Detached converted barn in St Levan, near Porthcurno, Cornwall, England. Quiet location, just over 1 mile To Porthcurno Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in Britain, and the famous Minack Theatre overlooking the cliffs and the sea. 3 miles from Lands End. Sleeps 2 - 5. About 8 miles from Penzance and 17 miles from St Ives. Convenient for the South West Coast Path National Trail with stunning coastal walks and views.

About Jonathan Lovett

We bought Kernyk in 1998 as an unconverted barn and converted it to a delightful holiday cottage which our family and friends have used ever since. In preparation for letting the property to guests, we have re-decorated, replaced much of the furniture, curtains, tableware and cutlery and purchased new cotton bed linen and towels. We live in East Sussex, quite a distance from Cornwall, but have engaged a local company to manage the property on our behalf and to respond to any issues that may arise.

Why Jonathan Lovett chose Saint Levan

Cornwall is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places in Britain and we had many holidays there prior to buying and converting Kernyk. It is quite a journey to get there but once there, it is delightful place to be. We've never seen Portcurno beach full even during the peak summer period but it can get busy. But other beaches such as Porth Chapel and Nanjeezal are never full and there are so many beautiful places to visit by car or by foot that one can always find somewhere peaceful to be.

Living room has a double sofabed and a single chair that can convert to a single bed, however with both sofabed and chair in use, the room would be somewhat crowded.

Notes:
Outside: A five-bar gate provides access from the road to the garden and house. The garden is fenced but most dogs could jump the fence. There is a gravelled area for parking and for outside dining, a small area of lawn and a concreted area with clothes line. An outside table and chairs are provided. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen and towels are provided and changed weekly. Cleaning is also weekly.

A great stay in a perfect cottage

The barn/cottage was excellent for us. It was cosy and very comfotable (best bed on our trip). We used eveything except the log/coal burner. The washer worked well and we went off with clean clothes! The combi microwave did everthing from take aways - used oven and micro function- to doing porridge and cooking jacket spuds. We ate out at some excellent retaurants, loved being near the Minack theatre and the Cable Telegraph museum. We are walkers and the off road footpaths were waterlogged, so we used the car and then walked. Happy to say the weather was mostly very good.

Small but adequate for 2 and a dog

This cottage is perfectly positioned for Lands End and Minack Theatre plus numerous other places of interest. In a small quiet village it provided a great place for our stay. Small welcome tray on arrival plus fuel for the fire which was needed that first night when arriving in the pouring rain after a 4.5 hour drive. Lovely pub just up the road with a beer garden which we ate in a couple of times called Logans Rock. Would stay again if we were visiting this part of Cornwall.

Coast/Beach:

Just over a mile, or 20 minutes walk, from Porthcurno Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in Britain. Other nearby beaches include Portchapel (2 miles), Nanjizal (2 miles) and Sennen Cove (3 miles). Sennen Cove faces west to the Atlantic and is renowned for surfing. All of these beaches have golden sands. Pednvounder, a short coastal walk from Porthcurno, and Porth Kidney at Lelant, near St Ives, are both clothing-optional beaches.

Travel:

The nearest airport is Newquay (41 miles away), rail access would be to Penzance (8 miles away) and then a taxi or bus ride.

A car is recommended. The nearest shops are in Sennen and St Buryan (both approx 3 miles) and there is a pub in Porthcurno. Taxis and infrequent buses are available.

Further Details:

There are four supermarkets and the full high-street range of shops in Penzance as well as restaurants. There are other restaurants and pubs serving food at Treen, Sennen and St Just. Further afield there are many gourmet restaurants in St Ives.
