Updated in 2018, Sandown is a spacious and comfortable upside down house which offers the perfect location for a family or group of friends looking for a exceptionally well equipped holiday home. The main advantages to Sandown include each guest bedroom having its own private shower facilities and TV all being on the ground floor so not far to carry your luggage! The house has ample parking for up to 4 cars within the grounds. The kitchen & utility room are very equipped with most of the gadgets and cooking utensils you will find at home. And the relaxing lounge and dining room are located upstairs to take advantage of the mountain range views.

We are situated in a peaceful part of Bowness-on-Windermere in the heart of the English Lake District. Our location is on the main lake road just on the edge of the village so we are only a few minutes gentle stroll to Lake Windermere and all that Bowness village has to offer or Windermere is an easy 20 mins stroll up the road. We are dog friendly for one well behaved dog only, we offer free WI-FI and bed linen, TVs in all the bedrooms, 1 bath & hand towel pp, and bath mats. We also provide dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, tea towels and starter toilet rolls.

Despite our central location we have plenty of guest parking within our grounds. Please note the house can only accommodate 7 people plus baby maximum. We have 1 travel cot and high chair available.

Our changeover day is a Friday. Please note that the rates quoted are for a full 7 night week; the way the calendar is set up we are not able to overlap dates so the rates look like they are Fri to Thurs, which is 7 inclusive nights, so you would check in on a Friday at 4pm check out a week later on the Friday at 10am.

Windermere is the ideal base for The Lake District as it has excellent restaurants, specialist & boutique shops, tea shops, wine bars & old traditional English pubs. From The Pier you can enjoy a trip around Lake Windermere hopping on and off at the traditional villages or ride the Lakeside steam train. There are lots for the kids to do like fun farms, Go Ape, a zoo, the aquarium etc. Alternatively from our front door you are already only minutes away from breath-taking views and many beautiful scenic walks, hikes and bike rides. But if you fancy a change from all that you can go climbing, sailing, golfing, fishing, horse riding, off roading, clay pigeon shooting, quad biking or visit the many historic houses, safari parks, award winning gardens, the list goes on with something for all.

What makes this house unique

The house is in the perfect location in a quiet yet central position within the Windermere area only a 5 minute gentle stroll to Lake Windermere and a few minutes’ walk down to the village of Bowness (on the Lake) or 20 minutes walk up the hill to Windermere village.

All our guests rooms are located on the ground floor as as make the most of the mountains views from upstairs. Unlike many cottages in the area with a central location we still have private and secure parking for approx. 4 cars within our grounds.

And all our bedrooms have their own shower en suite so no queuing for the bathroom or the loo at any time! Plus all bedrooms have their own TV.

We offer free Wi-Fi, we are dog friendly and we have a small outside seating area to enjoy if you want to have a BBQ etc.

Just a quick note to say what a lovely time we've had at your house in Bowness. It was so welcoming to be greeted with such a beautiful Christmas Tree in that cosy lounge. My nephew, all of two years old, stood at the door and whispered 'Oh......mygod!' when he saw it. The view of the snow topped peaks from the kitchen window took my breath away & really impressed the kids. The house had all we needed for a much needed break. It was particularly important for us to make this year special, as last Christmas my daughter was diagnosed as Type 1 Diabetic & very poorly, spent 22nd until Boxing Day in hospital. Thank you so much for helping us to have some excellent family time

The house itself is strictly NO SMOKING as we have professional smoke detectors fitted in all rooms, but smoking is permitted in the grounds & car park. We are happy to accept a MAX. of 1 well behaved dog at anytime but we ask that they are not left unattended in the house (if you can put them in the car if you are going out without them) and also that they are not allowed to sleep IN or ON the beds or furniture. There are many good places to eat in the village and also out and about that you can take your dogs. We ask for a returnable £150 property damage or breakages deposit which would be returned no later than 10 days after check out date. This is for damage or breakages which would be discussed with you if relevant. If you have pets staying this also covers for any of our requested rules which have not been followed. Our changeover day is Friday. Please note that the rates quoted include 7 full nights. Ample parking for 4 cars and an area is set aside with a outside table, chairs and BBQ, see images. Bed linen, bath, hand towel & bath mats are provided. The house is cleaned on check out day; if you are staying more than 1 week and wish the house to be cleaned, please enquire (this will be chargeable). Towels provided; 1 bath & 1 hand per person. The Dining Room with large table easily accommodating 8 people. We have 1 x travel cot available you will require your own bedding and 1 high chair, please ask on enquiry/booking

Couldn't Have Been Better

The property was as shown, the owner very friendly and helpful (especially the welcome gift of wine & milk!!). We were four friends relaxing after a River Boat tour in France and the contrast between the two countries was delightful. The bus stop right at the front door provided our gateway to exploring the area and Beresford Restaurant right across the street was excellent food at most reasonable prices. A spacious house in a fantastic position!

We were a party of 6 with 2 teens and the house gave everyone their own space to relax when needed, as well as their own bathrooms. Upstairs the dining room and lounge had loads of seats so we could all hang out together. Within a moments walk we had the shops, restaurants, pubs and bars meaning we didn’t need to move he cars once we’d returned from a long day of walking. Really fantastic, we had such a comfortable stay and will be back in 2019!

new year holiday at sandown house

Very clean and well equipped property. All bedrooms are en-suite with very comfortable beds. It is well situated for all amenities, having lovely olde worlde pubs, restaurants and lots of shops to visit. We highly recommend staying at sandown house and would love to visit again.

Great Family Holiday

The house is in a great location just a short walk to everyhting you need. The kids called it an upside down house because the living areas are upstairs which worked really well for our group, especially as each bedroom has its own facilities!! The customer service we received was first class, great communication and really accomodating of our needs, a real pleasure to deal with!

Comfortable and convenient!

We had a lovely week staying at Sandown over Christmas. The property was clean and comfortable and is well situated for a short walk to the shops, restaurants and the lake as well stunning walks with the dog. Georgeene was very helpful and responded to enquiries promptly. The beautiful Christmas tree was a lovely festive bonus!
