Apartment in El Campello, Costa Blanca North, Spain - Peaceful Location, But Only 10 Minutes Walk To Main Beach, Esplanade With Cafes, Restaurants, Shops

25 minutes drive north of Alicante airport is the fishing village of El Campello. Our apartment is on the very outskirts of this village -just past an ancient watchtower and an archaeological dig - in an established residential area with the sea in front and villas and mountains behind. It is a secure, gated community with a large shared pool and lovely gardens full of trees and flowers looked after by our gardener Vicente. The architecture is Moorish - white walls, red tiled roofs, and the apartments are designed so that we all have views onto the gardens but do not overlook each other. The buildings are only 3 stories high and are long established; there is a cafe/restaurant outside the main gate.

About the Owner

In the seventies, as a graduate of Spanish, I came to live and work in Murcia town and then in Alicante town. I moved away in the late seventies but returned over the years to visit friends. Finally I had the opportunity to buy somewhere in this area that I love, and I scoured property with an old friend looking for somewhere that met my criteria:

1. Must have sea views

2. Must be easy to get around ( car not essential)

3. Must be near beach

4. Must be quiet ( a challenge in Spain!)

5. Must have good views from front and back

6. Must have good size swimming pool for kids and for adults

7. Must be near shops/bars/restaurants

8. Must be predominantly Spanish (not feel Brits have taken over!)

9. Must not feel cold, empty, unwelcoming

Success! - and bonus! a lovely garden.

Excellent stay

We chose this apartment as our friends have similar one on the same complex and wanted to visit when the Moors and Christians fiesta was on . We were very pleased with the 10 days that we spent here and found the apartment well kept , clean and comfortable . We did sneak round to our friends after a busy day to watch some British Television now and again but also watched some of the DVDs provided Wendy was easy to contact and very reliable and we hope to return before too long.

Apartment in El Capello near Alicante

Enjoyed our 10 days in this apartment built on two levels which made it feel spacious. It was clean, attractive furnishings and with good facilities We were visiting friends on the same well kept and quiet complex with pool so it was very convenient (especially as they had a car !)

We even managed to catch up on some UK TV programs now and again at our friends which we appreciated after a long day out ! .This particular facility wasn't available on the TV where we were staying which we would have liked but there were books and DVDs to watch along with other programs. We were pleased with the reliable wifi

Enjoyable stay

We spent 2 weeks in the apartment during August. As in previous reviews the apartment is clean and cosy. It was very hot during our stay but opening the front and balcony door created a cool breeze. Everything you need is within walking distance including the tram stop. The pool was lovely not particularly busy either. The residents have a fiesta once a year which happened to clash with our stay, it ended at 4am and the music was extremely loud. Overall, a great location. John and Yvonne are happy to help with any questions. Would recommend a visit.

Our experience was exceptional. From the moment we arrived at the airport with the organised lift by the owner to the villa.

The apartment has everything you need , in a lovely gated area with a big pool ( lifeguard in attendance ) Home from home. El Campello is in itself a perfect destination lots to do , shops, restaurant and wonderful beaches. The tram which is very very cheap and a stones throw from the apartment lets you explore local villages and town without the need of hiring a car.

Perfect retreat

We recently enjoyed a very relaxing holiday at this wonderful apartment which was spread over 2 floors. Both the lounge and the master bedroom had balconies which enjoyed full sun from early morning until mid afternoon. The balconies overlooked a well cared for garden and an excellent pool which had a full time life guard. The upper balcony also had sea view. The people in other apartments were very respectful of noise and made sure they were not disturbing nearby apartments. The apartment itself was clean and extremely well equipped with things extras like mosquito balls/,UK/Spanish adaptors, hair dryer as well as things like loo rolls/ washing up liquid/ shower+ loo cleaners. This is ideal for couples and families alike.

The owner of the apartment was extremely well organised and helpful, even arranging for someone to collect us from the airport and show us around the apartment when we arrived and returning us to the airport at the end of our excellent holiday.

Nearby was a wonderful restaurant( Le Cova) which overlooked the marina/harbour. The food was excellent and offered an all day " 3 course meal of the day" for 18eu which included half bottle of wine and water per person. There was an excellent choice for each course which changed each day and the staff couldn't be more friendly and helpful, consequently we ate out there most days.

The tram station was a 5 minute walk from the apartment which meant you could travel down the coast to Alicante or up to Benidorm ( and beyond) in air conditioned comfort very cheaply( 1.60 eu) to Alicante.

There are some beautiful safe beaches in El Campello which can be reached easily on foot. Wendy thoughtfully also provided beach chairs etc, alternatively loungers/ umbrellas could be hired at a reasonable cost and there are plenty of seats along the promenade if you wanted to stop for short rests.

In all an excellent apartment in a lovely complex which was in an excellent location for our needs, somewhere we would certainly return to if we were to visit that area again.

Fantastic relaxing holiday.

We didn't hire a car, it was so nice to be met by John and Yvonne at the airport, such a lovely couple and very helpful.

We arrived to find every thing was perfect, so clean and tidy. There was plenty of water and milk there, nice little touches that mean so much after a day's travel. We found the accommodation perfectly adequate for our stay it felt like home from home, very cosy. A short walk and there is a selection of shops and lovely restaurants. We used the tram as Wendy advised and travelled to Benidorm and then on another occasion went along to San Juan beach, fantastic beach.

Excellent customer service thank you Wendy, so helpful.

We can't wait to come back. Four stars from us as we enjoyed our hols so much. Loved the little beach across the road bliss. We found Wendy has really thought of every thing, even down to beach chairs and buckets spades etc.

Location

From the Owner

El Campello is still predominantly a holiday place for Spaniards, and also a town where people live all year round. It used to be a small fishing village and although it has grown, the port is still a working fishing port. If you snorkel off the rocks you will see fish everywhere, look out for the green wrasse. The weather is dry, sunny and warm most of the year. El Campello beach is sandy and long with an uninterrupted promenade. This means that cafes and restaurants and shops line the beach and provide a social area for day and evening. You can walk or cycle all along the beach and into the next and the next - kilometres of sandy safe beaches. A modern tram runs from Alicante town to Denia along the coast stopping at villages along the way, making it easy and economical to get around and visit other areas.

Coast/Beach:

In front of the apartment is a walkway down to a small cove, with sheltered beach. A ten minute stroll away is the main beach of El Campello, long, sandy, with palapas ( sun shades), recreational games ( e.g. volleyball), showers and life guards. A five minute walk to the tram and a 10 minute ride will take you to more beaches - Muchavista, or San Juan - kilometres of very deep sandy beaches, all regularly cleaned. The sea is very safe.

Travel:

Alicante airport is 25 minutes drive away. You can also arrive by public transport, using the airport bus to Alicante and then the tram to the tram station only two blocks away from the flat. (very cheap, if you have time). If you prefer, we can organise airport transfer for you for an extra fee ( please ask). Car is not essential, but if you do have a car, then we have secure gated car parking within the complex.

El Campello 0.5 km. Alicante 15 km, Alicante Airport 20km. Benidorm 20 km

Further Details:

In 10 minutes, walking slowly, you can leave the apartment, walk along the cliff past the archaeological dig, into the Marina, check out the yachts, visit the fish market if it is daytime, and then onto the Paseo del Maritimo, which is almost 2 miles long and makes for a lovely day or evening stroll along the beach. A wide selection of cafes, ice cream bars, restaurants and shops face the sea, so you can linger, or sit and watch the boats, or the people passing by. In summer months, this is bustling with life every evening; out of season it is quieter, but always it is sunny, warm and pleasant.

Supermarkets, banks and shops of all kinds are located on the road running parallel to the Paseo Maritimo.

Alicante, a tram ride away ( or bus ride) has an even bigger Paseo Maritimo - the Esplanada - and bigger Marina. It is a bustling modern Spanish city with interesting modern shops and an interesting past - a castle, and an old town full of cobbled streets and bars and galleries. And the newer town has some very "cool" bars for the younger generation.

Come during the fiestas of San Juan in June, when you will see huge political effigies made of paper mache, a week of processions and bands, and then the burning of the effigies at midnight onwards - followed by a week of fireworks by the beach. Or come in July to see the Moors and Christians processions; or even more haunting, in Easter, to see the hooded 'penitentes' carrying the Virgin statue up through the narrow cobbled streets to the church high up in the Old Town overlooking the bay.

Fiestas are a big part of Spain. Campello has theirs in October. The tourist information office in Campello can give you dates and tell you what is happening where.

North of El Campello, you can visit fantastic water parks and theme parks in Benidorm, or small picturesque villages such as El Altea or Villajoyosa.

Head inland and visit the Font Roja National Park for breathtaking views, Mediterranean plants and varied wildlife, or El Montgo Nature Reserve, with walking trails and caves.

The complex is well established with lovely garden and pool. It is just around the bay from the main beach in a residential area which means it is quiet, but only a short walk away from all amenities that you need. There is a small beach just in front of the apartment, should you not want to walk the 10 minutes to the main beach. This is our home from home, so we have most things you need for the beach, for everyday shopping, for leisure, for sightseeing, or just chilling. The design of the bungalows is classic Moorish architecture with white walls and red tiled roofs. We have filled it with artefacts from Mexico and local Spanish artists.

Notes:

  • Archaeological dig on rocks to right of beach. Good snorkelling off rocks - watch out for green wrasse. Alicante town has old town and castle. Other historic sights in the area to the north. At home: Table and chairs on both terraces - upstairs and downstairs. Loungers and chairs to take to the beach. We take towels to garden ( as it is lawned) or chairs. The shared pool is large and is probably around 4' at the shallow end, and over 6' at the deep end. There is a separate children's pool. It is not heated, but is available all year around. However it is usually only warm enough from May onwards, although it can be used up to December ( depending on the weather). There are showers, and a lifeguard in summer months. The gardens are lawned around the pool and there are palapas for shade and many trees that also offer shade. In summer it is also filled with flowers, bougainvillea and jasmine. There is also a patio area with fountain, and benches. At the back of the apartments there is parking available. The complex is gated and entrance and exits are through remote controlled gates (for cars). Utility Room: Washing machine (new in 2014). Boiler.
