About the property

Oak Tree Cottage near Najac, Aveyron, Midi-Pyrenees, France - Lovely Barn Conversion with Oak Beams, Stone Walls, Overlooking Peaceful Rural Valley

This one hundred year old stone cottage has been fully refurbished to provide tasteful and luxurious accommodation for up to eight people. Beautifully located in the Serene Valley with fantastic views of surrounding farmland. You will enjoy getting away from it all with quiet river valleys dotted with charming farms and medieval villages (Les Plus Belle Villages de France). Nearby activities include walking, horse-riding, tennis, canoeing, fishing, cycling and rock-climbing. The property is modern and well appointed but keeps its traditional character. The rooms are spacious and bright with large glazed doors opening to the extensive patio/garden and pool areas. Situated in a quiet hamlet yet in easy reach of all facilities and historic towns. The Aveyron is one of the last unspoiled regions of France. Situated between the Dordogne and the Mediterranean it is one of the largest yet least populated areas of France. Renowned for peaceful countryside and brilliant sunny summers.

About Peter Thomas Mccoy

Hi, we are Peter and Chris McCoy retired teachers from Broadstairs in Kent. For over twenty years we have owned the cottage in south-west France and now we would like to share it with you. We aim to make your stay as enjoyable as possible and you will find us friendly, approachable and helpful. Please feel free to contact us at any stage with any queries you may have or if we can help you with any aspect of your holiday.

Peter Thomas Mccoy purchased this farmhouse in 1991

Why Peter Thomas Mccoy chose Aveyron

We were looking for a part of France that was off the tourist trail. Somewhere quiet and peaceful with a sense of community and tradition, what you might call real France. We certainly found it and have enjoyed many years of holidays in Oak Tree Cottage since then. The farm house, landscape and villages seem unchanging and the restaurants have an eye to regional dishes and local produce including duck and veal, the prices are incredible, how about a five course lunch (with wine of course) for ten pounds? In 2010 we had the barn professionally renovated using local professionals under architect supervision and since last year we have been helping others to discover this gorgeous part of France.

What makes this farmhouse unique

The cottage is unique, it's origins as a barn provide spacious accommodation yet unlike many country properties in France the several doors and windows create a bright and relaxing ambiance. The river valley location provides some breathtaking views to the south, and as a visitor said this summer "You can hear the silence." it doesn't come more relaxing than that. There are several rewarding walks that can be taken from the cottage and history is virtually on the doorstep in ancient buildings, villages and towns.

Many people choose to stay close to the house enjoying the countryside, views and of course the pool. The choice is yours!

Guestbook comments from the owner

"Tranquility and Beauty in the French Countryside"

After driving through beautiful countryside you arrive at the villa set in rolling hills, fields and forest. The stone villa is very spacious and comfortable. It's well equipped, satellite tv, dvd and cd players. A good selection of books and dvds. The kitchen is well equipped if you enjoy cooking the wonderful french produce, and the beds are comfortable. Very light and roomy, the villa has lovely views all round.

You can sit on the front terrace and have breakfast and watch the buzzards hunting over the fields. Feet away birds sit in the hedgerow and sing their hearts out in the garden the lavender attracts butterflies which are great to watch. There are places to sit around the villa whether you like sunshine or shade. The pool has the sun all the time we had two weeks of unbroken sunshine and the pool was warm, no shocks! Great for swimming or just lazing, floating around soaking up the sun. Some lovely walks nearby. G File 2013
