Very homely and comfortable.

  • 5 of 5

Gorgeous little cottage converted from an old dairy with tonnes of character. Plenty of storage, which is unusual in a holiday rental. Mattresses all good quality and comfortable. You have to sit in the bath to shower as the bathroom has a sloping ceiling with old beams across it, but the flow is good and there's plenty of hot water. We only stayed for three nights and didn't get around to having a go at cooking on the rayburn, there is an electric hob too, but hope to return one day and try it out. The owners are right next door and really friendly and welcoming, they rushed round to crank the heating up as I'm disabled and my joints need to be kept warm. Highly recommended.

lovely property in quiet countryside

  • 5 of 5

This is, I think, a converted dairy barn with exposed beams and a lovely large kitchen and a cosy sitting room with an open fire. There is also a very nice enclosed garden which comes off the kitchen. the slight quirk is that there is nowhere to sit and look out on the garden. The garden is protected and delightful to sit in and there are also some glorious countryside walks nearby, including a stunning arboretum. We loved it.

Very relaxing stay. Although not cold we treated ourselves to a REAL log fire a few evenings. Hosts were lovely people. No noise pollution, really quiet. Thank you!

An interesting old cottage but needs some attention to detail

  • 3 of 5

Nice to stay in a genuinely old cottage with original features, but we felt that equipment and furnishings could do with some updating. Managing the Raeburn was a new experience for us and we could have done with more guidance on its use.

Our main concern was with the bathroom. The description mentioned "shower enclosure" which is incorrect. I am by no means disabled, but was recovering from a serious hip injury and found that crouching in a narrow bath with concave base whilst trying to operate a hand-held shower without spraying the whole bathroom was extremely fraught and I was very concerned that I might incur further injury. As an absolute minimum a non-slip mat should be provided for the bath; also a glass screen from the rim of the bath up to ceiling height. In the long term, the installation of a proper shower cubicle should be considered for downstairs.

Owner's Response: Dear Oliver D, Thank you for your helpful comments. I am glad you had a nice stay. We do live next door and would have been happy to provide guidance on the Rayburn, which is an excellent cooker but does need some familiarity. Non-slip mat now in the bathroom; we would have provided one had you asked. The sloping ceiling restricts what can be done in the bathroom. Best wishes Sean
