Farmhouse in Castelnaud la Chapelle, Nr. Sarlat, Dordogne, Aquitaine, France - Converted Farmhouse With Private Pool And Extensive Patio Sleeps 2 - 9 (4 Bedrooms)

Completed in early 2014, Lablancou is a converted farmhouse with tranquil views over open countryside. Accommodation includes a large open plan living and dining area, fully equipped kitchen and a large patio with two dining areas, barbeque and views of the walnut groves and open countryside. Large solar heated private pool with sun-loungers (pool cleaned daily). Pool house with shaded outside space and small table and chairs; ideal for sipping a glass of wine and watching the pool. Large porch with table and chairs and views across the walnut groves. One king size bedroom, one double, one twin one triple room, all en-suite. Downstairs cloakroom. Lablancou retains many original features but is fully modernised for comfort. Wide screen TV with English channels and DVD player. Wood burning stoves and full central heating. A welcome pack comprising a bottle of local Rose wine, fresh milk, a bottle of our organic walnut oil, eggs and seasonal fruit and vegetables from our organic garden. Kitchen essentials such as salt, pepper, olive oil, fresh and dried herbs, tea, sugar and instant coffee are also provided. Washing tabs and dishwasher tablets also included. Pool towels provided. In order to retain the homely feel of Lablancou a range of our favourite recipe books is provided in the kitchen and the kitchen is fully equipped for cooks. A selection of paperback books is also provided as are board games, playing cards and dominoes. A set of boules, skittles and quoits are available for playing on the lawn or the gravel parking area. The owners speak English and French and move into another property on the farm for the summer. Full privacy is afforded guests, however the owners are available to help out with recommendations of what to see and do, restaurants to visit and to make bookings for tourist attractions if required. Lablancou is in the commune of Castelnaud, with its appellation of 'one of the most beautiful villages in France'. As well as a majestic chateau, view of Beynac chateau and village across the river, canoeing and bicycle hire it also has a superb patisserie, butcher, general store and several restaurants. All of the major tourist attractions of the Perigord Noir are within a 30-40 minute drive of Lablancou with several including Castelnaud, Beynac, Domme, Marquessac considerably less than that. Our previous guests have enjoyed watching the hot air balloons that often fly over Lablancou and sometimes land nearby. We provide binoculars for watching the wildlife and hare, deer, buzzards and woodpeckers, amongst many others, are often to be seen.

About Graham OTWAY

Since leaving the UK in 2006 I have been renovating the farmhouse at Lablancou and have also learned to farm walnuts. The last 3 years have been spent turning the farm organic and the 2013 crop was the first to be sold with an organic status.

Why Graham OTWAY chose Perigord Noir

We found the Dordogne was a perfect location with its hot summers and crisp clear winters and we love the contrast between seasons. We wanted a property that was close to the interesting things to see and do in the area and also fulfilled our dream of growing organic food; Lablancou fitted the bill perfectly. It is close to all the amenities, charming villages and chateaux yet remains a tranquil hideaway. On a clear night the view of the stars is breathtaking and we never tire of gazing at the Milky Way and shooting stars when they are around.

The biggest light pollution here is the moon and we provide a telescope for those interested in viewing the stunning night sky.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Having all of the great tourist attractions of the Perigord Noir within a few minutes drive means that there are lots of interesting things to see and do. At the same time Lablancou offers a haven of tranquillity and is the perfect location to relax and enjoy the countryside. There is plenty of space for children to run around and only the occasional car or tractor that passes by.

There are fabulous food and craft markets in a different local town or village each day and they are perfect for wandering around and appreciating French culture and lifestyle.

Outside: Private swimming pool, 8m x 4m, for the exclusive use of guests. Pool house with fridge for chilling drinks. There are two separate dining areas and a barbeque. Guests can enjoy eating and drinking by the pool. Large gravelled private parking area. Lablancou nestles on a 12 acre walnut grove with mixed woodland and rural views beyond. There is very little road traffic; generally neighbours passing only, sometimes by tractor! On a clear night there is no light pollution and the view of the stars is breathtaking. A telescope is available on request to view the night sky. Utility Room: Downstairs cloakroom with large storage cupboard containing ironing board, iron and clothes airer. A selection of board games is available for guests to use. Towels / Linen / All linen and towels are provided including pool towels. If the holiday is for more than a week, fresh towels and linen are available upon request. Other: The 300m patio area contains a large dining table with seating for 8 and a sun parasol, a private pool with sun loungers and a further dining area to seat 6 with sun parasol. The farm is organic and seasonal fruit and vegetables and eggs are available.

Exceeded our expectations

Having read the previous reviews, our expectations were high when we arrived at this lovely gite. We were a party of six adults and were all delighted with the cottage itself and it's beautiful setting. There was everything to make our stay a pleasure and Graham and Adele are perfect hosts.

We enjoyed walnuts and figs from the orchard, swimming and lazing around the pool and patio, BBQ and having very good wifi. An easy hours drive from Bergerac airport, the cottage is very close to many fabulous castles, gardens, towns and the Dordogne. I highly recommend Lablancou.

Fantastic villa in a fantastic location

We had a fantastic 2 week stay at Lablancou (our second stay here). The house is immaculate and so well equipped, everything is thought of. Graham and Adele are such lovely hosts and made us feel welcome as soon as we arrived. It is so peaceful and we spent most days relaxing by the pool (cleaned every morning) and evenings B-B-Q'ing in the lovely garden.

We have been booking villas through Owners Direct for several years, and Lablancou is by far the best. We will be returning.

Lablancou a great place to relax

Graham and Adele were perfect hosts..The house was extremely clean and tidy and had everything we needed for our holiday.The pool and outside area were perfect for relaxing,the bbq was big enough to cook for 9 people,. Wifi in the house and by the pool was very popular with the family.we couldn't have asked for more from our holiday.We would love to go back.

Perfect!

Everything was perfect.

The Dordogne region is obviously fantastic and Graham & Adele's home is brilliantly situated while at the same time managing to be fabulously quiet and feel wonderfully remote.

The house and garden are immaculate, with everything we needed. There was 8 of us staying (4 adults & 4 boys) and it was plenty big enough.

The pool was lovely and kept the kids entertained all week. The location is beautiful and perfect for enjoying the magnificent night sky.

Graham and Adele were perfect hosts, and were always available to provide help and advice if required.

Can't recommend it highly enough and hope to return one day!

Lablancou, an idyllic setting for your holiday

We spent 2 weeks in July 2017 on holiday at Lablancou with our grandchildren

We loved it and so did they, from the 1st day when we arrived at the gite, to our last one when we had to almost be dragged away!

The property, its grounds, facilities exceeded expectations and our hosts Graham and Adele were perfect, always willing to help & advise, but never imposing on our time

Everything was spotlessly clean with everything you could possibly need

We mixed our time between relaxing by the lovely pool, to visiting the multitude of local attractions such as Domme, Castlenaud Chateau, Beynac, Sarlat and the lovely Roque Gageac, so many things to do and all so close

Kayaking down the river was wonderful, as was visiting the many excellent food markets on sunny evenings, really good fun and so relaxed

As we barbecued on an evening and watched the hot air balloons pass by we soon realised how lucky we were to be at Lablancou

And don't miss the amazing patisserie down in Castlenaud, the almond croissants are to die for

Everything at Lablancou is highly recommended by us and we will definitely be back

a haven of tranquility

this property was everything we hoped for, a lovely well maintained and equipped house and pool in a beautiful and peaceful location. within in ten minutes you could be in a number of small villages and towns and within 20 minutes a bustling town like Sarlat. Lots of chateaux and other attractions very close by so you didn't spend hours in the car. the immediate area was also super for walks and bike rides. In fact so perfect we booked again for next year straight away.

Distances:

The medieval market towns of Sarlat and Domme are 20 minutes drive. The nearest villages are Castelnaud-la-Chapelle and St Cybranet, each less than 10 minutes drive.

Facilities at Castelnaud include a magnificent Patisserie, a good quality butchers, a general store, a post office with cashpoint machine, a hairdressers and a café bar and a restaurant. There are further restaurants and coffee shops within the medieval village. St Cybranet has a garage and an organic food shop.
