About the property

2 bedroom, 2 bathroom villa in a quiet country location close to golf, water parks, beaches, restaurants and many other attractions.

The villa is set within the unspoilt countryside of the Algarve overlooking orange groves. The rural area is popular with walkers and close to the Algarve Way. The Monchique mountains are to the north and the beautiful beaches to the south. The villa is fully compliant with all safety and legal regulations as required by the Portuguese Tourist Board. Alojamento Local (AL) Registration No. 27422/AL

The living accommodation is spacious and comfortable and has plenty of modern conveniences to make your holiday as relaxing as possible. For your entertainment the villa has an above ground private pool (5m x 3.66m x 1.20m). The upstairs of the garage has a play room with a seating area and snooker/pool or table tennis table. From April 2017 there will be a full size outdoor table tennis table and table football.. For golfers the villa is also close to the Amendoeira and Silves Golf courses. It has underfloor heating and all rooms have secure lockable windows/patio doors and shutters. Mosquito screens are fitted in all the rooms. There is an entry video phone, free unlimited 4G internet access and television including Portuguese, English and Sport channels. It is easily accessible from Faro airport (40 minutes). For your convenience car hire is highly recommended. Poço Barreto is the closest village (2km), with a railway station, a little supermarket including an excellent butcher, some bars and one of the best restaurants in the area (O Alambique). Just a short drive from the villa is the historic town of Silves dominated by its XII Century Castle, with its Roman Bridge, traditional food market, and good choice of shops, restaurants and bars. Silves is also famous for the Medieval Festival held for 10 days in August. There are two large supermarkets, open 7 days a week till 10pm.

About Collette Richards

My husband and I live in the UK with our two sons.

I was introduced to the Algarve in 1986 . I fell in love with the place and my husband and I have spent most of our holidays since then renting villas in the area. After years of looking in estate agents windows we plucked up courage to view some of the properties. We eventually found an old ruined house for sale in our ideal location. We bought it in August 2006 and started on our "10 year project".

After the long process of getting planning permission and finding a builder we could trust we started building in May 2010 and stayed in our new house for the first time in August 2012. Only six years into our project. We have now started to develop the garden. January 2016 saw the creation of the Mediterranean garden to the side of the villa. In January 2017 a variety of fruit trees (lemons, lime, grapefruit, apple, pears, mango, kiwi, nectarine and fig) will be planted. The area in fromt of the kitchen terrace will be developed with borders and a path which will lead to the hammock underneath the carob trees (a lovely cool, shady place to relax).

Why Collette Richards chose Silves region

We spent many years looking all over Portugal for the perfect location. We finally decided on an area between the coast and the towns of Silves and Sao Bartholomew de Messines. The old ruin was ideal. Amongst the orange groves in an unspoilt ,quiet rural area. Everything we needed as a family was within a short distance. Restaurants, supermarkets, beaches and water parks - what could be better.

What makes this villa unique

It was built as a home from home. The kitchen is brilliant if you want to eat in or barbeque. The open plan area means that you can all be together if you want but there is also plenty of space to be apart - the play room above the garage is ideal for our two boys.

There are fantastic restaurants in the area - a full list is in the house with our personal recommendations.

A generous welcome pack of food and drink will be available so that you can have a snack (or breakfast if you arrive late) meaning you do not have to rush out to the supermarket when you arrive.

We provide all pool/beach towels so you can just take hand luggage if you wish

Home safely and very rested from our lovely stay at your villa. Everything at the villa was very good and as expected or better than your description.

Very well stocked with everything we could possibly want. We checked out some of the closer restaurants and places to visit, like the castle and found your information very helpful thank you.

I also did quite a bit of research on the internet whilst there, to find places that we were particularly interested in, so it was great to have the wi fi out in the sticks.

Fantastic rural villa!

We spent almost 2 weeks here and had a fabulous time. The villa is in a lovely quiet spot up in the hills which means at times you get a nice breeze to ease the heat. It is very modern and clean and really does have everything you could possibly need. A car is essential but you are only a 10 minute drive from the lovely Silves. Many other great places to visit along the Algarve are also only a twenty or so minute drive away.

On arrival we were met by Mel and shown around. Great welcome pack was much appreciated. There is lots of space both inside and outside the villa and I loved the open plan kitchen and huge fridge. Great communication from the owner from the very start. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxing holiday with some nice home comforts. Oh and both bathrooms were gorgeous! We hope to return next year. Thanks Collette for letting us stay in your lovely, lovely villa x

We were led to believe that there was a pool at the property and there was only what could be described as a 'dipping pool'. The garden was unfinished and not landscaped other than one small are which was nice. The building was disappointing in that it is a concrete box with no Portuguese features at all. The house itself however was well appointed with all the necessary kitchen gadgets, glasses and cutlery. The bedrooms were comfortable and the place very clean.

Having stayed in other rental villas, it did not compare. I would not recommend the villa to friends until and unless the garden and pool are finished and a little soul added to the property.

Owner's Response: I am sorry that you found your choice of villa and experience disappointing with so many other families giving us fantastic 5* positive reviews. I am not sure what led you to believe that the swimming pool was anything else but an above ground pool measuring 5m x 3.66m x 1.20m. The photos and information on the website do not try to hide the fact in any way. My rental charges reflect this and are for occupancy of the villa . I do not charge for use of the pool, it is a bonus during the hot summer months.. The advertisement on the website clearly said that the garden was unfinished and in the design stage consisting of slightly tamed wilderness with almond, carob and plum trees. There is no need to venture onto the surrounding land if you do not wish to. The terraces have plenty of space to sit and relax in the sunshine. This is also reflected in my rental charges. For future guests a selection of fruit trees have been planted (lemon, lime, apple, pear, nectarine, mango, fig and kiwi) and the area in front of the kitchen terrace has been developed with flower borders and a path to the hammock under the carob trees. I am also sorry that the modern Portuguese style of the villa was not to your taste. Again the photographs clearly show the shape of the building from many angles and distances. However, the eirado (formerly used to dry almonds) is a typical feature of many of the old Portuguese houses as are the painted lanterns and terracotta olive oil urn we have positioned in the new garden.

Nice villa and pool in resonable location need an suv due to the unmade road but if you want peace and quite small price to pay The villa has every thing you require with added touch of a welcome pack We spent an enjoyable week just relaxing and the pool is just the right size for cooling off. Yes would return again if going to Portugal

Many of our neighbours have Corsa type vehicles and we usually hire something similar or a little larger if the whole family goes down.

A spacious, clean and very well equipped villa

The villa is located in a very convenient spot between the lovely hills and countryside and the coast, so we had a good choice of things to do within easy reach. We found the villa very clean and well equipped with plenty of space both inside and out. The pool was really welcome as was the hammock under the trees. I would recommend this villa for families who like a varied holiday but welcome privacy away from the crowds on the coast. We enjoyed trying out various beaches described in the information booklet as well as visiting inland towns and areas of interest. We had a lovely holiday and the owners and people who greeted us etc were friendly and helpful. The garden is still a work in progress so I wouldn't recommend it for very young children.

Wonderful place in great location to experience all the Algarve has to offer

Lovely villa , very well equipped. It had everything you could possibly need. Car is essential as it is in a rural location but the owners make that perfectly clear on the website. Information was very helpful and had listings of all the shops , beaches and restaurants with addresses , directions and reviews. If you want to experience the local way of life , as we did , then this villa is perfect. Would definitely stay again on returning to the Algarve.

I have nothing other than praise for the Villa or the owners. The communication from Collette was exemplary with the best written instruction and guide to local restaurants and places to visit that I have experienced. The villa was superb. Very quiet location, and brilliantly equipped. We wanted for nothing. All contributed to a fantastic holiday, and my parents, both in their eighties, loved every second. Notes on accommodation: A generous welcome pack is provided for your arrival. The villa is all on one level, so suitable for wheelchair users. Although the pool is not heated the thermal cover keeps it at a lovely temperature. Outside: The detached villa is in a really peaceful location. It has its own private fenced garden (At the moment the gardens are in the design stage so the area consists of slightly tamed wilderness with almond, carob, plum trees and a small selection of shrubs. The large, terraced area outside the kitchen is perfect for outdoor dining and barbecuing. It has an extendable table,six chairs (can seat up to 10) and wooden pergola for shade. The front terrace has two small tables that seat four. There is a further seating area which can be covered by a gazebo with mosquito nets at the end of the front terrace. The private above ground swimming pool is situated at the end of the original walled eirado (formerly used to collect water and dry almonds). It is 5m by 3.66m and 1.20m deep. A safety gate is available to block the entrance if needed for small children. There are 4 sunbeds, three occasional tables, four sun umbrellas and four reclining chairs. Utility Room: The lower floor of the garage contains a sink and drainer, washing machine, tumble dryer, iron and ironing board. Barbeque and accessories. There is also a further drinks fridge. There is a selection of pool toys/inflatable as well as items for the beach. All bath towels and linen provided and changed weekly. Weekly cleaning Pool/Beach towels provided The upper floor of the garage is the playroom. It has a pool/table tennis table and a seating area.
