Superbly positioned next to West Burton's beautiful village green, Dale Cottage is the perfect base to enjoy your Wensleydale holiday and explore The Dales.

This tastefully-renovated stone cottage has two bedrooms, sleeping three people. The rooms retain much of the cottage's original character, including exposed beams and a cosy fireplace.

Keep cosy with the wood burning stove and underfloor heating, or snuggle upstairs under the impressive four-poster bed. In the warmer months you can make use of the patio furniture in the secluded garden. Excellent walking and cycling straight from the cottage, with the stunning Cauldron Falls just a couple of minutes walk away.

The master bedroom includes an impressive four-poster bed, with a single bed the second bedroom. A travel cot is available on request. The kitchen is fully-equipped with all of the usual facilities. High-speed fiberoptic WiFi Internet, Xbox, 32" TV, DVD and Bluetooth audio ensure that you're as comfortable as possible with everything you might expect at home.

At the back of the cottage is a patio area and shared use of the garden. Patio furniture is provided in the summer for you to enjoy the dales air and local produce. There's also a dry secure storage area for bikes and fishing tackle.

West Burton is the ideal location to base your Yorkshire Dales holiday. Fantastic walking, mountain biking and cycling is available straight from the cottage door. Aysgarth Falls and Castle Bolton are within easy walking distance across some of the most impressive scenery in The Dales.

West Burton also has one of the largest village greens in England, including football nets and a fully-equipped children's play area. Having no through-road West Burton is very peaceful and very safe for children.

Its central Wensleydale location brings many of the Yorkshire tourist attractions within easy driving distance. These include the towns of Hawes and Leyburn as well as the Wensleydale Railway, Hardraw Force, Wensleydale Creamery, Wensleydale Brewery, Middleham Castle and the Forbidden Corner.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We stopped at the cottage a few weeks ago and had a wonderful stay. We will definitely be returning and would highly recommend. The cottage itself is really well equipped with a log burner and under floor heating. It is a perfect place for exploring the North Dales. The local pub also serves fish and chips to take out!

Well what can I say, Dale Cottage was absolutely perfect.

  • 5 of 5

Dale Cottage was absolutely perfect for just the two of us & so snug with the wood burner lit in the evening.

The Cottage had everything you would need & was home from home to be honest & full of Character.

West Burton is beautiful quaint little village with lots of character & the waterfall is so beautiful.

We walked every other day visiting the Chocolate factory in Leyburn one day & of course Wensleydale Cheese factory another having lunch at the latter, this was amazing. The Aysgarth Falls is a short walk away & again beautiful scenery.Close by West Burton is Berry's farm shop another lovely place for lunch or afternoon tea.

We will be back for sure.

A lovely cottage in a great location

  • 4 of 5

This is a lovely although quite small cottage set in the beautiful village of West Burton.

It is in a great location for exploring the Dales (we can recommend the walk to Aysgarth Falls) and towns such as Hawes, Leyburn and Richmond. The cottage is clean and comfortable, minor suggestions would be a better dining table and in the kitchen a good vegetable knife and saucepan lids. We would be happy to stay hear again.

Lovely traditional cottage in a beautiful village

  • 4 of 5

Gareth was helpful from the beginning. The cottage was cosy, well-equipped and comfortable. It was tastefully decorated, but practical and we loved sitting in the secluded garden having a BBQ. It made an ideal base for a week's walking and sightseeing in the Dales and beyond. It was a delight to meander around the village, enjoying the views of the surrounding fells, watching locals play quoits on the village green, wandering down to the pretty Cauldron Falls and enjoying a tasty meal at the village pub. Peace, tranquillity and the natural sounds of the water and sheep made for a very relaxing location.

Special interest holidays:

Located just 100 yards from the Tour de France Yorkshire 2014 course the cottage is ideally situated for cyclists to explore The Dales and the most challenging climbs of Le Tour.

The area is also popular with mountain bikers and route guides are available in the cottage.

Excellent cycle shops are available in Leyburn and Reeth, and secure cycle storage is available at the cottage.

Walkers are spoilt for choice in the area, both direct from the door and further afield. A range of route guides are provided at the cottage and nearby Leyburn and Hawes boast several outdoor equipment shops.

Travel:

To make the most of your stay a car is recommended. A bus service is available that runs east to west between Hawes and Leyburn. This is especially useful for linear walks in the surrounding area.

Distances:

The nearby town of Leyburn, with its quaint market square, offers a good choice of shops, eateries and galleries.

The popular town of Hawes is also just 20 minutes drive away and hosts the Dales Countryside Museum, Wensleydale Creamery and many other attractions.

Castle Bolton is a great day out and within walking distance of the cottage. The stunning Aysgarth Falls are also a short walk away.

Further Details:

Dale Cottage is ideally located next to West Burton’s quaint village green, which includes football posts and a children’s play area. The Fox and Hounds is just a couple of hundred yards away, serving local ales and traditional pub food. There’s also a café, village shop, traditional butcher and craft shops in the village.

The famous waterfalls at Aysgarth are just a couple of minute's drive from the cottage, and a great photograph opportunity as well as providing a gentle stroll around the local area.

The town of Hawes is just 15 minute's drive away and has plenty to offer. The Dales Countryside Museum is a great day out, as is the Wensleydale Creamery.

While in the Hawes area it's also worth visiting Hardraw Force, either a small drive or enjoyable walk from the town. With a single drop of 100 feet from a rocky overhang it is claimed to be England's highest unbroken waterfall. It was also the setting for a memorable scene in the film Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves.

Leyburn is the cottage's closest town and has great facilities including many shops and a farmer's market. Leyburn has one of the highest market places in England, with breathtaking views across the Dales countryside. Leyburn is also famous for it Shawl walk, where legend has it Mary Queen of Scots dropped her shawl while escaping from nearby Bolton Castle.

Leyburn is also a stop along the excellent Wensleydale Railway. Trains run between Leeming Bar and Redmire, which is walking distance from the cottage. Trains are usually heritage diesels and rail cars from the 1960s, which offer excellent views along the route. Steam trains also run occasionally.

The famous Cauldron Falls at West Burton are just a couple of minutes walk from the cottage and provide an excellent photo opportunity as well as a relaxing waterside picnic spot. A little further along the valley is the village of West Witton, which includes the excellent Wenseydale Heifer restaurant as well as shops and pubs.
