About Jonathan Lovett

We bought Kernyk in 1998 as an unconverted barn and converted it to a delightful holiday cottage which our family and friends have used ever since. In preparation for letting the property to guests, we have re-decorated, replaced much of the furniture, curtains, tableware and cutlery and purchased new cotton bed linen and towels. We live in East Sussex, quite a distance from Cornwall, but have engaged a local company to manage the property on our behalf and to respond to any issues that may arise.

Jonathan Lovett purchased this cottage in 1998

Why Jonathan Lovett chose South West Cornwall

Cornwall is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places in Britain and we had many holidays there prior to buying and converting Kernyk. It is quite a journey to get there but once there, it is delightful place to be. We've never seen Portcurno beach full even during the peak summer period but it can get busy. But other beaches such as Porth Chapel and Nanjeezal are never full and there are so many beautiful places to visit by car or by foot that one can always find somewhere peaceful to be.

What makes this cottage unique

Small but adequate for 2 and a dog

  • 4 of 5

This cottage is perfectly positioned for Lands End and Minack Theatre plus numerous other places of interest. In a small quiet village it provided a great place for our stay. Small welcome tray on arrival plus fuel for the fire which was needed that first night when arriving in the pouring rain after a 4.5 hour drive. Lovely pub just up the road with a beer garden which we ate in a couple of times called Logans Rock. Would stay again if we were visiting this part of Cornwall.

A lovely cottage in a quiet and peaceful setting.

  • 5 of 5

It was lovely to be welcomed by complimentary biscuits, milk in the fridge from a nearby farm and a bag of the locally ground coffee. The cottage was very clean, bright and comfortable. It was also well equipped for a self-catering week. As walkers, we loved the fact that we could walk straight from the cottage and many other great walks were just a quick drive away. To top it all we were very close to Lands End and the Minack Theatre which are two 'must-see' highlights of the area. We would highly recommend staying here.

Quiet, cosy and comfortable. Really close to beautiful beaches. Lovely place to stay.

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely stay in this cosy barn conversion. Kernyk is in a great position: so close to Porthcurno beach, Lands End and Sennen Cove. It was warm, comfortable, quiet and peaceful. It was good to arrive after a long drive and have tea, coffee, milk and biscuits provided We would definitely recommend a stay here.

Stunning little cottage that was bigger than I thought it would be.

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is beautiful, homely and in the perfect location for us. It was clean and quiet and ideal for walking the dogs at Porthcurno beach every day. I'd highly recommend popping into the telegraph museum while you're there too. It was fantastic.

The only major downsides for me was that there is no oven, just a convector microwave. Also the shower runs off the immersion heater so be careful.

We had a fantastic week though and Jonathan couldn't have been lovelier.

Really nice holidays

  • 4 of 5

We (47, 17, 17, 14) had very fine days in Cornwall and in the cottage. We found everything as expected, the cottage has even in autumn a friendly atmosphere and Jonathan gave all informations quite soon and sufficient! It was helpful for us to get the key before arrival, so that we had been free to be there late in the evening and have some nice stops during the long trip from Germany.Thank you!
