About the property

Farmhouse in Porthpean Village, near St. Austell, Cornwall, England, UK - Delightful Coastal House + Garden, Walk to Beach, Perfect For Family Groups With Children

The Old Farm House is a charming, family house dating from the late eighteenth century. It has been in our family for two generations and has been sensitively modernized and restored, with many original features and materials it now offers a blend of tradition, comfort and style. The large oak floored living/ dining room and conservatory offers a spectacular view of St. Austell Bay and makes this house superb for family meals and celebrations. A door from here onto the generous terrace and garden make for easy summer living and outdoor dining, also enjoying the same marvelous view. With a large cosy lounge and 2nd TV room/den there is plenty of space for everyone in your group to find somewhere to relax. Every bedroom enjoys a south facing view over the garden or the coast so no one will feel they have second best. The mature and enclosed garden allows you to relax with young children, whilst taking in the sea air and fantastic view. Reduced green fees at Porthpean Golf Club are available for guests of The Old Farm House.

Why Mel Hallett (Property Manager) chose Saint Austell Bay

Our location allows you either to escape the crowds by taking a walk on the coastal path, or to access some of Cornwalls top attractions.

What makes this house unique

The Cornish Coast is a beautiful and ever changing landscape, and the views from our house are superb. Few other properties allow you to dine whilst watching the tall ships from Charlestown Harbour sail across St. Austell Bay.

Guestbook comments from the owner

1. Our family loved this property, the babies loved playing in the large dining room and the toddler loved the garden. Also good provision of travel cot and highchair and stair-gate. The view from the dining room and garden is amazing and definitely undersold from the pictures. It is a short walk to the beach and ideally suited for visiting so many local attractions. We could have easily filled two weeks! The house has a lovely character to it, at the same time as being equipped for family life. Would love to stay again. May 2012.

2. This wonderful farmhouse was stunning, it is a delight to be here even when the weather lets you down! The garden is lovely and we had a wonderful time. Lots of places to see and visit and beautiful walks. July 2011.

3. A large house with excellent views and well laid out accommodation. Very suitable for a family holiday. Child friendly and did accommodate three generations very well. Sept 2010.

Views are stunning form this family orientated house.

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed the cosy space that this house offered to the five adults, and two little boys who visited. The children particularly loved the toys. Having previously stayed in other VRBO homes, I would like to suggest a few things that would have improved our stay. The use of a hairdryer, especially in the cooler month of late October, would have helped us. A few extra toilet rolls, some bin liners, and some more dishwasher cubes would have been more generous.

Fantastic place to stay in Cornwall

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed in farmhouse for a week's holiday; for many of us, it was our first trip to Cornwall! What a great place to stay to experience one of the most beautiful parts of the country. The house is really comfortable, clean and well appointed. The team obviously take great care in preparing it for guests. Mel (the property manager) was on hand to help, even sending my mobile phone and charger back to London after I'd left it on the dining table! We were well placed to visit lots of other parts of the county including the Eden Project, Padstow, Falmouth and lots of the beautiful coast. This is a great place for families and would highly recommend.

Perfect location, amazing house

  • 5 of 5

We had high expectations from this house and they were actually exceeded. The view was even more beautiful in reality and we all complained we were unable to adequately describe the peace, sounds and smells of the surrounding countryside . We were a party of mixed ages from four to sixty nine and it suited all of us in different ways. The three children almost lived in the garden and we all enjoyed a relaxing BBQ and many other meals around the large dining table overlooking the sea. it was so well equipped that we lived as comfortably as at home. The house was clean, the property manager called to check all was well, the bedrooms were comfortable and there was plenty of room for us to spread out and relax in smaller groups when we wanted. We went out and about to St Ives, Lost gardens of Heligan, Looe, Charlestown, Mevagissey, Perranporth. All in easy reach. We were also pleased to find two large supermarkets nearby and some takeaways for an evening when we wanted to be lazy! We couldn't recommend it enough, and would love to return.

A fabulous return

  • 5 of 5

Had such a great time last year we decided to return. Everything about the farmhouse is perfect for a family holiday. It is equipped with everything you need, a basket of goodies which was very much appreciated, extremely comfortable beds and we never got tired of the amazing view from the main

room. The house was really clean and the towels and bed linen were white and fresh. We love Porthpean beach with its cafe and toilets and most of all the kayaking along the coast. We saw seals everyday and even enjoyed them

swimming beneath our kayaks. We definitely recommend the Old Farmhouse and thank everyone involved for their very warm welcome.
