Montbolo is a small hillside village nestling in the foothills of the Pyrenees at the base of the Canigou Mountain. Our apartment, in the tranquil village of Montbolo is perfect for unwinding. It has truly stunning views across the wonderful Roussillon countryside and uninterrupted views of the Tech valley, all the way down to the Mediterranean Sea. The views are possibly among the best that you can experience in the area. The interior of the apartment flows out through large French doors to the exterior terrace, overlooking the Roussillon plain, this is a wonderfully-positioned, contemporary one bedroom apartment, ideally located for exploring the diversity of the region, an idyllic location for a peaceful holiday in the sunniest area of France.

About Graeme Frost

Graeme and Michele are a recently retired couple living in the house in which the apartment is situated.

Graeme is a retired architect, who designed this property.

One of his main interests now is painting the beautiful views of this area, mainly in water-colours.

Michele who was brought up around here, is involved in tourism during the summer season. It has been her life long dream to return to the area where her mother came from.

We bought land in the tranquil village of Montbolo which is perfect for unwinding with the stunning views over the countryside, the peaceful village and the beautiful sunrises.

Graeme has designed a versatile property which enables them to live on the top floor, with an apartment below. The living accommodation is all on the front of the house, to be able to enjoy the best views, particularly the sun rises coming up above the Mediterranean.

What makes this apartment unique

Montbolo is a small hillside village nestling in the foothills of the Pyrennes at the base of the Canigou Mountain.

At 600m above sea level, it has truly stunning views across the wonderful Roussillon countryside and uninterrupted views of the Tech valley, all the way down to the Mediterranean Sea. The views are possibly among the best that you can experience in the area.

The Mediterranean is 25 miles away and the vibrant coastal town of Collioure with the famous "Artists walk" and many restaurants. There are long sandy beaches at Argeles, St Cyprien and Le Racou and not to be missed is the coastal drive through the villages of the Cote Vermeille and on to the Spanish villages of the Costa Brava. Another delightful town is Ceret and the Museum of Modern Art.

Tranquil with stunning views

High above the Tech valley the well kept village of Montbolo commands a breathtaking view which is enjoyed by this simple but comfortable apartment. Our hosts were very kind, well informed and helpful, able to advise on itineraries and cultural opportunities alike. The mountain roads wind steeply making driving more demanding but with the reward of still more views. Here there is silence along the forest paths disturbed only by the streams coursing down. A good place from which to explore both the coast (Collioure and Port Vendres to Banyuls), the towns in the valley (Ceret with its Museum of Modern Art and Prats de Mollo) and the sights of the Pyrenees. Limited opportunities for eating out in the village but if you are looking for peace, then this may be the place for you. We took all our meals on the large terrace which enjoys the sun all morning and then provides welcome shade later in the day.

a perfect holiday

We had a wonderful fortnight in Montbolo with Graeme and Michele, enjoying all of the sights that are mentioned here and more. The area turned out to be ideal for the “active holidaymaker” with lots of good walking destinations within a radius of 30 kms. There are many pics to climb without any difficulties but with great views, and there is a great of variety of walks to do for keen hikers, including the coastal paths. Also the enthusiastic cyclist who likes to conquer a col or two will enjoy these surroundings tremendously. Returning to the apartment and enjoying a glass of wine on the large terrace with its spectacular view was always a pleasant treat after an exhausting but exhilirating daytrip.

We found this apartment to be perfect for our stay in Montbolo, being located on a hillside overlooking Amelie with gorgeous views to the sea, yet well placed for trips to the coastal resorts; the historic inland towns of the Tech & Tet valleys; the north east coast of Spain and Pyrenees.

The recently constructed apartment was clean, comfortable, and quiet and the owner was very helpful with advice on what to see and where to go.

The village restaurant is just 150m from the apartment which allows sampling the local wines without driving!

We would definitely recommend this property to our friends & family and anyone looking for a peaceful holiday in South Languedoc.

Amazing views

We spent an fabulous week in this wonderful apartment. We found it spotlessly clean, spacious and well equipped. The french doors open onto a large private terrace with incredible views over the valley right down to the sea. We spent hours sitting with a glass of wine admiring the view and watching the changing weather. Use of the owners pool was a bonus. The area is especially great for walking, sightseeing around the historic villages and visiting the wineries! Collioure and Port Vendres on the coast are a 'must see.' Graeme and Michele the English owners are very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the area. We recommend the local restaurant/bar which is only a few minutes stroll away.

Bel appartement, parfait pour les balades en montagne et pas top loin des plages.

Endroit calme et reposant.

L’appartement correspond à la description, superbe terrasse d'où l'on a une vue magnifique.

Seul inconvénient aucun commerce dans le village même pas de dépôt de pain ce qui contraint à emprunter la route sinueuse pour se rendre à Amélie.

Les propriétaires sont charmants.
