About the property

Farmhouse in Mont De Marrast, Nr. Mielan, Gers, Midi-Pyrenees, France - Rural Farming Area Surrounded by Beautiful Bastide Villages. Just Over an Hour to the Pyrenees

The house is in the peaceful village of Mont de Marrast. It is very secluded and has plenty of space in the house and the garden to spread out.Up to 14 people can dine comfortably in the kitchen,or loggia or the stone terrace leading off the kitchen.The terrace overlooks the pond,orchard and rose garden. The pool is on the south facing side of the house with views to the Pyrenees. The tennis court is not visible from the house but is just through the orchard. All three drawing rooms have wood-burning stoves and for the winter months there is central heating too.It is a fantastic area for walking and cycling as the roads are so quiet. The area is known for its duck, foie gras armagnac and of course wine. A chef who stayed here told us it is the best equipped kitchen he has been in!

We bought this house originally as a second home but loved being here so much we decided to spend more time here and less in England and Hong Kong.We have 4 children now aged 23 to 32 who just love the house.

Why Jackie Fiducia chose Gers

It is a very beautiful rural area with far far fewer people than England.The weather is seasonal but summer arrives in March and continues until the end of October.The winter can be cold but we have eaten lunch outside on Christmas day.The views of the mountains,seen much more often in the winter,are so uplifting.Our family wanted sun,tennis and a pool and ski-ing so this was the perfect area

What makes this farmhouse unique

If we have friends or family here there is so much to do without leaving the house.With all the sporting activities those who are energetic are happy and there is so much space and opportunity for relaxing too.The food is local and fresh and the wine excellent.

We find the journey from Gatwick to Toulouse very quick and easy. Easyjet are a great airline and very rarely late

Notes on accommodation: Children are very welcome but there is an unfenced pond near the house so not suitable for very young ones.The pool is alarmed but not fenced Outside: The garden is 1.27 hectares.The approach is through stone pillars up a gravel drive to the car port.The entrance is through an arch to the gravel courtyard.In spring this is full of iris followed by the roses. The large terrace with seating for 14 is shaded by a spreading Catalpa.The French doors from the kitchen lead on to the terrace and from there are views of the pond,orchard,rose garden and to the hills beyond.Through a doorway next to the barn is the loggia which faces south looking down a lavender path to the pool which is 12 x 6 metres and can be floodlit at night. The gas BBQ is on the terrace just by the loggia. There are many different corners with benches and seating in sun or shade. The croquet lawn is visible from the pool and beyond the orchard is the tennis court.There are plenty of loungers by the pool and for those wishing to be more active there are some bikes.An open outbuilding houses the table tennis and the table football.2 Boule sets available Utility Room: Washing machine,tumble dryer,Belfast sink,loo,shower,iron,ironing board Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels,including pool towels,and linens are included.They are changed at the beginning and end. At an extra cost they can be changed during the stay. The property is cleaned at the beginning and end of a stay. Extra cleaning can be arranged at extra cost. Other: Studio kitchen: Rayburn,electric oven and hob,dishwasher,fridge,table and chairs for 6 Barn: utility room: washing machine,sink and loo Loggia: large table seating 14,dishwasher,fridge,sink,sideboard,cutlery,crockery and pool glasses
