Lovely period house with great sea views

  • 5 of 5

The house is conveniently located close to the harbour, through steep streets and steps, and shops and restaurants are also very easily accessible on foot. The house is very confortable, nicely decorated and the views over the sea and Ilfracombe coast line from both lounges and from the master bedroom are fantastic. We appreciated both the gaz and the log fire, and also the fact that the kitchen is well equipped for cooking. We were welcome with a bottle of fizzy wine and a nice postcard of Ilfracombe painted by the owner. It was spacious enough for all of us, being a family of ten with children and elderly, and we had a great week. Thank you!

Great spacious house well equipped.

  • 4 of 5

Great spacious house well equipped clean and maintained. The owners are easy going and the check in at out was painless. Close to the town centre and good views. The only thing that was lacking was a good bbq/fire area (being South African and wanting to braai) otherwise a fantastic house all in all.

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed your stay, thank you for your review.! The sea views are a particular feature of the house, remarked on by everyone who visits. There is a charcoal firepit/BBQ in the garden. Your comment has prompted us to consider the idea of a gas BBQ for the future. So glad your wedding went according to plan, congratulations and all the best for the future!

Large, clean, well equipped house

  • 4 of 5

A very comfortable house for our 3 families to stay together (with children ranging from 3 months to 15 years). The property was very clean and tidy on arrival and we all had a lovely week in Devon. Beautiful view of the sunsets.

The only improvement would be blinds at all sides of the windows in the upstairs rooms, as the light coming in led to some early mornings.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay at The Georgian House and that everything was in order on your arrival. We have taken on board your comments concerning the window covering in the upstairs rooms and will take these into consideration when refurbishing later this year.

Beautiful house with amazing views

  • 5 of 5

We'd like to thank Christine and Paul for an amazing week's stay in June. We were 10 guests visiting Ilfracombe for our wedding at Tunnels Beaches, so the house was to be used for bridal prep in the lead up to the big day.

From the get go - we booked quite a few months in advance - Christine couldn't do enough for us. I had a great feeling about it immediately, I was almost scared it was too good to be true! Chris was prompt with responses, extremely helpful and even offered recommendations for local restaurants.

When we arrived, the house was everything we hoped and much, much more. It's extremely well equipped - my (new) husband who loves cooking was very impressed with the level of kitchen equipment and assortment of glassware!

My bridesmaids and their partners all loved the rooms, and the house and it's stunning views made for some great photos in the build up to the day.

To top it off, Chris and Paul left us a card when we arrived, beautiful flowers and some bubbly which was a really generous touch and got the week off to a great start.

The house is in a great location, only a 10 min walk to the harbour via some paths (albeit steep) with stunning views. The welcome booklet with information on the local area was also really useful.

For a house with 10 people in it we didn't feel on top of each other. There was plenty of storage, parking and the management of keys was made really easy by the use of an external safe.

We're already talking about returning there for anniversary celebrations, and recommend it for anyone looking for a peaceful yet stunning bolthole within easy reach of Ilfracombe and the surrounding area.

A beautiful town house in Ilfracombe

  • 5 of 5

A perfect house for our wedding party, very clean, well equipped and within a short walk of restaurants, pubs and The Tunnel's Beaches. A delicious cake was awaiting us in the kitchen, most welcome after a long journey. Nice touch. Christine was very helpful and enjoyed the company of our 'Royal guest'! Highly recommended.

Owner's Response: We are delighted to have another positive review from guests attending a wedding at The Tunnels Beaches. A cardboard cut out of The Queen placed in the front window of the house by our guests resulted in many questioning glances and great hilarity amongst our neighbours on the terrace! Great fun!

Home from home

  • 5 of 5

We booked The Georgian House for a 60th birthday week with a party of 8 adults and 2 children (2 yrs and a 4 month old).

The house is fantastic. Extremely spacious and well equipped and a very short walk to all local attractions. Despite having some mixed weather, we had a lovely stay and really enjoyed relaxing and cooking at the house.

Most rooms have a spectacular view and the upstairs lounge was really special.

The hosts were so helpful and we loved the paintings around the house, some of which are available to buy.

Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a group house in North Devon.

Owner's Response: We are so glad that we have another group of delighted guests., We try hard to make The Georgian House something special whilst retaining a comfortable atmosphere. Paul is an artist and enjoys painting and drawing local scenes. In the past we have had requests to purchase some of his work and so we now make this possible.

Location

From the Owner

We love Ilfracombe and we always have. We have worked in the community for years and think it has so much to offer. As far as the house is concerned it was the views which sold it to us. Waking up and looking out across the Bristol Channel never disappoints - the view changes every day. When we had a family the big house was great and now grandchildren are on the horizon it will come into its own again!

Further Details:

Ilfracombe has something for everyone and a week’s stay has photo opportunities around every corner.

Take a trip down to the harbour to see Damien Hirst's 'Verity' and while away an hour to people watch in one of the cafes or wine bars on the Quay. For the children there is a sandy beach at low tide, the aquarium, or crabbing off the pier, and of course the penny arcades are always a bit of a holiday treat! A pony trap or the land train can be a fun way to see the sights. Check out what's on at The Landmark Theatre, the cinema, or one of the many pubs which offer live entertainment. The Tourist Information office at The Landmark and the 'Visit Ilfracombe' website will provide more information on all festivals and events. Fore Street is renowned for its choice and variety of restaurants and there are many other eateries dotted around the town. Ilfracombe is a creative centre. A large number of artists live and work in or around the town. As well as art galleries on the High Street, seafront and around the harbour their work is exhibited at festivals and events during the summer season. A great souvenir to take back from your holiday. For more active pursuits why not try your hand at surfing, pony trekking, quad biking, coasteering, or simply walk the coastal path and drink in the beautiful scenery around the North Devon coastline. For those wishing to venture further afield a trip to Lynton and Lynmouth will not disappoint. Known in Victorian times as the English Alps the Lyn Valley offers excellent walking and is the gateway to The Exmoor National Park. No visit to the seaside would be complete without a boat trip. You can pick up cruises of varying lengths from the harbour or for the more adventurous a day trip to Lundy Island aboard the Oldenburg comes highly recommended.

What next? Maybe a day at Combe Martin Wildlfe Park, or Exmoor Zoo or The Milky Way, or Watermouth Castle, or The Big Sheep, or Tarka Tennis. Maybe a week is just not long enough!
