Delightful Gite With Perfect Pool And Terrace

Overview

Property

Updated: 16-Oct-2016
Fabulous cottage and pool with total privacy in rural setting, near Loches, Indre-et-Loire, France - Peaceful Location, Lovely Orchards, 2 minutes from village with shops and cafe/bar.

Part of an ancient fermette, La Dependance retains all its rustic charm with outbuildings, greniers and orchards. The building’s restoration successfully blends traditional materials and modern furniture to provide visitors with comfortable, spacious accommodation. It is ideal for both families with children with plenty of space to run around and for adults seeking to explore one of the most historic, beautiful, interesting and gastronomic areas of France. The sitting/dining area of the Gite is generously proportioned and is furnished with a mixture of modern and antique furniture, comfortably seating 6 people. Visitors can dine inside - at the dining table inside which seats 6 easily (and has lovely views out to the orchard) or outside on the new terrace by the old bread oven.

"Great time had, especially enjoyed St Aignan and Loches. But best of all was just relaxing here". Jeff, Becky and Mac

"This is our second time staying in a Gite in France and this one was impossible to fault - fantastic location, so tranquil, a superb garden (full of fruit, you almost don't need to go to the supermarket) and a brilliant pool as well" Adam and Geraldine

"The gem is right on the doorstep. Montresor has a handy supermarket, a riverside walk, a beautiful and well furnished chateau and the not to be missed Cafe de la Ville" John and Sue

Idyllic house in beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

What a charming place! La Dependance is the perfect place to stay in a very relaxing situation in the beautiful countryside near Montresor. The Gite retains all its charm from years gone past with orchards and outbuildings all surrounded by quiet farmland. The accommodation is spacious, modern, well equipped and very comfortable. The area has lots to do in all weathers whether buying wine, visiting Loches on market day, Chateaux of the Loire, walking or biking. A perfect place for children who can swim and play safely. We felt very relaxed and would highly recommend it to anyone.

House in Beautiful Montresor

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in La Dependance - very peaceful with lovely views of the orchard and surrounding countryside. Accommodation was ideal for five adults and extremely comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped and a good bathroom (essential for five ladies!). There was lots of outside space for dining/relaxing, and we could've stayed by the gorgeous pool all day, but decided to take the short walk into Montresor to visit the local Chateau and have lunch in the sunshine at a local cafe - wonderful! Evenings were enjoyed in front of the wood-burning stove after a meal made with local produce, plenty of wine and good cheeses, bought during a visit to Loche market, only a short drive away. We all felt very relaxed after our visit to La Dependance and are planning to return this year. We would definitely recommend it for a superb getaway.

The Real Deal

  • 5 of 5

The photos don't really do this lovely place justice. Gite is part of a complex of ancient buildings that have been lovingly and appropriately restored over a number of years, yet nothing is overblown or overmanicured - it just smacks of age and quality, and restfulness. We were surprised and delighted on arrival and had a very happy stay - reading, swimming and exploring. Recommend very highly.

La Dependance

  • 5 of 5

We had a glorious two weeks at La Dependance! The gite was everything we hoped it would be and more: private, character-ful, comfortable and beautifully renovated with some lovely original features. The pool was a real delight and the canopied 'chill'out' area was a lovely way to escape the heat of the midday sun or relax while watching the sunset. We regularly walked into Montresor and made good use of the gorgeous patisserie; had breakfast at the cafe and used the supermarche for our essentials. The local area was well worth exploring and all in all we could not have asked for a more congenial set of hosts. Excellent wine selection at the local Tourist Information Office! We will return!!!

Further Details:

Next to ‘un des plus beaux villages de France’, Montresor – which itself has a citadel with two chateaux and the classic 12th century village hugging its feet – La Dependance offers everything you want from a holiday: an ancient traditional rural community with tranquillity to dream of, in beautiful wooded rolling countryside. Even so, it is within easy reach of Tours, a major city of France with attendant culture and shopping attractions. Food and wines are excellent and plentiful too: markets, vineyards and wonderful restaurants abound from towns nearby – Loches, St Aignan, Chatillon, Montrichard.

La Dependance is a one-kilometre walk via a track (or two by car) from Montresor, which has a bar, restaurant, bakery, supermarket, pharmacy, bank and tourist office, where good English is spoken. Loches, 10km away, is a much larger town with several restaurants, bars, hotels, shops, banks and specialist outlets/goods and services. The property is located close to a wide variety of activities.

A 'plan d'eau' at Chemille-sur-Indre provides water sports and fishing. Day tickets can be bought for river fishing.

Beautiful river walks in the two villages nearest to the house can be reached in a short stroll through rural scenery.

Tennis courts can be hired at Montresor and Loche-sur-Indre nearby.

Horse riding is available at local stables, including a natural horsemanship (Parelli) centre at Nouans-les-Fontaines.

Bicycles can be hired from Loches.

The Tourist Office in Montresor has details of all attractions including 'son et lumiere' productions, theatre, markets, festivals, 'brocantes' and antiques fairs, mushroom caves, not to mention all the Loire chateaux.

For wine enthusiasts, the area is famous for its excellent fresh Touraine Sauvignon white wines. Red – Gamay, Cot and Cabernet – are plentiful, easy drinking everyday wines at reasonable prices too. Vouvray, Chinon, Bourgeuil, Montlouis and Saumur-Champigny wines are in easy reach.

Notes:

  • Outside: Professionally built and installed, our 10m x 5m pool has a beige liner giving aquamarine-blue sparkling-looking water. It has curved steps leading down into it for paddling and sitting and chatting. The pool has a shallow end of approx 1.5m and a deep end of 2.5m. The pool and pool area is opened up for use at the end of May through to mid-September. There is a large flagged sitting out area surrounding the pool which includes shade under an ancient timbered roof. Large sofas line two walls, allowing the whole family to laze around. Sun-loungers and hammocks can be positioned in favourite spots and, for the active, a table-tennis table and bats are provided. The swimming pool area is safely enclosed with a low-level fence which allows views of our 2 acre orchard and fields beyond - all completely private. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bedding included; towels (both bath and swimming) and bedlinen can be provided extra. The property is cleaned prior to each visitor's arrival. Further cleaning can be arranged. Other: Beautiful outside covered terrace by the old bread oven is the perfect place for breakfast and evening drinks.
