About the property

Cottage in Cwm-yr-Eglwys, Newport, Pembrokeshire National Park And National Trust 50 Yards From Beach

Beautifully decorated warm and cosy traditional fisherman's cottage with log burner and efficient night storage heaters. Lovely landscaped gardens with huge built in barbeque good teak outdoor furniture, steamer loungers and dining table/chairs. Situated in quiet village with dinghy sailing, canoeing very safe beach and fabulous swimming in very cold but clean and clear sea! Spectacular views from the many walks close by with frequent sightings of seals, dolphins and porpoises and rare bird life including peregrine falcons and kestrals. Cwm has only 15 houses, few full time residents and is generally the most peaceful place in the world. Capacity on the beach is limited by the small car park although for the family regatta fortnight at the beginning of August more is made available. Wonderful restaurants nearby as well as art galleries. No supermarkets for miles but good farmers markets, butchers and delis etc in Newport and Fishguard.

About Olivia Bloomfield

Our family has holidayed in Cwm-yr-Eglwys for over 50 years; my husband and I bought Troed-yr-rhiw about 15 years ago. We have updated a lot with a proper shower, huge hot water tank, modern kitchen etc and of course WiFi. We visit all year round, the cleaner puts the heating on and lays the first fire for us so it is instantly welcoming. Our children have always loved it, the beach is safe for everything, we keep lobster pots just outside the bay, mackerel fishing is good and the highlight of the year is the regatta fortnight with swimming sailing and rowing races. It hasn't changed for decades and is delightfully but safely amateur. There are wonderful coastal walks on the doorstep, restaurants and pubs nearby and the Golden Lion in Newport provides the teenage 'scene'

Olivia Bloomfield purchased this cottage in 1998

Why Olivia Bloomfield chose Fishguard, Newport, The Preseli Hills & Bluestone

It's only an hour from the end of the M4 but a world away from normal life! So much wildlife from seals to porpoises and dolphins, and birds including peregrine falcons and kestrals just on the doorstep.

It's rarely crowded as this bit of Pembrokeshire simply doesn;t have the holiday infrastructure so even in high season it's easy to get around to visit St David's other remote beaches, to get restaurant reservations etc

What makes this cottage unique

There are only 15 houses in the village, and a very private bijou staic caravan site which 'hosts the village green for evening cricket games Most houses and caravans have been in the same familys' hands for years. There is a real sense of community, people watch out for others on the beach, look out for people in trouble on the water in boats and have regular barbeques on the beach with any other families who are around. There is plenty of picnicware at the cottage but a portable barbeque is perhaps a good idea in the summer.
