About the Owner

We bought Kernyk in 1998 as an unconverted barn and converted it to a delightful holiday cottage which our family and friends have used ever since. In preparation for letting the property to guests, we have re-decorated, replaced much of the furniture, curtains, tableware and cutlery and purchased new cotton bed linen and towels. We live in East Sussex, quite a distance from Cornwall, but have engaged a local company to manage the property on our behalf and to respond to any issues that may arise.

What was particularly good about Kernyk: Easy access to main roads. Beaches within walking distance. Small things like washing up liquid and milk provided

Stunning little cottage that was bigger than I thought it would be.

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is beautiful, homely and in the perfect location for us. It was clean and quiet and ideal for walking the dogs at Porthcurno beach every day. I'd highly recommend popping into the telegraph museum while you're there too. It was fantastic.

The only major downsides for me was that there is no oven, just a convector microwave. Also the shower runs off the immersion heater so be careful.

We had a fantastic week though and Jonathan couldn't have been lovelier.

Really nice holidays

  • 4 of 5

We (47, 17, 17, 14) had very fine days in Cornwall and in the cottage. We found everything as expected, the cottage has even in autumn a friendly atmosphere and Jonathan gave all informations quite soon and sufficient! It was helpful for us to get the key before arrival, so that we had been free to be there late in the evening and have some nice stops during the long trip from Germany.Thank you!

There is not a lot I can say that hasn't already been said.

The cottage is very nice with all the comforts of home, it's just what you need for a peaceful break.

I would highly recommend.

Good Value For money

  • 4 of 5

We had a very good holiday when we visited recently everything was as expected and we were very pleased with the cottage KERNYK in a small village called St. Levan. There wasn't much to see or do in the close vicinity of the cottage, and you needed a car to get to most places.

The cottage had everything you could need to enjoy your stay and there were some nice little touches arranged for when we arrived, such as fresh flowers, some nice biscuits and more than anything some fresh milk. I would only have one thing that would have made it better and that would be if I went down to Cornwall again I would pick somewhere with more going on with more to look at and a (nice ) pub in walking distance.

Owner's Response: Kernyk is located in a quiet area however it is within 20 minutes walking distance of Porthcurno (which has a pub), the Minack theatre and the coastal path. As well, of course, the rather special Porthcurno beach.

Close to beautiful beach

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely time. The cottage is close to porthcurno which has a lovely beach and great coastal walks not forgetting the outdoor theatre. The telegraph museum is also worth a visit - we have a young daughter and she loved it too.

It's also not far to Lands End or sennan cove (which is great for surfing and body boarding!)

The cottage, if honest, is a bit small for 5 people but we were only 3 so that was ok and the sofa bed was a bit uncomfortable but otherwise it was fine and had everything we needed. Compared to most cottages I looked at, it was good value and I have to say that Jonathan, the owner, was very quick to respond to my messages and the booking ran really smoothly. Thanks Jonathan for that!

Lovely cosy cottage well situated

  • 5 of 5

Cottage was well maintained and had enough room to sleep all our family comfortably(2 adults,2 kids) despite only having a single bedroom as living room had sofa beds. The kitchen had everything you needed to cook and serve meals, and tv in living room was nice for evening relaxation along with wifi(which is a godsend as reception isn't great in this area),lovely tea/coffee welcome spread, and near to porthcurno beach, pub and the minack theatre.the burner made it particularly cosy in the evenings, but great that it was centrally heated too!!

Location

From the Owner

Cornwall is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places in Britain and we had many holidays there prior to buying and converting Kernyk. It is quite a journey to get there but once there, it is delightful place to be. We've never seen Portcurno beach full even during the peak summer period but it can get busy. But other beaches such as Porth Chapel and Nanjeezal are never full and there are so many beautiful places to visit by car or by foot that one can always find somewhere peaceful to be.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Newquay at 41 Miles Nearest Train : Penzance at 8 Miles Nearest Beach : Porthcurno at 1.1 Miles

Coast/Beach:

Just over a mile, or 20 minutes walk, from Porthcurno Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in Britain. Other nearby beaches include Portchapel (2 miles), Nanjizal (2 miles) and Sennen Cove (3 miles). Sennen Cove faces west to the Atlantic and is renowned for surfing. All of these beaches have golden sands. Pednvounder, a short coastal walk from Porthcurno, and Porth Kidney at Lelant, near St Ives, are both clothing-optional beaches.

Travel:

The nearest airport is Newquay (41 miles away), rail access would be to Penzance (8 miles away) and then a taxi or bus ride.

A car is recommended. The nearest shops are in Sennen and St Buryan (both approx 3 miles) and there is a pub in Porthcurno. Taxis and infrequent buses are available.

Further Details:

There are four supermarkets and the full high-street range of shops in Penzance as well as restaurants. There are other restaurants and pubs serving food at Treen, Sennen and St Just. Further afield there are many gourmet restaurants in St Ives.
