Farmhouse In Priero, Piedmont With Private Pool And Amazing Views

Overview

Property

Updated: 23-Nov-2016
Farmhouse in Priero, Nr. Cuneo, Piedmont, Italy - Beautiful Restored Farmhouse With 5 Bedrooms And Private Pool

Cascina Garassino is a beautifully restored Piemonte farmhouse on 3 floors, with a biological pool set in extensive grounds on a south-facing hillside in its own valley among the Piemonte hills. It is very private yet close to the main Turin/Savona motorway, with many beautiful villages and towns in the area, the closest of which are the mediaeval village of Priero and the Roman horse-changing town of Ceva. We have endeavoured to make the house as environmentally sensitive as possible and have chosen energy-efficient consumables wherever possible, in addition to powering the house with photovoltaic panels which are on the stable roof. Priero, less than a kilometre away, has a stunning tower and church, a totally unspoilt village centre with arched walkways along the cobbled high-street, a tennis court, a general shop, a café, a good restaurant and, most popular of all with our family, a pizzeria which serves the best (and most reasonably priced!) pizzas we have ever had.

About the Owner

We bought this beautiful, if very run-down, house in 2007 since we wanted a property with lots of space, both inside and outside, as a weekend and holiday home for our large family. We regularly have more than 15 people staying at the house and have designed everything to be easy to cater for such large numbers. There is enormous seating capacity in the kitchen and dining room and under the pergola (where we eat most of the time in the summer months since the weather is mostly hot and sunny).

Magical spot in Piedmont

  • 5 of 5

We recently returned from an amazing stay at this beautiful property and can't recommend it highly enough. It is a relatively remote spot just outside of a tiny village in the southern part of Piedmont. The house itself is lovely with beautiful grounds, horses in a large pasture just adjacent, and a fantastic pool. The nearest town, Ceva, has everything you will need for your stay. It is a short drive to the coast or the city of Genoa, which has an amazing aquarium that the kids loved. We explored in every direction- from Turin, Alba and Asti all the way to Lucca. It is a great location to base your travels from to explore this side of Italy. But by the end of our trip we just wanted to stay at the house and enjoy the peace and beauty of this special spot.

Tim was incredibly hospitable and a great help with everything- he even lined up a babysitter for us and dinner reservations- we felt extremely well cared for and look forward to our next trip.

Fabulous house!

  • 5 of 5

Where to start? We had the most fantastic families holiday in Tim and Candida's wonderful house. We were two families with 5 kids under 7 between us, and it was a total dream destination and layout. Such attention to detail in what the property provides! We're airbnb/ownersdirect pros so know what we need, and this house really delivered. The pool (and sunbeds) were fab, the master bedroom (for whoever is lucky enough to have it) provides views of the valley that are second to none, there is an orchard behind the house that has all manner of fruits and nuts, and a steep meadow to climb if you need a bit of an escape. You can walk to a world-class pizzeria in Priero, as well as a great little bar, but the house also has the pretence of complete isolation. The kitchen is brilliantly equipped (we cooked at home a lot!) but there are plenty of great restaurants in the nearby towns. We did several great daytrips to some stunning beaches too (though get there early - parking is a NIGHTMARE!) and oh my Barolo! A day out we'll never forget.

Tim gave us a thorough tour when we first arrived and made it clear he'd be very reachable if we needed him for anything. He booked horseriding for the kids with the guys at the bottom of the hill, and we felt very looked after.

Don't hesitate! It's an absolute gem of a property. We really hope to be back some day!

Italian Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

After a long car trip from the UK it was a joy to discover that Tim and Candida's Italian home really did live up to and exceed expectations. As a group of nine it's great to be able to spend time together and also to sometimes find a quiet spot for an hour or two - it was easy to do both here. The pool was a great success with children and adults alike and the hammock came in for some considerable use for lazy afternoons. Priero , only a walk away provides a couple of opportunities for some authentic Italian dining and we certainly enjoyed our meals there.

All in all a super holiday was had by all thanks to a great base for exploring this region of Italy. Finally thanks again to Tim and Candida for their welcome and extensive assistance with a motoring problem encountered during our stay.

The perfect springboard to Piemont

  • 5 of 5

Tim and Candida's house was absolutely lovely - and exactly what 3 families with toddlers were looking for. Lots of space, beautifully done, tons of interesting things on the property for the children. Tim was responsive and helpful throughout. Definitely recommended.

Perfect!!

  • 5 of 5

We visited as two families with children ranging from 2 to 15 years. Candida and Tim could not have been more accommodating and welcomed us so very warmly before leaving us peacefully to revil in the luxury and tranquility of our holiday - as much as five children allow anyway! The house was more beautiful than we could have imagined with fantastic attention to detail which always makes a holiday so much easier. There is ample space and facility and there was nothing missing that we needed anyway. The pool is amazing, so nice to think that it is naturally clean without all those nasty chemicals!!! Candida and Tim were also a fantastic help ŵith local knowledge and information, enabling us to get the most from the special area we were in. I have always dreamt of completing a renovation project myself with aspirations of this high standard. The difference is that these guys have done it, empatheticly and respectfully whilst retaining a beautiful standard. Getting this right is a gift which we are extremely grateful to have been allowed to borrow/enjoy/share. Thanks for a great summer 2014 holiday.

Privileged in Paradise

  • 5 of 5

My party of seven world-traveller adults and three children found this magnificent house, set in such superb rural beauty, easily provided the best 'Italian holiday' experience we could ever have hoped for.

The talented and gracious owners, have created a genuinely unique and beautiful atmosphere of immense comfort with a diversity of living and playing/relaxing spaces so well designed that they enhance the natural beauty of each area. As with the gardens and surrounding hazelnut woods where secret pockets of amazing tranquility wait in patient welcome. Some of us somewhat jaded travelers found that we were almost involuntarily meditating as we breathed in the fragrantly pure air.

In the shade of bountiful fruit trees teenagers were actually seen to be reading books, or happily playing on the lawns and terraces.

Everyone adored the ecological swimming pool, which is possibly unique in any rental property in the world; it is a marvel and I am sure rejuvenating.

So many exceptional qualities in this stunning rental brought my friends and family back to a sheer joy of living, back to a positive delight in heightened perceptions of taste, sight and a sense of peace. An environment and atmosphere that I noticed was adaptable to each individual's creativity and personal taste.

Trying to round up contented, happily occupied and gratefully lazy people to explore the many historic and natural attractions close to the house was somewhat like pulling teeth...nobody really wanted to leave the pleasures of the terrace, pool, comfort of the rooms and the general sense of well-being 'at home'.

The 'at home' feeling was very important to all of us.

Having rented luxurious properties in various countries, including South Africa, Cornwall, New York, Galapagos and Spain, I never felt that any house, villa or flat fulfilled every promise, and more, as this one does.

That instant, and enduring, sense of charm and well-being on first entering the domain is due to the extreme care, good taste, experience and high principles used by the delightful and ever helpful owners, Tim and Candida. They have a large family and have created a luxurious, charming and practical home which I and all my group felt incredibly privileged to experience.

We included, a seventy-eight year old, two avid hikers, a horse enthusiast, a painter, young lovers, and three modern demanding children.

A magical place for all seasons and all types of visitor.

It deserves the highest accolades.

Location

From the Owner

We have renovated the house completely using locally-sourced traditional skills and materials and have lavished much love and attention on every aspect of the interior and exterior to create the perfect house in which to relax and enjoy yourself. Every guest we have had has commented on the almost supernaturally peaceful atmosphere; one person in-fact nicknamed it “Paradiso” and the name has stuck. We are particularly in love with the master bedroom which was converted from an open barn area. It has an open pitched ceiling with the beams still exposed and full height French windows across the whole room, which give breath-taking views over the valley. Having a bath in the family-sized copper bathtub with its views over the countryside is an amazing experience.

There are literally hundreds of kilometres of beautiful bridleways which can be explored on horseback or by bike from the doorstep.

Facilities

From the Owner

It had always been our dream to have a fresh-water pool and the team we brought in from London created a pool which has exceeded our wildest dreams. All the plants and the pond life live in the top pool where the water is filtered. Crystal-clear water flows over the 1 metre stone waterfall into the swimming pool below. The only problem we have found is the shock of swimming in a normal chlorinated pool after being spoilt with our fresh-water pool! Although there is much to see and do in the area, most of our guests struggle to leave the house and much time is spent lazing by the pool, sitting under the vines and playing badminton in the sports area behind the house.

Oh and the kids’ absolute favourite, the tree swing. The house has a large flat lawn to the front of the house which, together with extensive parking, makes it a suitable venue for weddings and other events. Outside: On the front lawn is a large pergola with a stone table and seating for 16 people and a vine protecting you from the sun and enabling al-fresco eating. A barbecue (and wood) are provided. The pergola overlooks the separate plant area of the biological swimming pool from which the water drops into the swimming area over the stone waterfall. The pool water, which is unheated, contains no chemicals or additives and the sensation of swimming in fresh water is difficult to describe and impossible to forget! Add to your memories by swimming under the stars with the waterfall and pool lit up! Around the pool are sun loungers and a large round sunbed with shade; our favourite thing is to eat breakfast on the sunbed early in the morning (before the children wake up..) Behind the house is a large hazelnut grove. Sitting under the natural arched pathway of the grove is a marble table with chairs; a haven of peace and bird-sound. Utility Room: Sink, washing machine, iron and ironing board and clothes driers. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels, linen and pool towels are included. All linen and towels are changed prior to arrival. It is possible to arrange extra cleaning during the rental period. Other: Leading out from the living room on the 1st floor is a large covered portico under the eaves of the roof with 2 sofas, a rocking chair and coffee table. This is an ideal quiet place to escape the midday sun, to admire the view, play a game or even doze!
