About Sarah Raad

We are Sarah & Dominic a professional couple with our own design and marketing business. We live in a village in the North East of England with our little boy. We love interiors, design and food and drink and we feel this is reflected in the offering at Hideaway, a stylish and well equipped cottage especially created with couples in mind!

Sarah Raad purchased this cottage in 1997

Why Sarah Raad chose Yorkshire Moors and Coast

Sarah spent many a happy family holiday in the area as a child. We do think the areas offers something for everyone. Serious walkers and bikers will find spectacular scenery and a varied terrain to enjoy whilst foodies will find so many wonderful places to eat and drink. The shopping in all of the beautiful independent stores and boutiques is wonderful. Whitby itself is fantastic but to stay there it can be rather busy and crowded at times. We think Iburndale where the cottage is located, on the edge of Sleights with its amenities offers a really good alternative, close to attractions and amenities but in a peaceful and tranquil rural setting.

What makes this cottage unique

This is a small but perfectly formed cottage! We have had many honeymooners, mini mooners, special anniversaries and the odd marriage proposal! We have put some really lovely features into the place, original art and crafts and handmade little touches as well as the more practical items like napkins, tea lights, fire-lighters (and matches!), washing up liquid and hand soap that many other cottages leave out.

If you are an urbanite you won't believe how quiet the cottage is, especially at night, with the sound of the nearby beck and the odd owl to sooth you to sleep!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a lovely time at your cottage, we loved the big sofa and found the bed to be very comfortable. It was a lovely place to relax after our day spent walking and exploring the area. it is well equipped, clean and cosy. We recommend The Plough in Sleights for simple tasty pub food and also Staithes is well worth a visit.

Pretty Cottage in need of a bit of TLC

  • 3 of 5

The Cottage is beautiful. Unfortunately, although fairly well equipped the Oven needed thoroughly cleaning and the Bedding was also in need of an upgrade. But a lovely location and beautiful village with excellent amenities. Having said all that we enjoyed our break in North Yorkshire.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback and hopefully the rest of the cottage was to your liking. We visited ourselves recently to deliver new items and check the inventory and found nothing amiss. I have passed on the comment regarding the oven to our cleaner who has now rectified this. The cottage recently has brand new bedding bought but again I have passed this comment on. Very best wishes.

Lovely week!

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely week staying at Hideaway cottage. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Visited Whitby, Scarborough, Sandsend and Goathland. We also went to see The Beach Boys at an open air concert in Scarborough which was the highlight of our week!

If there was any criticism it would be the lack of parking adjacent to the cottage. But other than that, a wonderful week!!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review! We are really pleased you had a lovely time, sounds like you packed it all in! We agree about the parking but sadly that's the nature of old villages like Iburndale. However having parking less than a minutes walk away is a good second best. Many thanks for staying with us and we hope to see you again.

Perfect

  • 5 of 5

Not usually one to submit reviews as I believe that they are all subjective and “you can’t please all of the people all of the time” but this time it’s worth doing so take from this what you want.

We were hoping to just spend a weekend away from it all with no work pressures and no distractions. We didn’t really plan on venturing out much and had just planned to chill out. This place really didn’t disappoint. Everything you could need, small cosy well equipped and homely. The weather helped out enormously by being windy and showery, perfect as the furthest I ventured was out to the coal bunker in my slippers and this made me feel much less guilty about not exploring the rest of this fantastic location. So if you want a home from home, clean, comfy sofa, comfy bed and an open fire where you can just relax this is definitely the place to go. And if you do want to do something crazy like swapping slippers for shoes/ boots and explore the best that North Yorkshire has to offer then this is the perfect base from which to do it. Thank you Sarah for creating such a perfect retreat

Owner's Response: Hello David! I am delighted that you had such a lovely time! Thought it IS a bit naughty to not at least go into Whitby for Fish and Chips! It really means a lot when people take the time to write such lovely reviews so thank you very much. Please do visit Hideaway Cottage again soon, you will be made very welcome.
