A beautiful Pembrokeshire Cottage With Secluded Garden In coastal Village

Bedrooms 2
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

Cottage in Moylegrove, Pembrokeshire, Wales - The Peaceful Surroundings Make It Perfect For Walking; Sandy Beaches Within 5 Miles

A stone cottage dating from the nineteenth century but fully refurbished recently. We have used contemporary and antique furniture to create a relaxing seaside home. We also collect local paintings and crafts in the cottage. There is a lovely, secluded garden with new patio area and garden furniture. It is particularly beautiful in Spring. There are sea and countryside views and a flat area for games. It is in a quiet but friendly village and a 15 minute walk takes you to the coastal path and Ceibwr Bay. The Poppit Rocket (local coastal bus service) passes through the village enabling longer "car-free" walks. There are sandy beaches within 5 miles and also a golf course. Coasteering and kayaking are available locally. There are excellent pubs and restaurants in Newport and St Dogmaels as well as a coffee shop in the village. Visitors are welcome to attend village events in the refurbished school building and we enjoy concerts at Rhos-y-Gilwen and the Mwlden Theatre, Cardigan. Unfortunately the cottage and garden are not suitable for dogs.

About Martyn and Helene Hewett

We have lived and worked in the Cotswolds for 25 years, and have four children.

Martyn and Helene Hewett purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Martyn and Helene Hewett chose Fishguard, Newport, The Preseli Hills & Bluestone

We first discovered Pembrokeshire in 1995, and found it the ideal place to come on holiday with young children - as beautiful as Cornwall, but without the traffic! The peaceful and atmospheric area offers much, whether kayaking, exploring the coast path or finding a nice beach!

We also enjoy the art exhibitions, music festivals such as the Fishguard Music and Jazz Festivals, and craft workshops - often returning with another gift for the cottage!

We discovered Fountain Fach in 2007 and have lovingly restored it over the years. Last year it was redecorated and a new patio laid in the secluded, sunny garden. Our children now return with us, and with friends who love to explore and relax by the sea. Climbing Carn Ingli above Newport on Easter Sunday is a wonderful experience not to be misse

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage is spacious for four people -we have created a large kitchen with space to sit by the woodburner which makes it very sociable. The sitting room is very cosy with lots of books and games to choose from and another woodburner in the large inglenook - so plenty of options to pursue different activities.

Moylegrove is a friendly village with many events now running in the restored school room and guests are very welcome to join in. However it also has wonderful walks from the door - and the Poppit Rocket bus means that you can walk the coast path to Newport or Poppit and get the bus home.

There is an excellent range of restaurants and pubs nearby to choose from, as well as fresh local produce at the farmer's markets and independent shops locally.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"What a delightful cottage, beautifully equipped (I particularly like the en-suite bathroom and tasteful artworks) with sumptuous curtains and blinds. The garden is glorious, too." Cathy & John, August 2012

“A beautiful cottage in a peaceful and pretty village. It is in the best location for access to idyllic beaches, restaurants and shops. The facilities in the cottage are excellent and had everything we needed for a family of four...The gardens are well kept and perfect for outdoor eating and for the children to play. We will definitely be back.” Matthew and family, August 2013

“The cottage is so well appointed especially the kitchen, stocked with everything you need. The place is warm and welcoming, a home from home and we love it.” Justine and family, July 2013

A delightful cottage in a lovely setting

  • 5 of 5

Fountain Fach is a delightful cottage in the pretty village of Moylegrove. It came up to and well beyond our expectations being cosy (woodburners, lots of logs, plus storage heaters) quirky (low ceilings, thick stone walls) and practical with all mod cons (dishwasher, modern TV, washing machine, dryer, only thing missing was a hairdryer so just take your own). The owners were extremely helpful and the cottage is obviously well loved and well looked after. We haven't had too many cottage holidays but this was the cleanest and the nicest place we have stayed in to date. I would most certainly recommend the property and the area which is brilliant for walking and although the village feels remote it is only a few miles to Cardigan which is a delightful town.

peaceful surroundings

  • 4 of 5

This cottage is beautifully equipped for the most demanding walker/holiday maker. A cosy Kitchen/Diner leads into an even cosier living area. Both Bedrooms are spacious, comfortable beds, lovely big bath, great shower. I was impressed by the existence of a flask as well as binoculars. Because it is in quite a remote area, you are able to only hear bird song and during the walks the many murmurs and gurgles of water. At night, the stars are plentiful and the view unmarred by lights. I arrived by train and was a bit shocked by the taxi expense but it was all worth it as the area is stunning and the walks plentiful. Not having a car, I'd pre-arranged a food delivery from a nearby supermarket and found myself not wanting for anything. I will recommend this lovely cottage to my friends and hope I get the opportunity soon to re-visit.
