villa with private pool + aircon, in Gulf of St Tropez, walk to beach and cafes

Overview

Property

Updated: 02-Dec-2016
Villa Near Grimaud, Var, Cote D'Azur, France - 900m To Sandy Beach, Pretty Hamlet Location

Villa Elica is a fully modernised charming Provencal house in the bay of St Tropez with private pool, and is furnished to a high standard. There are 4 double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and it sleeps 8. The house is spacious and can comfortably accommodate 2 families. The house is fully equipped, has wireless internet, reversible air-conditioning, pretty Mediterranean gardens and lovely views. You can dine either on the front terrace or in the back garden overlooking the pool, where there is a gas barbeque. It's 900m (10 minutes walk) to beautiful sandy beaches. It is 20 minutes walk to Port Grimaud which has a good selection of shops and waterside cafes and restaurants. It's 1 minute walk to the nearest shop and restaurant in summer, 5 minutes in winter. It's a short drive or water taxi ride to St Tropez. You can also cycle to St Tropez or St Maxine along the cycle path in about 40 minutes ( this is how long it takes us with 2 children). The house is a short drive to Grimaud ( about 10 minutes) and other picturesque hilltop villages. Whilst a car is handy it's not essential, and as well as being able to walk to the beach and the restaurants of Port Grimaud, it's 5 minutes walk to the bus stop, from which you can take a bus to St Tropez, Grimaud, St Maxine and St Raphael.

The price quoted is fully inclusive, including cleaning at the start and end, all linen and towels except beach towels and a local agent to meet and greet you and to be on hand if need be during your stay.

Note, there is air conditioning in all 3 upstairs bedrooms. Downstairs there is air-conditioning in the lounge/ dining room but not in the downstairs bedroom. This room has a fan and usually stays quite cool due to it's thick stone walls.

Downstairs there is a shower room and toilet, upstairs there is a bathroom and toilet.

We've made the house a home from home and you'll find a good selection of books, CD's, DVD's and board games.

About the Owner

We are a family of 4 who live in London. After having 3 wonderful holidays in this part of France we decided to take the plunge and buy our dream holiday house in 2013. This is a beautiful part of France, where we feel there is something for everyone, and we are looking forward to sharing our home with you.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This has been our first year of renting; it was enjoyed by all and here are a selection of the comments we received;

The house was great, perfect for family with young children. It exceeded our expectations. ( June 2014)

We really enjoyed walking to Port Grimaud and taking a boat trip to St Tropez. We hardly used the car which was great. (June 2014)

We had a wonderful holiday, will be recommending it to friends and would seriously consider coming back again. ( June 2014)

Grimaud and the surrounding area has it all - one of those precious pieces of paradise on earth ( July 2014)

Perfect location - very secluded and yet within walking distance to the beach and shops (August 2014)

We had a lovely time. The house catered to all of our needs and we felt very at home. We were sad to leave! ( September 2014)

A wonderful holiday

  • 5 of 5

A perfect location making our stay an ideal hub from which to explore the best of southern France in all its glory.

An easy short walk to the local beautiful beaches, cafés and atmospheric Venice like harbour setting of Port Grimaud. Also close to Saint Tropaz and its beaches which we found stunning.

The Villa with its front and rear double al fresco dining facilities provides a great place to relax and socialise with independence.

We really appreciated having our own pool, decked area and loungers amidst lush mature plants in our own secluded garden.

A beautiful, tastefully decorated villa with all the facilities we could have wished for.

Would love to return.

Location

From the Owner

Our house is close enough to walk to the beach and the many restaurants and cafes of Port Grimaud, and is an easy cycle ride to St Tropez without the St Tropez price tag! The area is famed for its beautiful beaches and pretty hilltop villages.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Nice at 65 Miles Nearest Restaurant : at 200 Metres Nearest Beach : at 0.7 Miles Car: recommended

Special interest holidays:

Lots of nearby vineyards that offer wine tasting.

Coast/Beach:

The nearest beach is just 900m or 10 minutes walk away. It's a lovely sandy beach, usually calm, has beach bars and restaurants, and watersports as well as views straight across to St Tropez. If you prefer you can drive the couple of minutes to the beach as there is free parking nearby. The are many other beautiful beaches in the area including the famous Pampelonne bay. There is a coastal path right round the St Tropez penninsula which offers great walks around this unspoilt coastline.

Travel:

Toulon airport (Ryanair) 45min drive, Nice (easyjet and many others) 1 hour 20minutes. Marsielle 2 hours. St Raphael TGV station 40 minutes. Avignon TGV ( direct trains from St Pancras in the summer) 2.5 hours. Calais approx 10-11 hours drive.

Car is recommended but it is possible to reach the property by public transport, as there is a bus stop 5 minutes walk from the house with buses to St Raphael train station and Nice airport ( 1 change)

Distances:

Port Grimaud 1 mile, Grimaud 3 miles, St Maxime 5 miles, St Tropez 5 miles

Nearby Domaine de Naiades campsite ( 1 minute walk from the house), has a minimarket, and poolside restaurant and bar which you are welcome to use, open April through September. At other times, the nearest shop is a boulangerie/ cafe/ patesserie at about 5 minutes walk.

The beach is approx 10 minutes walk, and has several beach bars. There is a walkway under the coast road, so you don't need to cross any main roads.

Further Details:

Nearby Port Grimaud ("the Venice of the South of France") has a large selection of shops and restaurants. It is a lovely place to wander around the marina and canals, or rent your own electric boat to go exploring! There are frequent water taxis to St Tropez and St Maxime. Children will love the little train that goes from Port Grimaud up to Grimaud village, which is a picturesque hilltop village about 3 miles away and well worth a visit. There are many other lovely villages nearby including Gassin and Ramatuelle.

It is possible to cycle along a cycle path to St Maxime or St Tropez in about 40 minutes. St Tropez needs no introduction, but St Maxime is also a charming seaside town with lots to do and see. Our children love Parc Azur, about 3 miles away, an evening funfair open all summer with something for everyone. There is also crazy golf and go karting here. There is a fun water park in St maxime.

The beaches and swimming in this area are magnificant, and it's easy to see why the rich and famous have chosen it as a favoured spot, although anyone can enjoy the riches of the area!

The area is quite lively in summer, but it's really easy to get away from it all, a few minutes up into the hills or along the coastal path around the St Tropez peninsula ( only accessible by boat, canoe etc. or on foot).

The beautiful Gorges de Verdon, the biggest canyon in Europe, are 90 minutes away(swimming, hiking, cycling, adventure sports). Cannes, Nice or Monaco make great day trips. Why not time your visit to co-incide with the film festival or Grand prix?

Outside: At the front of the property there is a mature Mediterranean style garden. The gardens are very private. There is table tennis. There are steps up to the front dining terrace which is a suntrap and has beautiful rural views. Table and chairs for long lunches, sundowners etc and a rocking chair for complete relaxation! At the back of the house is the tropical decked garden which includes an octagonal pool, approx 13 feet across in each direction. Dining table and chairs, 4 sun loungers, parasol.
