A river at my gardens end

A terrace walk and half a rood

Of land set out to plant a wood'

About the Owner

Peter and Cheryl Hitchen are now semi-retired after owning and running a number of holiday cottages on Exmoor since 2000. Heddon valley Mill is our home but we do have one cottage so that other couples who love walking and nature can share this beautiful part of North Devon.

Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

We have just spent a week in this beautiful appartment. It is in an incredible position, so peaceful and tranquil. The gardens are a delight and kept very well with a lovely mixture of shrubs and trees, not to forget the river running alongside the property. Peter and Cheryl were very welcoming and full of useful information on places to visit and how to get there. We enjoyed the swimming pool and jacuzzi every evening, having visited some interesting places during the day.

Owner's Response: Many thanks for these kind comments. We love to share our love of Exmoor and North Devon with our visitors. There are so many great walks - some without even moving your car from the carpark! - and really interesting and beautiful places to visit. This really is a stunning part of the country to visit

Fantastic!

  • 5 of 5

This place is an absolute gem! Even the stunning pictures don't do it justice. From the moment we arrived to when we left the hosts - Peter and Cheryl, were very welcoming, friendly and made us feel at home.

The cottage is excellent - very homely and comfortable. the grounds in which the cottage is situated are incredible - well manicured gardens with the river running through it, and only a few steps to the open countryside - perfect for walking and relaxing. After a long days walking we were also able to relax in the heated pool and jacuzzi. This is an ideal base to explore all there is to see in North Devon and Exmoor. perfect for couples and if you have a four legged friend they would love it too! Steve, Helen & Gus

Excellent

  • 5 of 5

We found all details very accurate regarding this superb 1 level accommodation. It has everything you need and more, and also some very thoughtful touches. Peter and Cheryl were excellent hosts providing plenty of information regarding local places to visit and eat, all of which we found excellent. We enjoyed the use of their swimming pool and Jacuzzi, and our labradoodle enjoyed the large secure garden to explore.

Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a a really enjoyable 4 day break staying at this delightful cottage in the Heddon Valley. Set by the side of a stream about 1/2 mile from the road leading down to the Hunters Inn

the cottage is well kept, in a very peaceful location and has everything you'll need, very clean and tidy and the owners were so thoughtful and helpful, suggesting various places to visit and eat most of which we tried and found their advice very good. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend a stay here to anyone.

Owner's Response: We are away from it all here at the Mill in a lovely setting but apart from our two local pubs there are many others within easy reach with a good atmosphere and good food (all of which take dogs or we wouldn't go to them ourselves!)which we are very happy to share with our visitors.
