About the property

Lodge in Clunton near Ludlow & Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England - Peaceful, idyllic location next to river, 5 minutes walk to village pub.

The lodge is located on a secluded site of just ten privately owned lodges, next to a small farm. It is a good size with a feeling of space and light. Just off the lounge is a generously proportioned kitchen diner with new modern appliances. The two spacious bedrooms are bright and comfortable. Anybody fancying a walk can start right from the lodge, without having to drive first. A walk to Clunton Coppice is recommended, with lovely views. Another nice walk is to the nearby iron age hill fort, with views to many parts of Shropshire and Wales. Fishing is permitted in the river next to the lodge, providing you have a rod licence. The area is also very popular for cyclists. A cycle store on the site is for safely storing your bike. Of course is you just want to relax, then the lodge will suit you. With its beautiful, quiet, secluded location and comfortable facilities, chilling out is easy. There is a large decking area with patio furniture, to enable you to enjoy the views of the river and countryside. If you like exploring in your car, then there are lots of lovely places to visit, including Ludlow, Shrewsbury and historic Ironbridge within easy driving distance. You are centrally positioned in the middle of south Shropshire

About David Smith

We live in rural Northamptonshire in a small village. We have a daughter and two grandchildren who keep us pretty busy.

David Smith purchased this cabin in 2013

Why David Smith chose Clunbury

We were so bowled over by the location, we decided to buy right away before the property got snapped up by someone else

What makes this cabin unique

We didn't really know Shropshire before, but have loved getting to know it more recently since we made the decision to buy the lodge there. Shropshire is a hidden gem and is only a couple of hours away from us so we can easily go for a weekend if the lodge is not let. We love the fact that there is a lovely pub that does great food, just 10 minutes walk up the lane from the lodge.

Guestbook comments from the owner

A real treat in the countryside, right on the river! Ash Lodge was an absolute dream stay, set in the countryside and situated right on the river bank, waking up to the sound of the flowing river was HEAVEN! The lodge is very well heated, we stayed over a cold January weekend and was very comfortable inside the lodge. It was just myself and my partner that stayed at the lodge but there is a second bedroom with two single beds also, which would have been ideal for another two adults, the lodge is bigger that we had expected. The living room is spectacular, glass windows that open up across the two walls, with views onto the fields with grazing sheep to the left and and flowing river to the right. We went to the nearby Ludlow the one day which was only around 25mins away and a great day/evening out. We also went for a walk up the hills to see great views, I am four months pregnant and this walking was not too much for myself but we could have done even more if i was a bit more capable - my point being, whether you are a keen walker or not there is a great walk with fantastic views for you! Plenty of friendly sheep! The kitchen had everything you could possibly need, every utensil under the sun. Also a great collection of DVD's and books in the lodge which was a nice surprise. We will definitely be returning, if not this summer then definitely next. Great weekend, wish I was back there!

Excellent location, friendly and attentive owner, everything you need in the lodge.

We needed a base to explore the area, Ash Lodge has a rural and very peaceful location perfect for that purpose, having near perfect weather helped make our stay so enjoyable. The lodge was light, airy and well fitted out with all the equipment you could need. Comfortable beds, sofas and outside chairs for relaxing in. The local pub in a few steps away and serves great fish & chips on a Wednesday ( book ). We really enjoyed our week listening to the river and birds. Good to see waste recycling bins to use on the site. We would happily go there again.

Absolutely love it here!

  • 5 of 5

Third visit, first class location and accommodation. There is nothing needed, everything is provided. OK, wifi is ropey, but it's the middle of the countryside and a landline is provided for use.

Sitting on the decking or lounge with gorgeous views is so relaxing, the pub is a five minute walk away, with new landlady who has brought in a new brewery's beer and quality wines.

Craven Arms is quirky, Clun is a lovely place to wander with good pubs and tea room. Ludlow is historic and full of small shops, bars, eateries.

The owner is a pleasure to deal with and always rings to make sure everything is alright for guests. We are booked in for December!

Lovely countryside retreat

  • 4 of 5

A lovely place for a quiet and peaceful countryside holiday. The lodge was very well appointed with everything we needed for cooking and entertainment on a rainy day. It's in a beautiful position with views of the river and surrounding hills. Just how we like it; dark at night and so quiet except for the murmur of the river and cows lowing in a field nearby. Great place to walk from into the surrounding countryside. The owners contacted us on arrival to make sure we had all we needed. Only one problem; our mobile phones are with 02 and there was absolutely no signal there or nearby.

Owner's Response: We are delighted our guests enjoyed their stay in Ash Lodge so much. We are aware that it is difficult to get a mobile signal in the area because it's so rural. However, we do supply a landline for free guest use in the lodge, along with free wi-fi.

Lovely facilities in the lodge with beautiful surroundings!

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing time and felt very blessed to have such a beautiful lodge to stay in at such a reasonable cost. We had everything we needed in the lodge for our time away. We enjoyed being able to just chill in the lodge as well as having the opportunity to go on a few trips to Shrewsbury and Ludlow. Very relaxing time away.

2nd visit

  • 5 of 5

Loved the lodge so much we returned this year. Its well equipped and very comfortable, very quiet only sounds we heard were the sheep and the river. An added bonus was the weather which meant we could enjoy our evenings on the terrace.
