This light & airy, comfortably furnished property with wonderful views of Mt. Canigou & the surrounding hills is situated in the village of Oms in the Vallespir within a few minutes' walk of the village shop & café. Céret, just 20mins away & famed for its Museum of Modern Art which includes a permanent exhibition of some of Picasso's ceramics has a colourful Saturday market which winds through the central streets of the town, making it the perfect place to relax at one of the many café terraces & enjoy a coffee or glass of rosé. A visit to one of the several fortified villages, Cathar castles & abbeys or, for the more sportive types, to the adventure parks in the woods or over the nearby lake makes a great family day out & then home for dinner on the terrace & a bottle of local wine. Perpignan, the coast & the Spanish border all being just 45mins away, the property is ideally situated for making the most of a holiday in this beautiful & historically interesting region.
We stayed in Villa Des Fleurs for the first 2 weeks of August and had a wonderful time! The Villa is beautiful!! Very spacious and comfortable with a great layout. The house is very well equipped and has all you need. We spent a lot of time at the villa as our boys were quite happy in the pool and playing table tennis and we were happy just to relax. We had some lovely BBQ's out on the terrace at night watching the sun go down and admiring all the stars in the sky. We did some day trips to the beach and particularly enjoyed Coullioure, an old fishing town close to the Spanish border. Very beautiful with lovely places to eat and plenty of art galleries. We loved the nearby town Ceret and went there for the Saturday market and spent hours just walking around. There's a small square where you can sit out, eat and listen to live music. Lynne was very helpful and gave us lots of tips & ideas, I think we would have missed out on a lot of things if she had not told us about it! Thank you!!
We stayed for a week in the delightful house up in the fresh clean air in the hills near Ceret. Great space with everything we needed and all in excellent working order. Very comfortable for a group of six. Spacious. A private and beautiful spot to watch the sun and the mist rising and rolling over the mountains close by. nearby Ceret a delightful town with lovely art gallery and plenty of eating options. Drive to the coast for sea and art at Collioure - market towns all over the place. They were bringing in the grapes in the local vineyards on our final days - lots of activity in the valley. A fabulous part of France and so near to Spain - not crowded at all. A lovely holiday and a great base for doing nothing but reading and resting or going places.
A very well equipped house in a perfect location. Nearby village shop for essentials (Bread, croissants etc) fantastic scenery, and lovely peace and quiet.
Ceret is 10 minutes down the (winding) road and its a short hop to Spain.
The house is underplayed on this site. Its very clan and well equipped, able to sleep 4 - 6 easily, lots of space and nice touches. (we watched a lot of the DVD's) the kitchen has sharp knives - a sure sign they have paid attention to detail. Lynn was on hand if help were needed, and offered advice on places to eat and walking routes (although it was too hot for that)
there's shade by the pool, which made it perfect for the really hot days, and there's table tennis - a holiday staple for our family!
a very good place to go.
We've visited this area a few times but had our first stay in Villa des Fleurs this year. It's a very well thought out and well-appointed villa - we particularly liked the open plan layout and the ease of being able to step out onto the sun terrace from the main living areas. The kitchen is up to date and everything you think you might need is there - It very much feels like you are visiting someone's home as a guest. The property is well set back from the road so it's quiet and peaceful up by the house and that's the main attraction for us of the area overall. It's a beautiful part of France to drive around and stop off in the villages when you want to explore, and there's a quiet base to come back to and watch the clouds come off the mountains.
We didn't use the pool much (too early in the year for anything other than a bracing dip!) but everything was in really good order and condition. Lynne was also very helpful about recommending some places to eat in the area that we hadn't tried before, and managed to get the wifi/tv working for us in short order too.
Our stay here was perfect! Villa des Fleurs is a superb holiday home in a beautiful, peaceful ,away-from-it-all location. The villa is very well equipped with everything you might possibly need, and the spacious and stylish but comfortable design make it a lovely place to relax and chill out. We enjoyed leisurely meals on the terrace with splendid views over lush greenery to the mountains beyond and watching the sun set there was a bonus. The pool is wonderful and very well maintained and the gardens are lovely – we were lucky that the figs on the tree by the terrace were just ripening so we gorged ourselves! Another bonus is excellent internet access which can be a problem in rural locations. It was great to have a warm welcome and an introduction to the house from Lynne who gave us all sorts of helpful insider tips on what to do and where to eat. Also to know that she lived not far away if we had problems (which we didn’t)! Oms is a pretty and interesting historical village with lots of good walks nearby and and there’s loads to explore further afield. The villa is so nice though that it’s tempting just to stay put and enjoy the pool! Our only regrets were that we never did see the wild boar that Lynne said were round and about, that we didn’t get round to that game of table tennis and that we couldn't stay longer!
