Cottage in Bothenhampton, near Bridport, Dorset, England - The Perfect Base To Explore All The Jurassic Coast Has To Offer. Located Just Outside Bridport.

Tilly's cottage was sympathetically rebuilt in the early 1990's from an old barn, using much of the original stone. The upside down layout makes the most of the views, with the vaulted ceilings being a feature in the upstairs living area. Tilly's is a unique and quirky semi-detached property, ideally situated in a quiet location, tucked away from the road. Bridport is within easy walking distance, as is the Jurassic coast at West Bay. The no through lane that Tilly's cottage sits on leads to a nature reserve. The nearest shop and pub are only half a mile away, whilst the beach at West Bay is just 1.4 miles from the property. This light and airy cottage briefly comprises of a large open plan kitchen/diner, a spacious living room, a WC, a double bedroom with en-suite shower room, a family bathroom and a twin bedroom. A secluded walled and gated patio is located to the rear of the property. One well behaved dog is permitted at a small charge of £25 to cover additional cleaning.

Hi, my name is Sue. Having owned a mobile home a couple of miles outside Bridport for several years, where my family and I have enjoyed many holidays, we have all grown to love the surrounding area and everything it has to offer.

When my dear Mum passed away, it was decided to invest her estate in a property which we and various offspring could enjoy for years to come. When not being used by ourselves, it seemed to make sense to make it available as a holiday let.

This area of West Dorset has a magical mix of beautiful countryside and the stunning Jurassic coast. The pace of life is noticeably quieter and encourages you to instantly relax. The walking and fishing is excellent and if you enjoy eating seafood it doesn’t get much fresher!

The vibrant market town of Bridport has a charm of its own. Many an hour can be spent wandering around the twice weekly markets, stopping perhaps in the quaintly named Bucky Doo Square for a coffee to enjoy the entertainment which frequently takes place, or simply take the opportunity to “people watch”.

Places such as Weymouth, Dorchester, Lyme Regis and Abbotsbury are an easy journey away. Most can be accessed by the regular bus service which runs along the coast road, offering stunning views from the top deck

What makes this cottage unique

Tilly’s Cottage is situated in a quiet village location. Bridport is an easy walk away, as is the Jurassic coast at West Bay. The no through lane on which the cottage is situated leads to a nature reserve.

Tilly’s was sympathetically rebuilt in the early ‘90s from an old barn, using much of the original stone. It successfully combines some of the barn’s original features with the benefits of modern building construction. The thick walls incorporate stonework from the original flooring of the barn, worn smooth over the years by the shod feet of working horses. The upside down layout makes the most of the views with the vaulted ceilings being a feature in the upstairs living area. Together with the adjoining property (also part of the original barn), Tilly’s is a unique, quirky property.

Outside: To the rear of the cottage there are two designated off street parking spaces. Tilly's cottage boasts a secluded walled and gated patio area - perfect for small children or a family dog. A table and chairs for four people is provided. There is a designated BBQ area. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bath towels and bed linen are provided. A maid service is not available. Guests will need to provide their own beach towels. When booking please advise how many beds will be required to enable the second bedroom to be prepared correctly. Other: WiFi is available at the cottage. The dining area provides a table and chairs for four people. A highchair, stair gate and travel cot are available on request. An efficient central heating system keeps the cottage warm during the colder months.

Excellent facilities and perfect location

Had a very enjoyable stay in Tilly's cottage. Location was perfect for either a walk into Bridport, West Bay, or for the coastal path walks. It was a quiet village location but with easy access to a large supermarket and petrol station. The south facing courtyard garden was perfect to sit and relax and catch the sun at any time of day. Communications with Claire were easy and helpful and the security deposit was refunded in good time. Thank you for the tea/coffee/milk on arrival - it was a lovely touch and a lifesaver after a long journey combined with a day of sightseeing before arriving!

Would definitely recommend!

Had a lovely weeks stays in Tilly's Cottage, loved the quirkiness of it being 'upside down', lovely views over the fields from the lounge area, very clean and everything you needed, the cottage was larger than expected and having a secured patio area for the dog was great. The location of the cottage was ideal for exploring the Jurassic coastline, Few minutes walk to the local shops in Bridport was great and a 20 minute walk to West Bay in the evenings to have fish and chips or an ice cream overlooking the sea was fantastic, we were very lucky with the weather!, Would recommend a visit to Lulworth Cove, make sure you try the homemade fudge in the local shop there and if your feeling energetic the walk to Durdle Door is a must, Weymouth was worth a visit which was about a 40 minute drive away on the coastal road with lovely views. We would highly recommended the cottage and if we decide to visit the area in the future would most definitely return. Thank you Claire for the excellent customer service you gave and for giving us a great holiday to remember.

Great cottage in peaceful location

We booked Tilly's cottage as a late 4 night break. Owner was on holiday but her mother was very helpful and organised. The cottage is very well equipped and ideally located for exploring the Jurassic trail. Very large kitchen dining area and great lounge (both located upstairs). We had our cocker spaniel with us and garden area completely secure. On arrival cottage had been cleaned and description matched website info. The village of Bothenhampton is 5 minutes from Bridport which has all the facilities you would expect with Morrisons supermarket either a 2 minute drive or 10 minute walk. Great area for exploring Dorset countryside or coastal walks. We dined at West Bay Hotel one evening and highly recommended. Thank you Claire for providing us (and Alfie) with a great holiday cottage.

Great cottage in a perfect location

We have had the most relaxing week in this lovely cottage. The living accommodation is spacious with vaulted ceilings in the lounge and kitchen/diner. The cottage is well equipped throughout, very clean and tidy. The garden (south facing) is a lovely suntrap. We used the guide books and maps available in the cottage, walks literally from the doorstep to Burton Bradstock and beyond, A walk to West Bay, along the old railway line takes approx.10 mins. good choice of pubs, cafes and take-aways around the harbour. There is a pub closer if you really don't feel like the stroll, which served food 12 - 9pm. Morrisons is just down the road and Bridport is under 10 minutes walk away. The beaches around West Bay are vast, great walks with our dog, spectacular views from the cliff walks. I would certainly recommend to family and friends and we also hope to return to Tillys and this lovely part of the world, you really are within easy reach of everywhere plus amenities. Easy to book with the owner being very quick with replys to my booking and refunding the security deposit. A great service all around.

Fossil Hunting - The Jurassic Coastline is the most popular area in the UK to collect fossils. The coastline erodes rapidly resulting in fossils being fed onto the beaches. Ammonites are the most common find in Dorset, although there has been the exciting find of an Ichthyosaur near Charmouth recently. Guided fossil hunting walks are available from the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre and the Lyme Regis Museum. Just east of Lulworth Cove is the extraordinary ancient fossil forest and in this area dinosaur footprints and trackways have been discovered.


It is an easy walk to the Beach and coastal path at West Bay 1.4 miles away. West Bay is a quaint harbour, which recently shot to fame as the setting for TV drama, Broad church. The pebble beach is located at the foot of the Jurassic Coast cliffs and coastal path. Surrounding the harbour area are a variety of food stalls, pubs, restaurants and the River Brit. It is possible to book fishing trips at the harbour.


The nearest airport is Exeter at 35 miles, whilst Bournemouth airport is less than 50 miles away.

The ferry port at Weymouth is 20 miles away.

The Jurassic Coast bus service runs from Exeter to Poole, stopping in Bridport enroute.

Although there is plenty to see and do, both on foot and by car, a car is recommended to fully explore the region.


Tilly's cottage is located in Bothenhampton, just half a mile from Bridport's bustling centre.

Lyme Regis is 11 miles, Weymouth is 20 miles and Dorchester is 15 miles.

Further Details:

There are a number of shops, pubs, restaurants and other amenities in the market town of Bridport. A large Morrisons supermarket is just 0.3 miles away.

Booking Notes:
Once specific dates have been requested the property will be held for five days. On receipt of the £200 security deposit and signed contract the booking will be considered confirmed. A payment of 50% of the full rental fee will be due 60 days prior to arrival and the final instalment of the remaining 50% of the fee will be due 14 days prior to arrival. Providing there is no damage the security deposit will be refunded on departure. Payments can be made by personal cheque or bank transfer.

Changeover Day:
Saturday (please contact owner to request alternative day), minimum stay 3 nights. A short break in low season can be booked at any time. Short Breaks during peak times may only be booked within two weeks of the required dates.

Notes on prices:
A three night weekend stay or four night weekday stay will be charged at 65% of the full weeks rate for that period.
