A beautiful traditional 'mas' style architecture house built to the owners high specification in 2000. The house is set among ancient olive trees in 2,500 sq. metre garden, situated in a quiet lane at the top of Valbonne village. Key features include fantail french windows opening on to the south facing terrance and onto the pool; hand-made oak country style kitchen; decor Provence colours throughout the property.
I was relocated to Sophia Antipolis (Valbonne) in the autumn of 1997, working for an American IT company. My wife, Gay and son James immediately fell in love with Valbonne. James attended the CIV, international school and Gay started a concierge service for villa owners. During our 20 years living on the Cote d'Azur we are now regarded as locals and this year we took the decision to offer our home for the summer season. We hope that our guests will have a memorable holiday.
Derek Arnold purchased this villa in 1998
After a year of renting a house we decided in the autumn of 1998 to purchase a plot of land and build a villa to our own specification. Two years later in 2000 we finally moved in and have no regrets at all. What we really like about the area is that we have the best of both worlds; the sea and the mountains, and not least the wonderful warm climate all the year round. Nice international airport is a good hub for the international business traveller, or coming here to holiday.Quality of life has become more important as we become older.
The key benefit we enjoy is living in a quiet lane but just a few minutes walk to Valbonne village. The fact that we do not need to drive to the local shops or restaurants in the Village is a real bonus.
We spent a perfect week in this beautiful house. The pictures do not do the house justice. It is even more delightful than it looks and incredibly well equipped. We cooked at home most nights and there's not a utensil or appliance found wanting. Derek and Gaye are lovely hosts and have thought of everything. They are also charming and informative guides to the local area and couldn't be more helpful. The pool was checked and cleaned each morning in a friendly but unobtrusive way. The location is perfect peaceful, halfway between the beaches and the mountains and exactly 10 minutes walk from the charming village of Valbonne. It is just a short drive from numerous picturesque perched villages. The children loved it and we will definitely return. Thank you Derek and Gaye
We had a lovely week in this house. Everything there that we could have wanted and needed. We felt immediately relaxed and at home. Derek and Gay could not have been more delightful, helpful and friendly. A perfect peaceful situation but not remote and just a few minutes from all of the nearby beautiful villages and towns in the area. I would definitely think about returning again soon.
This is a wonderful villa in a great location - private and quiet once through the villa gates, but only a short walk into the lovely village of Valbonne - good choice of restaurants & small shops to browse and great market on a Friday. If you don't fancy the walk, there is ample free parking available. What really makes this villa stand out from others we have stayed in is that it is extremely well furnished and equipped, even down to basic kitchen supplies, pool towels and mosquito repellants in the bedrooms. Derek and Gay are perfect hosts - very responsive to queries before our visit & saw them on a daily basis when they popped in to clean the pool etc - not intrusive, but good to be able to chat through where to visit etc. This really felt like a home from home - perfect for a relaxing holiday with many good places to visit within about half hours drive; Antibes, Nice & Cannes.
We stayed at this beautiful villa set in the lovely village of Valbonne. The villa was just perfect. i can't say any negatives about it. The owners who were lovely and so helpful catered for all our needs - they have thought of everything you might need. The village itself is just a short walk away max 10 minutes - where it has lovely restaurants and shops. We will definitely stay again and highly recommend it. We had a great holiday. Thanks.
The villa is furnished in keeping with a Provencal style and is very comfortable and clean with everything you need for your stay. We were looking for a restful holiday and this property provided just that. We spent most of our time outside, dipping in and out of the pool and relaxing in the lovely surroundings. The outdoor sofas were great for sitting out in the evening and enjoying a glass of Rose and the dining table under cover was a welcome relief from the sun when needed.
There are plenty of good restaurants in the village along with all you need for self catering - boulangerie, delicatessen, butchers and greengrocers, all of exceptional quality. Although pricier than a supermarket, we felt it was worth the cost to enjoy such good quality and to be able to avoid using up our precious holiday time queuing in supermarkets. The Friday market in Valbonne is well worth a visit but go early as it gets very busy.
We did do one trip out to Antibes but much preferred Valbonne and were happy to get back!
Whilst we chose not to have a car for this trip and enjoyed the walk to and from the village, we recognised that the walk back may be challenging for some especially when you factor in the heat.
The owners were extremely helpful before and during our trip. Derek was kind enough to sort out our taxi rides from/to the airport and rejigged arrangements when our plane landed several hours later than planned - Thank you Derek. The pool was checked early each morning and the owners were only a text away if you needed anything but otherwise they were unobtrusive.
If you are looking for a relaxing break with good food and restaurants within walking distance, this is an excellent place to stay.
