House in Alhama De Granada, Andalucia, Spain - In The Arabic Quarter, Right On The Square Of The Main Church

A lovely old traditional Andalucian house in the Arabic quarter of the ancient spa town of Alhama de Granada. The house has 3 good sized double bedrooms all with balconies. Two bathrooms. There is a modern kitchen and living room. The good sized roof terrace has spectacular views over the town and countryside beyond you can see the flat topped Parapanda mountain in the distance. The jacuzzi hot tub is the ideal place to unwind any time of the year after a hard days relaxing, walking, cycling or sightseeing. We have lovingly renovated this old family house using local craftsmen and sympathetic traditional materials, there are a lot of original features.

About Stephen & Allison McCann

My wife and I have recently retired, we have 3 kids, one just finished at Uni in Manchester and working in London, one working in Leeds and one in 6th Form college in Leeds. Since retirement we spend a lot more time in this part of Andalucia, our Spanish is improving (slowly) and we are certainly getting to know the area even better. It is a delight to be here.

Why Stephen & Allison McCann chose Granada Province (Costa Tropical)

We love this part of Spain, we try to visit as often as possible. We feel it is an authentic Spanish town - incredible light, fabulous food, great people and hardly any English spoken. It is not far from the airport at Malaga, but it is a million miles from the pubs and full English breakfasts on the coast. Also the prices are a lot more reasonable than the coast, you are simply charged the same as the locals.

What makes this house unique

When we stay at the house, even if it is for a long weekend we feel immediately relaxed. It is a very healthy place to be, the food is great, people are friendly and the temperature is perfect whatever time of the year we visit. We wanted to be in a small town, so that everything is in walking distance, shops, cafe bars, the gorge, the spa ... it takes a little over an hour to get from Malaga, we park the car and it mostly stays there for the entire duration of the trip. The level of stress reduction is amazing when you can leave the car and walk everywhere.

"Lovely, spacious, and homely house in a fantastic location - Alhama is a pretty and traditional town, tranquil and not over-touristed whilst having a strong community feel and plenty of very friendly bars and restaurants (we particularly recommend the family-run Siguriya restaurant which seems to be very well-known locally, and for good reason - both food and friendliness of the proprietors). The surrounding countryside is glorious, and it's and easy and scenic drive to coast, cities, lakes. Stephen extended great hospitality and advice through advance emails, plentiful provision of local area guides etc in the house, a 'welcome' supply of bread/wine/tea/coffee and other store cupboard essentials to get us started, and well-organised (and very friendly) local meet-and-greet arrangements. The jacuzzi was fab too - a relaxing highlight at the end of every day, and plenty big enough for our party of five to bask in simultaneously. The house has lots of character and is in a fantastic location right in the Plaza de presos opposite the old prison and main church. Notes on accommodation: The house has been beautifully renovated by craftsmen, using locally hand made terracotta tiles, wooden shutters and other sympathetic materials. There is also a wood burning stove for those chilly winter evenings. There is plentiful on-street parking outside the house and close by. The water temperature in the jacuzzi can be easily adjusted and thus used all year round. Outside: There is a roof terrace with spectacular views, some shade, chairs and mosaic tables, lovely place to sit and read, to eat, have an evening cocktail or just relax and take in the view. There is a partly covered, walled, private yard with a 6 person jacuzzi hot tub. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and bedlinen are included. Extra cleaning service available on request.
