Villa near Alora, Costa del Sol, Spain - Peaceful And Secluded Position Nestled On The Hillside Located Near The Andalucian Town Of Alora

Cerro Verde, our charming three bedroom villa, is nestled on rolling hillsides near the traditional Andalucian village of Alora, just 50 minutes drive from Malaga. Stunning views and a secluded position make it the perfect choice for unwinding with friends or family. Meanwhile, its proximity to the coast also makes it ideal for beach lovers, with the night-life and restaurants of Malaga or Marbella a comfortable drive away. The villa is newly refurbished and has been restored in a way that provides sympathetic and traditional Spanish living. Each room is furnished to a very high standard, and has all of the modern amenities you would expect - including Wi-Fi. There is also air conditioning for summer visits and under floor heating for winter stays. Our outside area is fenced and includes a large swimming pool for cooling off in during hot Spanish summer days. The pool is surrounded by a large terraced area, with a pergola for poolside shade. The Villa is surrounded by both shaded and sunny terraces. There is also a large pergola near recently planted palms ideal for relaxing in the shade, or barbecues in the evening.

We continue to develop the garden, including building a feature Well amongst the palms.

There is a sanded area the size of a badminton court for both racket games and boules.

There is a covered car-port.

We purchased the farmhouse in 2009, as four walls and a roof, drawn to the stunning beauty of the views, the tranquillity of the area and the easy access from Malaga airport.

The house is very much in rural Spain, which was important to us when deciding where we wanted our home. Planning permissions and connecting water and electricity took time, and the project has been very much a labour of love. We have used local builders and sourced everything possible from the local area, in order to support the economy in the region.

What makes this villa unique

The Villa has been recently restored in a traditional Andalucian style, yet at the same time it still benefits from all of the modern amenities you would expect. It provides spacious and luxurious accommodation both inside and out - with a fully fitted kitchen, a family bathroom and three good sized bedrooms, one of which is en-suite.

Finca Cerro Verde is ideal for year-round stays as it includes under floor heating and a wood-burning stove, as well as a dual-mode air conditioning system. This provides cooling in the summer and heating in the winter - although once the wood burner gets going, you may find you do not need any other type of heating at all!The main 4.5m2 living room is accessed through the kitchen and is comfortably furnished, opening onto terracing with spectacular views

This property is superb, Nick and Penny have restored & furnished their villa with fantastic style and flair. We visited this beautiful Villa in Sept 2014 it is truly is an absolute gem. Our Party, my partner , daughter , her partner & myself had the a great time. The villa is beautiful throughout and furnished as you would your main home. We recommend it to any family for a relaxing enjoyable holiday. The local town Alora and area has plenty of bars and restaurants to visit for meals out; there are many cultural tourist places to visit within easy reach and the beach and other coastal places are around 40 mins drive away. We would return to this Villa again.



Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, families with young children, people with disabilities and romantic getaway

Notes on accommodation: All bedrooms, kitchen and Lounge have dual cooling/heating Air-conditioning. Bedrooms and bathrooms also have under-floor heating for out-of-season stays. There's also a log-burner in the Lounge. Outside: At the front of the Villa, there is a pretty garden which is fully stocked with a variety of flowering shrubs and plants. The front terrace area is not covered and is a real sun-trap, even during the winter months, when it is still possible to take breakfast outside in the sunshine. A table and four chairs are provided for this purpose. The sizeable garden area is fenced, in order to keep the agricultural part of the property separate, although it is worth taking a walk up the hillside through the olives to look across the valleys. The large swimming pool is 9m x 5m and provides welcome refreshment in the heat of summer. It is surrounded with numerous sun loungers and has a large covered pergola for those who prefer some shade at the poolside. A gas-fired barbecue is also available for your use. At the rear, there is a covered wraparound terrace which is accessible from the lounge, with a dining table for six. There's a stunning roof terrace which is perfect for secluded sunbathing. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All bed linen is provided, as are bath and hand towels, and towels for the pool. Additional linen and towels can be provided for stays of more than one week. Other: A roof terrace with stunning views across the valley to the mountains beyond is accessed by external stairs.

Excellent villa and holiday location

We were a family of 5 adults taking our first holiday to Spain. We are regular holiday makers through OwnersDirect and have stayed in some very nice and some not so nice properties over the years. We have always said we would never return to places we have been before because we always like to experience something new, but without a doubt this is the best property we have stayed in, the location is great and we would definitely come back. We couldn't fault anything and unlike some properties we found everything you needed was there, from utensils, to mugs, plates etc. The property inside is lovely, clean, contemporary and a welcome place to return to after spending the day visiting local places. Outside is equally pleasant with very attractive gardens, fantastic views and an excellent pool area. Just sitting on the terrace watching the view, the many types of birds and life go by in the distance when taking breakfast, lunch and dinner was so relaxing. The track up to the property is a bit difficult when you first drive it but you soon get used to it. Don't be put off by this, the end result is worth it.

We found the location provided an excellent base from which to explore this part of Andalusia. The supermarket was located in Alora, had everything you needed and the castle itself was worth a visit. We also went to Antequera, Ronda, Malaga, Mijas, El Torcal, Caminito Del Rey and spent some days at the villa.

We would also like to say that the owners (Nick and Penny) were excellent throughout, from the point we booked up until we got home. They responded quickly to e-mails, sent us a welcome e-mail, happy holidays text and welcome home e-mail. Nobody has ever done that before.

We would certainly recommend Finca Cerro Verde. If you decide to book you will not be disappointed.

Superb

This is the second year we have stayed at this beautiful Villa and despite the fact we like to travel and visit different places every year we are already planning next years stay.

The Villa itself is lovely and really home from home everything you could ask for. Very well equipped even down to binoculars to look at the magnificent scenery.

It is incredibly peaceful and secluded we literally didn't see a soul through our entire stay. After relaxing in the Sun all day by the pool coming back to the villa taking a shower preparing dinner then sitting on the patio watching the sun set over the mountains with a glass of wine ...heaven .just couldn't get fed up with doing this every night. The sunset scenery absolutely breathtaking.

I have never felt so relaxed on a holiday ...looking at the scenery you can see for miles and total silence it's wonderful.

When everything goes dark and the tiny gecko appears on the wall... that's not all there is to see....step out from the coverd area and look up and the most incredible sight of all thousands of stars quite incredible ....didn't really want to write such a glowing rating as want to keep this secret hideaway all to ourselves but it is stunning ...

There are lots of places to visit we have been twice now and still have many places on our to do list. Locally Alora is a lovely little town only 20 minute drive ...never any traffic.Superb little supermarket selling everything you would need prob first time I've actually enjoyed visiting a supermarket.

As previous posters have said if hiring a car something a bit 4x4 like better option than a mini metro ...although it is also half the fun driving up to the villa on the long dirt track.(more fun I guess with a mini metro) but totally safe .

Would thoroughly recommend this villa so quiet tranquil peaceful only disruption is the occasional motorbike car or Lorry way in the distance or the clanging of the goats bells when being hurded across a distant hillside. Photographs do not do it justice

Excellent all round, delighted we found this gem.

Best place we’ve hired through OD in 15 years by some way.

Very smart, modern, spacious, light and well equipped villa with fantastic pool area and great shaded outdoor eating.

Wonderful views in a very scenic area. Antequera is pretty, and the Chorro Gorge is spectacular.

Also the keen pricing offers great value to compared to a lot of place on this site.

Nick and Penny have done an absolutely fabulous job of the conversion and you can really tell it’s a place they use themselves. Home from home comfort levels.

Also great comms with a very helpful owner. Check out his own very smart and impressive website for lots more photos and local tourist info.

As other reviews mention, on first ascent the access track will seem a little steep and rough in places, but a confident driver will soon get used to it and have no problems. The views and privacy make it well worth it.

So if you are looking to go a little way up into the hills in this part of Spain, and like smart modern secluded villas with excellent private pools, you really will do very well to beat this one. Book now!

Couldn't ask for more!

We spent two weeks at the villa with our teenagers.

The property was well maintained, clean, well equipped and everything was provided for a comfortable stay. The pool was ideal with a covered area for relaxing in the shade when needed.

The property is accessed via a dirt track so a hire car with reasonable ground clearance is recommended.

Excellent communication with the owner.

This is definitely the place to stay if you're looking for a peaceful, relaxing holiday in beautiful surroundings.

The only one we want to go back too

We stayed at this property for three weeks from the 1st July. We wanted peace and tranquility in the country with some luxuries like a pool and a roof top sun terrace, airconditioning, security, covered eating area, dishwasher, space, no neighbours, etc etc and of course good sunshine.

We got the lot at this property.

Everything was in good working order, the aircon was wonderful at night. The kitchen was very well equipped with good quality glass and china (John Lewis I guess) and plenty of everything, we were only two but plenty for a larger party, I know we are odd but we always pack egg cups when we holiday as rentals never seem to have them but here there were eight!!

Marvellous views over the valley and so quiet, you hear the odd car going along the road in bottom of the valley which must be half a mile away and you can watch with the binoculars if you haven't anything else to do, can get quite exciting if you see two cars at same time.

Everything was clean and well presented.

Good contact with owner and local 'meet and greet'

There is a long unmade road/track to the property which is always the way if you want the peace and quiet, so don't book a Fiat 500 when your considering car hire.

Pool and the shaded area were fantastic, photo's don't do it justice.

We have been booking through Owners Direct for many many years and have always been pleased with the rentals, we have never returned to a property or a location but we want to return to this one.

Coast/Beach:

The nearest beaches are just 50 minutes drive and ten minutes from the new Port area of Malaga. If you fancy a lively day out at the beach, or a quiet lunch in an old town square, then this is the place to come. Further along the coast is the famous resort of Marbella is famous for beaches, bars, shops, restaurants and night-life - providing something for everyone if all that tranquillity in the Andaucian hills gets too much for you!

Travel:

Finca Cerro Verde is 45 minutes drive from Malaga airport, 110km from Granada, and 140km from Gibralter.

It is 20 minutes drive north of Alora along the A343. The final 1km is along an unpaved track, which guarantees privacy, and there is very little traffic use.

Because of its secluded location, we recommend a 4 x 4 vehicle to gain comfortable access to Finca Cerro Verde, especially during the winter months.

Distances:

The Finca is located near the small village of Alora, which is around 50km from Malaga in Southern Spain (45 minutes by car).

Known as the 'Lake District' of Andalucia, the lakes of the Ardales National Park are just 40 minutes away by car. On the way to the Ardales Lakes, you will pass the magnificent 200m high El Chorro Gorge, a limestone gorge which was formed by the Guadalhorce river.

Antequera is around 35 minutes drive from the Finca and is a much larger town than Alora.

Further Details:

Alora is the closest town of any size and provides an excellent range of shops including a Mercadona supermarket on Calle de la Albahaca, and many local bakeries, fruit and vegetable shops, fishmongers and butchers. You will also find pharmacies, clothing and shoe shops, plus local banks with cash point machines. Do bear in mind though that, in summer, the Spanish like a siesta in the middle of the day, so local amenities tend to open from 9am to 1.30pm, then close until 5pm before reopening until around 9pm.

If you don't fancy cooking at home, Alora also has a great range of bars and restaurants, which generally cost less than you would expect to pay in the UK.

There are many different activities which are available nearby, including Golf, Horse Riding, Quad Biking, Bird Watching and Canoeing, as well as visiting one of the many traditional Spanish Fiestas if you time your visit right!

A £200 damage and security deposit is payable six weeks before arrival by Bank Transfer. This will be returned to you within four days of departure, after the property has been checked, and will be refunded by the same means as it was paid.

Changeover Day:
Change-over days are flexible. Occupancy is from 3pm on the day of arrival to 11am on the day of departure.
During the low season we require a minimum of a five night stay. During peak season the minimum stay is seven nights. Single nights may be added.
