay. Dont want to go home. House & place lovely & Bernadette Ian & Oliver really accomodating. We will all miss Tara. Thanks for a brilliant holiday.

Yet again another fantastic holiday in France. We all loved the gite and all that is on offer. The children loved the lakes nearby and having our own river to swim in was delightful. We agree 2 weeks only just touches whats on offer, we obviously have to come back again.

St Jean pied de Port took less than half an hour to get to and is a true gem of this region. A must. La Belle Auberge at Castegnede serves fantastic food and the staff are really friendly. St jean de Luz & Biarritz are great for spending a day at the beach and shops are great. Sauveterre de Bearn has alovely tea garden on the river. The children can paddle in the river whilst you enjoy the views. Salies de Bearn is very pretty with lots of interesting narrow roads to explore with lovely squares to sit in. Thanks for a great holiday.

Great base for exploring

  • 4 of 5

Well equipped property with very helpful owners on site. Goats chickens and private river beach really add to the experience!

Good position for exploring San Sebastián (1 HR), Biarritz (45 mins), Pau (45 mins) and the wonderful mountains.

Only spoilt by changeable weather at this time of year as not far enough south to guarantee sunshine - but plenty to do in the area to compensate.

Fantastic Place

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely place to stay very clean and the hosts Bernadette and Ian are very welcoming. It is the type of holiday were you can relax if you want or explore South West France. You can go to the Beach, the mountains, shopping or Spain in under an hour. If you want to stay local there are restaurants near by and nice walks. The children loved being able to feed the goats.

Superb location

  • 4 of 5

Extremely well appointed property with a lovely terrace giving wonderful views over the countryside. Bernadette and Ian (the owners) couldn't have been nicer or more helpful.

The river is quite possible the most beautiful I have ever seen - it certainly was the cleanest. Would highly recommend the Fontaines Fleuries restaurant in nearby Salies.

All in al it was a wonderful holiday and opened our eyes to the beauty of the region

Very enjoyable stay. It was exactly what we wanted - peaceful but easy access to restaurants, bars and the mountains. Great welcome from our kind and helpful hosts. The river and grounds were a bonus with lovely views from the terrace.

Relaxing time, lovely location

  • 5 of 5

We spent a lovely family fortnight here. late July to mid August. It was absolutely perfect for the children. They loved collecting the duck and chicken eggs every morning, feeding the goats, bouncing on the trampoline, swimming in the river and the swimming pool and running around on the ample grass space. The farmhouse itself was beautiful and had everything we could possibly need. It is situated at the end of a quiet lane and feels very secluded and private. There were plenty of books, games, toys, dvds and anything that we didn't have, we just had to ask. Bernadette and Ian are very accommodating and friendly. The area around the farmhouse is very beautiful and there are lots of towns and villages close by to explore. It is not too far for a day out at the coast but with the river and the pool there is no urgency to rush to the beach. Overall it offered more than we were expecting and we had a fantastic time.

Our summer Holiday

  • 5 of 5

This place is beautiful, stunning location, easy to travel to. Perfect rural getaway, private river for swimming, fishing, rafting etc. On its own mini-farm setting with various animals. The owners were incredible went all out to please us, food service available was spot on, place was very clean and well kept, also gorgeous food from restaurants nearby and very reasonable prices. lots of beautiful places to visit if you feel like driving half an hour or so, the beaches around this place are remarkable, Spain is just a short drive away where you will be able to get all your duty free goods to make your holiday even more enjoyable and cheap. I have nothing negative to say about this beautiful house and its surroundings which is why I have visited 3 times and will be going back very shortly .

From the Owner

From the Owner

It has to be the river, Oliie and I look forward to our first swim of the year, its a competition to see who is first in the water as it can be a bit chilly in April, but Oh so refreshing in the summer months. We have had amazing beach parties with friends lasting into the night, with bbques and camp fires. We have also bought a dinghy boat to go on the river, we can go from home down the river for an amazing adventure seeing lots of wildlife on the way, and a few rapids, we get some funny looks from the French when they see Tara at the front of the boat. We also love having the goats, they are very friendly especially Flop who Ian hand raised as her mother abandoned her, he fed her with a teat on an old beer bottle, she still thinks he is her mum. Also having fresh eggs
