About Serena

We are a London couple with a 10yr old daughter. We work hard during the week and can not wait to get to Lower Mill at the weekends to collapse. Our environment and aesthetics are really important to us, and our home reflects it. We use it as much as we can too, which means it is not rented out all the time, it is well looked after and ready for our guests.

Serena purchased this house in 2011

Why Serena chose Cotswold district

A friend very kindly lent us their house on Lower mill as we were exhausted and needed some family time together. Before we arrived we could not understand why anyone would want to live in a 'gated community' in the county. As we drove through the gates we left London life behind and all its stresses, and within 24 hours of swimming, walking, biking, and just sitting by water - we got it! The biggest gift was when our daughter, who was used to London life, rode off on a bike and came back an hour later with some new friends, covered in mud saying 'Mummy this is freedom!' We then knew that somehow we needed to get a place at Lower mill!

What makes this house unique

It was really important that we bought a home close to everything on the estate. We didn't want to get into our car to get anywhere! We have a unique location:

- We have uninterrupted views of the largest lake and nature reserve beyond ie. you do not look onto other homes as in most houses.

- There are only four homes on the same stretch of land as ours that goes directly onto the lake

- We are a couple of minutes walk from the award winning spa, the shop, the tennis courts, playground, trampoline, football pitch and tree house!

- We have a parking space right outside, with the visitors car park very near near by.

Fabulous holiday in luxurious house.

  • 5 of 5

We found a bright, modern, very clean and very well furnished house with stunning views across a nature reserve lake all situated on a private estate of luxurious and individually designed holiday homes. The estate offers a gorgeous spa with large heated indoor and outdoor pools and an absolutely freezing eco pool which caused many dares and much hilarity amongst our party. The treatments we had in the spa were discreet and very relaxing. We sweated it out in the well equipped gym, also, before falling into the sauna and steam rooms. Being able to kayak from the bottom of the garden in "free" boats was a bonus. Also on site is an all day restaurant offering very child friendly food in comfortable surroundings. I suspect the menu choices will become greater in high season as it could become a bit boring if relying upon it everyday. There are numerous tennis courts and we walked everyday taking in the Thames path which is idyllic.

The information sheet provided by the owners was so helpful and directed us to some excellent pubs for eating. Meanwhile cooking back at the house was easy with a superbly well equipped kitchen, including a dishwasher and a large Waitrose and Tesco about 5 miles away.

This was a fabulous base from which to explore the area and its beautiful villages if you can tear yourself away from all it has to offer on the estate. Children will be most reluctant to go out for the day!!

We would highly recommend a stay at this house and felt very relaxed about letting our teenagers wander off on their own (under 16's do require adult supervision in the pool).

Sitting on the upstairs terrace with a glass of wine, watching the sun go down, the light changing over the water and so many varieties of birds at play was a lovely way to end each day.

Serena was highly attentive and helpful from my first contact with her and very approachable with our silly queries throughout the holiday.

A major thumbs up from all of us.

Owner's Response: It is always lovely to get these reviews, especially when someone takes the time and trouble to help our future guests. It makes all our hard work in trying to make our home as welcoming as possible. (Thank you Angela for highlighting that more glasses would be helpful....duly done)

Amazing escape in a wonderful house

  • 5 of 5

The communication and information received prior to our visit was incredibly helpful and our children throughly enjoyed the forest school that the owner recommended.

The house is beautiful and has some lovely accessories. It has all the modern items you would want in your own home. All the bedrooms were lovely and spacious with plenty of bathrooms for the house.

The information at the house was very useful and the facilities on site were clean and the staff we met were very helpful.

Would definitely return one day.

We love this house!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed here three times - we keep coming back as we love the location and the house. The sitting room in particular has unbeatable light and an amazing view over the lake and we love spending time there drinking coffee in the mornings and lounging on the sofas watching movies in the evenings. We also love the Spa the pools and the restaurants - for our family Lower Mill is the perfect combination of social location and quiet space, and if you are not a 'Cottage' person it is also the ideal way to experience the beauty of the Cotswolds. We would highly recommend it - we have never done repeat visits anywhere else!

Fabulous family holiday

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing family holiday at the cottage. It's was spacious, clean, very well equipped and in idyllic surroundings. With 3 children, ranging from 9-15 , there was something for everyone to do. We rode bikes, went for walks, shopped, drank in lovely country pubs and spent 10 days having a lovely family Christmas. My children are already nagging me to go back again in the summer.

Fabulous family escape

  • 5 of 5

This property at Lower Mill Estate is very much a home from home with great attention to detail and luxury finishing touches. The view is amazing and one of the best around. The owner's tips on the area and estate were invaluable. Even in October there was loads to do with kids. We will be back I am sure.

Beautiful house

  • 5 of 5

The house was lovely. spacious, clean and well maintained. The owner provided good customer service.

One thing that was disappointing for us was that the lakes are actually not really good for fishing as they are full of plants at the bottom.

I would recommend this property to anyone.
