Sandown is a spacious and comfortable upside down house which offers the perfect location for a family or group of friends looking for a exceptionally well equipped holiday home. The whole house was refurbished in 2011 so has been done to a high standard and with a modern feel. The main advantages to Sandown are the fact that each guest bedroom has private shower facilities and a TVs and all are on the ground floor so not far to carry your luggage! And the house has ample parking for up to 4 cars within the grounds. The kitchen is really equipped with most of the gadgets and cooking utensils you will find at home. And the relaxing lounge and dining room are located upstairs to take advantage of the mountain range views.

We are situated in a peaceful part of Bowness-on-Windermere in the heart of the English Lake District we are still only a few minutes gentle stroll to Lake Windermere and all that Bowness village has to offer. We are dog friendly for one well behaved dog only, we offer free WI-FI and bed linen, TVs in all the bedrooms, 1 bath & hand towel pp, and bath mats.

Despite our central location we have plenty of guest parking within our grounds.

Please note the house can only accommodate 7 people plus baby maximum. We have 1 travel cot and high chair available.

Our changeover day is a Friday. Please note that the rates quoted are for a full 7 night week; the way the calendar is set up we are not able to overlap dates so the rates look like they are Fri to Thurs, which is 7 inclusive nights, so you would check in on a Friday and check out a week later on the Friday.

Location location location

This was an excellent choice for our extended family holiday following a wedding reception at the Hydro. A 15 minute walk to Bowness pier passing a couple of small supermarkets on the way for groceries. There are also several good restaurants within a five minute walk.

The house was spotlessly clean when we arrived, was very well equipped and maintained. Georgeene was very helpful with enquiries and very pleasant to deal with.

No hesitation in recommending the house.

Wonderful Quiet Location

Wonderful quiet location, excellent facilities & lovely view, comfortable clean rooms with good standards and en Suite. Fantastic huge dinning-living room. It was our fist visit at Lake District and was thoroughly enjoyed.

Sandown House

We stayed at the Sandown for a week, we found the location ideal for exploring Bowness and Windermere. The house had everything we needed and all the rooms had their own bathrooms which was a bonus as there were 7 adults. Would definitely recommend.

Fab self catering New Year break

Sandown is a clean, comfortable and modern guest house which was ideally located having the beautiful lake Windermere and shops only a short walk away. Myself, husband and two young children and my friend and family spent 5 nights over new year. A lovely touch to welcome us was a hamper of biscuits and wine. It had onsite parking and ample kitchen utensils, spare quilts etc. Having booked almost a year in advance, Georgeene always responded promptly to email queries and left contact numbers during our stay for extra reassurance. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this wonderful guest house and would recommend to others.

Sandown House

Sandown House is ideally located for exploring the Lake District. The accommodation was very well equipped and it's upside down configuration made the most of the views from the upstairs windows (would not recommend for those with a mobility disability). The house is on a busy road and there is little outside space for BBQ etc. although there is a small park across the road where supervised children can play. The owners are located next door but do not intrude upon house guests but are there if needed. I would recommend Sandown as a base but would have liked more outside space around the property.

Owner's Response: Many thanks for your comments we are glad you found the house well equipped. Although there is a lot of outside space around the house it is not really landscaped as a garden as such as guests have always prized parking for multiple cars more important given our central location where off road parking is hard to find. But as you say there is a nice park directly opposite the house and a completely contained play park a few yards away to the rear of the house and Bowness is only a few minutes walk away which has a few parks and lots of outside space.

sandown house, bowness on windermere

This property is stunning, situated within a few minutes of bowness on windermere. There is plenty of parking and the house has everything you need and more. We spent a week here with family and 2 dogs and we were all impressed with the facilities and excellent location. There is plenty to do for all ages from beautiful walks to a boat trip on one of the many lakes. We would certainly recommend the house and hope to all return again soon.

Windermere is the ideal base for The Lake District as it has excellent restaurants, specialist & boutique shops, tea shops, wine bars & old traditional English pubs. From The Pier you can enjoy a trip around Lake Windermere hopping on and off at the traditional villages or ride the Lakeside steam train. There are lots for the kids to do like fun farms, Go Ape, a zoo, the aquarium etc. Alternatively from our front door you are already only minutes away from breath-taking views and many beautiful scenic walks, hikes and bike rides. But if you fancy a change from all that you can go climbing, sailing, golfing, fishing, horse riding, off roading, clay pigeon shooting, quad biking or visit the many historic houses, safari parks, award winning gardens, the list goes on with something for all.

The house is in the perfect location in a quiet yet central position within the Windermere area only a 5 minute gentle stroll to Lake Windermere and a few minutes’ walk down to the village of Bowness (on the Lake) or 20 minutes walk up the hill to Windermere village. All our guests rooms are located on the ground floor so no struggling with any luggage! Unlike many cottages with a central location we have private and secure parking for approx. 5 cars within our grounds. And all our bedrooms have their own shower en suite so no queuing for the bathroom or the loo at any time! Plus all bedrooms have their own TV. We have Sky and offer free Wi-Fi, we are dog friendly and we have an outside area to enjoy if you want to have a BBQ etc. We can also securely store bikes.

Notes:

  • The house itself is strictly NO SMOKING as we have professional smoke detectors fitted in all rooms, but smoking is permitted in the grounds & car park. We are happy to accept a MAX. of 1 well behaved dog at anytime but we ask that they are not left unattended in the house (if you can put them in the car if you are going out without them) and also that they are not allowed to sleep IN or ON the beds or furniture. There are many good places to eat in the village and also out and about that you can take your dogs. We ask for a returnable £300 property damage or breakages deposit which would be returned no later than 10 days after check out date. This is for damage or breakages which would be discussed with you if relevant. If you have pets staying this also covers for any of our requested rules which have not been followed. Our changeover day is Friday. Please note that the rates quoted include 7 full nights. Ample parking for 4 cars and an area is set aside with a outside table, chairs and BBQ, see images. Bed linen, bath, hand towel & bath mats are provided. The house is cleaned on check out day; if you are staying more than 1 week and wish the house to be cleaned, please enquire (this will be chargeable). Towels provided; 1 bath & 1 hand per person. The Dining Room with large table easily accommodating 8 people. We have 1 x travel cot available you will require your own bedding and 1 high chair, please ask on enquiry/booking.
