Farmhouse and Annexe in Sao Bras de Alportel, Eastern Algarve - Superb Panoramic Mountain Views In A Peaceful, Bucolic Location Away From Tourists But Near All Amenities

A Casa do Campo has two units: a large three bedroomed farmhouse and a one bedroomed annexe let exclusively to the group renting the main house.

The spacious authentic rustic farmhouse and the annexe, both artistically and lovingly restored, offer beautiful countryside mountain views. The original features have been painstakingly and stylishly updated with typical Portuguese style windows (shielded by anti-insect screens), doors and cane ceilings. There is air-conditioning in every bedroom.

Drive through the automatic gates and park off-road; nearby is the roofed outdoor living room overlooking the (8m x 3.5m) pool on a sunny terrace with pretty Portuguese tiles and comfortable outdoor furniture. Look across to country views and relax on the cushioned rattan suites, ideal for sipping a cool drink, reading a book, playing games or just chatting with friends. For sun-worshippers there are plenty of rattan sunbeds, stylish cushions, side tables and parasols for lounging around the pool.

Up some steps at the front of the house is another long upper terrace with far reaching mountain views (on a clear day you can see the sea) and a huge barbecue tucked around the side.

A chunky farmhouse table and benches near both the barbecue and the kitchen gives 8 people lots of room for relaxed al fresco dining, shaded if required by a large awning and umbrellas.

Inside The Main House:

The new and well-equipped architect-designed "eat in" kitchen (with round table seating eight for relaxed indoor conviviality) and separate utility room with two fridges and essential ice machine are conveniently near the al fresco eating area.

Although the Main House only sleeps six, there is ample seating for eight in the kitchen, the living room, barbecue area and outdoor living room by the pool.

There are double doors from the terrace to the large, bright and airy living room and a twin room with house bathroom further along and a staircase up to the top floor.

The top floor houses the double bedded ensuite master bedroom on one side of the staircase and on the other is a large double room with a double and a single bed and its own bathroom nearby. The house laptop with free wifi and basic printer sit quietly in the hallway in front of a bright window with pretty views - a quiet away-from-it-all spot for browsing. Childproof gates are available to be fitted if required at both the top and foot of the stairs.

Inside The Annexe:

A Casinha do Campo, or "The Annexe" is only rented out as an extension to the Main house and is not available for independent lets. It lies down some steps from the Main House. The previous owner of "A Casa do Campo" ran the Annexe as a B&B so it is fully equipped for independent living while being close enough to the Main House so that guests in the Annexe don't feel excluded in any way.

There's a large double bed, traditional built-in wardrobes and units and in the far corner is a fridge, kettle and larder space. There's also a TV, DVD and music system for independent entertainment.

A good sized shower room with WC completes the self-contained amenities.

The Annexe has its own little terrace with mountain views, two sunbeds and overlooks the pool - it's slightly set apart but not so much that you miss out on any fun!

The Annexe has complete access to all the amenities inside and outside the Main House, as described above.

About Clive and Charlie Barton, Mags Lake

Clive and Charlie have owned property in the Eastern Algarve since 2001. Charlie's childhood was spent in Peru until her family relocated to Jersey. The family were happy there but missed the wild rawness of Peruvian countryside and in the 1970's retreated to a summer bolthole in Almeria, Spain, later moving on to Las Alpujarras, Granada where her artist mother loved to paint.

Charlie inherited the love of a simple rural life and when visiting friends near Estoi she and her husband Clive fell in love with the Eastern Algarve.

"Casa Violeta" came up for sale, followed by "A Casa do Campo" in a village reminiscent of happy, stress-free childhood holidays away from tourists in beautiful unspoilt surroundings.

Why Clive and Charlie Barton, Mags Lake chose Algarve

We bought "A Casa do Campo" from a friend who had refurbished the farmhouse to such a high standard that very little needed to be done.

Two years previously Charlie had bought "Casa Violeta" (P10140) in the same village which has proved very popular both for couples wanting a quiet romantic "away from it all" holiday and for families or friends wanting a location which, although quiet and seemingly remote is still very near to all amenities and beaches, golf courses, etc.

We are also very lucky to have our Property Managers, Ian and Mags living close by and looking after both properties to a very high standard which has been much appreciated by our guests at Casa Violeta.

What makes this farmhouse unique

A Casa do Campo has a wonderful barbecue area and large terrace with sweeping mountain views. There is also a covered seating area by the pool where one can relax in the shade while keeping an eye on the children enjoying the swimming pool.

The old and atmospheric house is airy and spacious with lovely views from every window.

Sao Bras de Alportel, a busy town, is only a ten minute drive away on quiet country roads - beaches are just half an hour away. There is no stressful motorway driving to do between the airport and the house.

Notes on accommodation: The master bedroom is on the top floor with a 5ft double bed, and there is a large bedroom across the hallway containing a double (also 5ft) and a single bed. This bedroom can either be used for a couple, or for two children who need to sleep near their parents. There's also plenty of room for a cot. Baby gates are available to be installed at the top and bottom of the stairs. There is one twin bedded room downstairs and a further double room with 5ft bed in the annexe as described above. All bedrooms have airconditioning. Outside: The property is accessed by a remote controlled entrance and there is room for parking a large car inside the grounds. You step through from the parking area into a large covered outdoor room, built for shady but poolside relaxation. Here there are comfortable rattan sofas with plump and colourful cushions for flopping, reading, playing cards or just enjoying a break from the sunshine with a cooling drink. You can sit here but still watch over the kids in the pool if they need supervision. There are six rattan sunbeds by the pool and two further sunbeds outside the Annexe, which is in full view. At the far corner of the house, above the covered sunroom is the large barbecue and huge farmhouse outdoor table and benches. There are plenty of sunshades for shady lounging/dining. At night the sky is full of stars due to the lack of light pollution in the area. Utility Room: The utility room lies through an archway from the kitchen and houses a washing machine, tumble drier, second fridge and dishwasher. A large cupboard holds cleaning equipment, iron and ironing board and second sink. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bath towels and pool towels are all supplied as well as all bedlinen. The property is cleaned and bedlinen and towels changed once a week. In case of bookings of 10 days, bedlinen, etc will be changed during the middle of the holiday.

Fantastically peaceful

My partner and I stayed here for 10 nights of unadulterated bliss. Cova Da Muda offered us the quiet sanctuary we were after. The beautiful valley views were a fabulous start to our mornings. We travelled around the Algarve ahead of staying here so it really was a deserved retreat to relax.

The villa had everything we needed, and was in a really clean and good condition.

My boyfriend loved the shaded cabana as he's less of a sun worshipper than me, so was a very welcomed addition. The short drive to the local restaurants of Sao Bras was easy for us to do and all the reasonably priced restaurants served us all great food.

We absolutley loved our 10 days here and were sad to leave. We will definitely be back.

We have a minimum stay of 7 nights, but are flexible as regards stays of over a week depending on itineraries of other guests. If available additional days can be arranged, pro-rata. To secure the booking please send 25% of the total - bank details will be given for a BACS transfer, otherwise a cheque is fine. .

The balance is requested eight weeks before the date of arrival.

Changeover Day:
Changeover day is flexible depending on the itineraries of other guests. Normally check out is at 10.00 a.m. and check in is at 4.00 p.m., but if there are no other guests on a given day we can try and accommodate earlier or later times to suit.

Notes on prices:
The above prices are for a party of four people - for each extra person up to a maximum of 8 we add an extra £50.00 per week: there are are no hidden charges in our prices, and we give a generous complimentary welcome pack on arrival.
