This spacious luxury apartment is in the hidden gem of La Gittaz, which is a small quiet hamlet away from the bustle of Meribel Centre, but not far from all amenities and with easy access to the largest skiing area in Europe.

It is a family owned apartment that we let for just a few weeks each year in the winter peak season and also for a few weeks in the summer. The apartment is in a charming old Savoyard chalet that has recently been converted to 6 apartments, all self-contained with their own front doors. It has stunning views across the valley from the large comfortable corner sofa-bed in the sitting area through the large plate glass sliding patio doors. You can also sit on the sunny balcony in the morning getting a tan, or sit at the table and 4 chairs and enjoy your lunch looking at the view, or have a glass of wine in the evening watching the sun go down. The large balcony wraps around the apartment, getting the sun first thing in the morning and all day long.

The apartment has been refurbished to a very high standard, with quality fittings, including washer/dryer, split-level oven and hob, dishwasher and 2 luxury bathrooms, one en-suite. One bathroom has a shower over a full-sized bath, the en-suite bathroom has a walk-in shower and a WC. Both bathrooms have good sized washbasins with large well-lit mirrors over them and plenty of storage space. There is a WC in the en-suite bathroom, and another separate WC.

There are two bedrooms, each with two single beds, which can be pushed together to form doubles. There is ample storage space with sliding door wardrobes in both bedrooms and large cupboards in the dining area.

There is free Broadband WiFi throughout the apartment. There is a flat-screen TV and DVD player. The TV picks up French channels and BBC World, CNN, Sky news, Disney, etc. The TV is a smart TV which also connects to the Internet. You can connect your own computer, Xbox, or AV equipment to the TV via an HDMI cable (which is normally connected to the DVD player). There is a music centre with iPod dock (bring your own iPod/iPhone), CD player, radio and an AUX connection for your own audio equipment.

The chalet has a secure ski locker room with a separate lockable ski locker for our apartment. The apartment has one private allocated parking space, with plenty more free parking nearby.

There is a beautiful 17 century chapel a few yards away.

About the Owner

I retired recently, and when my husband retired as a GP in 2013, we bought this apartment for our family as we all love the three valleys in winter as well as in summer. The apartment is tucked away in the hidden gem of La Gittaz, which is within walking distance of both the Olympique bubble lift and the bus stop for the free bus. So it is an ideal spacious and comfortable family apartment but within easy reach of skiing, summer sports and the abundant night-life. It's also not far from some excellent restaurants and an award-winning Boulanger. We let out the apartment when our family are not using it to help defray the costs, so it is a well-appointed and comfortable place that feels just like home!

We have stayed at many holiday houses in the past when our children were growing up and have enjoyed some wonderful times. Using this experience we have equipped our properties to a very high standard and tried to include touches that we have appreciated in homes we have stayed in. The apartment is in a beautiful setting and is well loved. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we do.

Comfortable, warm & well equipped.

This is a great apartment. Perfect for 4 people with lots of space, especially with the two bathrooms. The kitchen is very well equipped, we ended up cooking most nights. With supermarkets in Meribel Centre, Meribel village and La Tania there was no problem stocking up on the essentials. The wifi was a great addition, and with a TV and DVD player there was no problem with entertainment. But just sitting on the comfy sofa admiring the great view was just as good! The communications from the owner were clear and extensive and with a representative in the resort we felt very well served. We got to the slopes mainly by driving to La Raffort and taking the gondola to Meribel Centre, but we walked a couple of times to the gondola, which wasn't difficult. We would definitely recommend this property, having a car made getting around a lot easier, but it wouldn't have been too difficult without one.

This property is definitely worth 5 stars.

We've just returned from a perfect half term skiing holiday at Le Bachal. A great location, only minutes drive from the ski lifts in Meribel centre and Meribel village giving you access to the huge 3 valley's ski area.

The apartment is a real home from home. A great place to come back and relax after a good day on the slopes. Decorated in a typical Savoyard style with thoughtful little extras such as cosy hot water bottles. A well equipped kitchen with all you need to prepare a hearty meal.

An easy drive from Geneva airport, would highly recommend.

Magnificent holiday

I have never done this before but feel compelled to leave feedback for what was a truly magnificent holiday. I have been to Meribel on several occasions and this visit was made all the more enjoyable and memorable due to being fortunate enough to stay in this wonderful apartment.

The apartment was exactly as described and if anything, a little understated as the facilities are fantastic. There are lots of nice touches (restaurant listing with ratings etc) to supplement the obvious services available and it felt like a real home for a week. It was immaculate, very well maintained and we wanted for nothing. These home comforts can be a hindrance as I found it difficult getting friends out of the apartments in the mornings.

Steps down from the road to the apartment were initially a little difficult to navigate however, there is a shovel and rock salt available which we used to clear the snow after a decent snowfall just prior to our arrival.

La Gittaz is very quaint, quiet and picturese and the views from the apartment are truly beautiful. I was concerned that the location was a little out the way however, the concern was unfounded as there is a track down to a lift (next stop being La Chaudanne - 5 mins) which we boarded too twice, there is a free bus service at the end of the road (5-10 min walk) which takes 5 mins to get to Meribel Village and we walked to Meribel centre two evenings which is up a gradual hill in about 15 mins.

Finally I must add that from start to finish the owner (Sue) was an absolute pleasure do deal with. Nothing is too much trouble; communications are very clear, prompt and polite.

Location

From the Owner

Our family have always been keen skiers and snowboarders. One of our sons has been a seasonaire in Meribel for many years and when the opportunity came to buy our own apartment we jumped at it. It is in a quiet village with stunning views but also within easy reach of Meribel which is always buzzing during the ski season, but is also busy in the summer with walkers, mountain bikers and people who just love being in the mountains with the stunning views.

Nearest Airport : Geneva at 180 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : Lodge du Village at 1.5 Kilometres Nearest Golf : Altiport at 4.5 Kilometres Nearest Train : Moutiers at 16 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : Moutiers at 16 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : Le Martagon at 750 Metres Nearest Ski : Meribel Village at 1.5 Kilometres Car: not necessary

Travel:

By Air: The nearest airports are Geneva (1.5hrs), Chambery (1hr) Grenoble (1.5hrs) and Lyon (2 hours). Car hire is not essential but is easy and fairly cheap from all the major airports. There are also coaches which run from the airports to Meribel.

By Train: Moutiers rail station is 25 mins by taxi and there is also a regular bus service. During the ski season there is a regular direct Eurostar service from London St Pancras to Moutiers. There is also a rail service with a change in Paris and a change at Chambery.

By car: Annecy is 1 hour. Calais is 600 miles. Be aware that the road to all ski resorts can get very busy on Saturday afternoons at peak times in the season.

A car is not necessary in Meribel in winter, but is very useful for getting around if you have one. You can drive to the Olympique bubble lift in Le Raffort which gets you to the main lifts at the Chaudanne in 5 min, or to the ski lift in Meribel Village. Both have free parking and quick easy access. The lack of sufficient free parking in Meribel Centre may mean that you don't use your car in resort much.

There is an allocated parking space at the apartment, and plenty of free parking nearby in the village.

Meribel has many shops, restaurants, banks and 2 supermarkets. There are local delicatessens, a fromagerie, and an excellent butcher. There is the huge Olympic swimming pool which apart from swimming runs exercise classes and aqua fit sessions. There are many local walks and mountain biking is very popular outside the ski season.

Our usual changeover day is Saturday, but we are very flexible and are happy to consider any changeover day. Arrival after 4PM, check out 10AM. Early arrivals and late leavers may leave luggage by prior arrangement.

£200 booking/security deposit payable on booking. The deposit will be returned after your stay provided that the apartment in left in good order. The booking deposit will be retained if the booking is cancelled within 60 days of the start date.
Full rental is due 6 weeks before rental start date, this is in addition to the booking deposit.

  • There is a private balcony that wraps around the apartment, one side is south facing and gets the sun in the morning, the other is west facing and gets the sun in the afternoon. Equipped with two tables and 6 chairs it's a great place to enjoy a drink or a meal looking at the spectacular views and soaking up the sun. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Fully equipped to a high standard with fresh linen and fluffy towels. On arrival you will be greeted by our caretaker who will show you around and deal with any enquiries or questions you may have. A weekly towel/linen change, and a thorough cleaning throughout the apartment is included in the rent. Inside the apartment there is an open plan fully equipped kitchen diner. The dining table seats 4 but there are extension leaves in the cupboard which can be added to seat more. From the large corner sofa you can sit and gaze at the fabulous view through the large picture window.
