Cottage in Seaham, Co Durham. - Quiet location, set on top of kinley hill with stunning views of the East Durham, Heritage Coastline

Kinley tower is a beautiful, recently renovated folly. This grade 2 British listed building offers guests a peaceful location on a relaxed family run farm. Please be aware that due to the buildings age there a couple of areas where the ceiling heights are lower than normal.

Kinley Tower is located on our family Farm, and has been recently renovated, it is located a five minute walk from Hawthorn Nature Reserve, and easy reach to Dalton Park (shopping outlet) and Metrocentre, Durham, Sunderland and Newcastle.

Notes on accommodation: Kinley Tower is a recently restored folly near to the North East Coast, Hawthorn Dene and many other local attractions including a recently rebuilt marina at Seaham. The property itself boasts excellent views of the surrounding area in the comfort of our lovingly restored 19th Century Folly. Outside: Outside the property there is gated access to a private drive and garden with ample room for 2 cars if needed. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen and towels inc.

Unique property in a unique location

Arrived in snow to find a very warm and comfortable property, with a well equipped kitchen. Good wifi, great views and walks from the doorstep. Nice touches included the welcome pack and a happy anniversary card - thanks Wayne and Yvonne.

As town dwellers with net curtains and black out blinds, we found the lack of bedroom curtains a little disconcerting and being used to a power shower, we found the bathroom a compromise (although the set-up was clear from the description).

Overall, a fantastic place to stay for anyone visiting the North East, especially if they like beaches. A huge variety of places to visit nearby and the regeneration that has taken place locally is truly impressive. We visited in February. Some very cold winds at times and temperatures outside never rose above 5 degrees. Nevertheless, we were always warm and cosy in the tower. Many thanks to Wayne and Yvonne.

Great place. Great view. Great people.

We had a lovely time at Kinley Tower and the surrounding areas. Everything was a good standard. Very clean and very warm as the weather was a bit chilly (it was January). The welcome pack was super as many places don't do it. It's nice to get there late in the day and you don't have to go looking for a shop. The bottle of wine went down a treat. Great views of the sea and the horses in the surrounding fields. Would love to return in the warmer weather to get full use of the outside table and chairs and to walk across the fields to the beach. Wayne and Yvonne were very helpful and made us very welcome.

We have recommended it to our friends and relatives - that says all.

Enchanting accommodation in idyllic coastal setting

A warm welcome awaited us at Kinley with a welcome basket of goodies and a Christmas tree! The pictures online do not do this property the full justice it deserves. Tastefully decorated throughout, good quality furnishings and well equipped kitchen. The surrounding area is beautiful and we loved watching the horses, sea views and the local area. We had visitors during our stay and they were equally impressed. Dalton Park, the Metro centre and Newcastle city centre provide ample shopping as well as the local town of Seaham for supermarkets. The free parking and fish and chips made a nice treat whilst checking out Seaham marina and the coastline.

The free internet was a bonus with a good mobile signal too, the tv is a good size but doesn’t have smart access for catch up etc we didn’t mind and you are getting away from the trappings of home when you’re on holiday.

DVDs, books and games were provided. Will be an added cosy treat if the fire centrepiece was connected, saying that, the electric heaters are more than ample and in freezing temperatures we were never cold.

We were primarily here to visit family in Tyneside over the Christmas break so didn’t do too much sightseeing, there is plenty about though ! We shall definitely be booking again, many thanks to Wayne and Yvonne, fantastic hosts and excellent communication we feel privaleged to have been able to stay at Kinley Tower. Well worth the 6hour drive from Norfolk!

Hawthorn village is two mile away. Seaham is located 4 miles from the property with Durham, Sunderland, Hartlepool and Newcastle all within easy driving distances.

Further Details:

Although Kinley Tower is located rurally all facilities can be reached within easy driving distances, the town of Seaham has had over the years millions spent improving the dock area and also incorporates shopping facilities inc Byron Place and Dalton Park.

Kinley Tower is close to some of the North East's great shore fishing points and also close by, trout angling is available on ponds at Warden Law. With plenty of walking available, historic towns and cities close by and a local pub that serves home cooked food hopefully you'll find lots to explore in the North East of England

Changeover Day:
Usually we would accept guests on arrival at 3pm and we would like to have guests ready to hand back the keys by 10am on the day of their departure.

Our pricing is mainly based on short stays and we are more than willing to discount the pricing for people willing to take advantage of longer breaks if needed, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Any deposit amout paid is non refundable.

Payment can be paid by bank transfer, cash or cheque. A deposit will be required to secure a booking, usually £50.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 7 days before check-in date.
  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 14 days before check-in date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
