Wet but wonderful

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely week at this beautiful cottage in Vennington. The weather was terrible but the welcome from the owner Rosemary was warm and the cottage cosy, comfortable and very clean. We were able to relax and got around to see plenty of places in Shropshire and over the border to Powys. I would thoroughly recommend a stay in this cottage, and for us trying to find places to visit to stay out of the rain became a game, but there are many and varied things to do and places to visit in the surrounding area.

Little gem in Shropshire

  • 5 of 5

Beautifully restored cottage retaining plenty of charm but with all the mod cons. It was a perfect place to explore both Shropshire and parts of Wales. We enjoyed various days out with two boys aged 12 and 9. Rosemary was a perfect host and there were plenty of helpful leaflets in the cottage to help us make the most of our time. Shropshire is a beautiful county!

Beautiful retreat! Home from home! +++++

  • 5 of 5

My partner and I stayed in Old Mill Cottage June 2015 for 10 days and had an amazing time!

The cottage itself is beautiful with original features such as exposed beams, original brickwork and quaint little windows. Highly recommend a bubble bath! :) The place was clean and clutter free when we arrived with some lovely touches such as the fresh flowers and homemade lemon cake - delicious! Downstairs the kitchen diner is a nice size, fully stocked and ready to cook in - making it feel like home from home! The front room is where we spent the most time and is perfect for snuggling up to watch movies, staring at the log fire and reading books looking out of the large windows to the garden. There's a handy utility area too if you fancy doing your washing / ironing whilst there. The master bedroom has an en-suite and there is another bathroom opposite the second bedroom - all great sizes. There is also a private garden area for you to sit at and look out to the field with the sheep - if you're lucky the local cat may show up!

The location of the cottage was great for us - out in the sticks! You get no signal unless up in the top bathroom, therefore a great place to retreat to and switch off from the world! There is free Wi-Fi though, so you can be contacted in case of emergencies. The nearest shop is approximately 15 minute drive over the border into Wales or the same in the other direction to a small Co-Op. Rosemary was very helpful and will let you know where to go. There are things to do locally; one day we visited Powis Castle which was lovely, the gardens are amazing and another day we walked from the cottage up the bridle path however our map reading skills were something to be desired and ended up getting lost! Haha. There was a huge box of leaflets with other local attractions, walking maps etc. so no doubt something for everyone.

Rosemary was a fantastic host making us feel very welcome right from the start. She was helpful when we had any questions, was quick to respond and very professional. Thank you so much for lettings us come and stay in your beautiful cottage - we will be back for sure!
