"The hideway" is the smallest of our properties. Both the bedroom, bathroom, lounge, kitchen and dining area are all open to the eaves. There is one bedroom with a double and a single bed and an ensuite bathroom. The bathroom has a bath with shower over.
The large room at the front of the property consists of a comfortable relaxing area with soft furnishings, a dining area and a kitchen equipped with electric cooker, fridge and washing machine.
Leading from this room through french doors is a private covered patio with bbq and garden furniture. A great place to sip wine and view the romantic sunsets. If you like wildlife then watch the birds of prey and perhaps you will see our resident hares and bats.
The property has DVD/CD/radio/mp3 player/ipod with a selection of books and games. DVD's are available on request and we hold a good library selection.
Courtalou is a group of 4 beautifully restored 17th Century cottages in 2 acres of secluded private gardens surrounded by farmland and woods. Set in the rolling hills and gentle valleys of the Lot et Garonne near the Dordogne borders, which boasts a rich history of enchanting castles and medieval towns such as Monpazier, Monflanquin and the famous Bergerac vineyards and gastronomic specialities. Our 1 bedroom sleep 3, 2 bedroom sleeping 5, 3 bedroom sleeping 6 and the main farmhouse sleeps up to 9.
Friendly couple in their late 40's who wish for you to have a stress free and memorable holiday.
Have finally made my dream come true and spend 4 months every year in the sunny Dordogne / Lot et Garonne region. I love having holiday makers to stay and want them to have a fabulous time and to see all the amazing sites that this region has to offer.
Dawn Hillier purchased this house in 2009
When I first saw Courtalou I instantly fell in love with the stonework of the farmhouse and its cottages and the feeling of being away from It all - just being able to see fields and trees. The only noise you can hear is that of a woodpecker or the tree frogs in the woods. To see deer roaming free across the gardens always makes me smile.
Whilst feeling rural, it is still within very easy reach of Villereal with all its shops, bars, restaurants and pharmacy and there are 3 geogous bakeries in Villereal and 1 within walking distance to Montaut for that morning croissant I so enjoy.
The woods at the end of the drive and plenty of cycle paths and footpaths around made it attractive to me yet just jump in the car and there are many beautiful places to visit.
Having internet is handy so I am able to communicate with friends and family whilst away for the summer months.
The pool is right opposite the cottages and farmhouse so its easy to nip out whenever you feel like it to have a dip or, to relax on one of the floating armchairs in the pool.
There is a good library of dvd's and books so if you just want to stay in one night, cuddle up and watch a good movie its easy to do so.
There are games and puzzles in each gite which are fun to play with friends and family.
If you fancy a bit of sport, there is table tennis and basketball on site too.
10 minutes up the road you can visit the manmade beach and crystal clear lake which all ages of children and adults alike can enjoy including the hire of pedeloes.
We have visited Courtalou on several occasions in our car with our dog and on the motorbike without the dog! We have always had a great welcome from Dawn and found the gite spotless and with everything in it we could wish for. The surrounding area was stunning and the pool very inviting after a day of exploring the many villages and countryside. We found Courtalou very quiet and relaxing and look forward to a future visit.
This exceeded our expectations in every way. The host, Dawn was warm, welcoming and helpful throughout without being 'obviously present', nothing was too much trouble.
The accommodation was quite simply my dream home, and spotless too. This time I went with my partner and his child but went the year before with a girlfriends. Both holidays were fabulous. I daresay we will be back again soon possibly with the entire family...all nine of us!
