Why Andrew Frith chose Carcassonne surroundings

Polfages is somewhere that my family and I think of as truly special. Every time I walk the dogs or just sitting and take in the views I realizes how lucky we are.

From the views that stretch away into the forever distance to the clean pure air that comes from the stunning Pyrenees. Taking the in the silence of the countryside to watching the hawks spiraling upwards into the clear blue sky.

Polfages really is where the Mountains meet the Sea and there is a world of things to do in between to suit everyone. At Polfages you really are able to have the best of all worlds. From sitting by the pool relaxing with stunning views and tranquility while recharging your batteries to being able to visit some of the most historic sites, towns and castles in all of France. Learn about the history of the Cathars and how the Canal du Midi was built joining the Atlantic to the Mediterranean. If you would like to include mountains activities in your holiday then the Pyrenees are only 45 minutes away, or in just over an hour you can spend time on the Mediterranean beaches.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Fionnuala stayed with us in June and this is what she had to say about her holiday at Polfages,

We visited Polfages in June 2015 for a week. Andrew and Jo Frith were excellent hosts. The information supplied in advance of our arrival was comprehensive and of great help. The accommodation was very well equipped, comfortable and welcoming. The location is truly beautiful. The website provides an accurate description of what to expect from your visit. On arrival we availed of a generous and tasty evening meal which is an optional service provided by the Friths. We would recommend this. A BBQ is also provided, which proved useful. We highly recommend Polfages.

Welcoming hosts , excellent accomadation.

  • 5 of 5

We just love to go to Polfages , and indeed have returned there every year since Jo , Andrew, and Jasmine arrived and have opened it up for visitors . Part of the attraction of this wonderful holiday is that the hosts are so welcoming to all of us who go there . We have always received excellent service on every holiday that we have ever had there . That coupled with the superb accommodation , excellent facilities, beautiful views and friendly welcome make it a must to visit .

The surrounding countryside is absolutely beautiful. We love to go to the Castle in Carcassone and indeed make it an annual trip now . The market in Mirepoix is also a must to visit . Mirepoix with its little bars and shops is an absolute delight and well worth a visit. We just love it .

The property itself is beautiful and every time I approach it on an annual visit I feel so happy to return there . The gites are always spotlessly clean and well maintained . The fact that I return year after year speaks volumes . I just love going there and catching up with the family and of course the dogs , cats, goats and all ......Always a warm welcome on every visit from all ....

Without hesitation I would welcome Polfages to anyone . We will be back next year Jo Andrew and Jasmin ......

Long May weekend stay i a beautiful Villautou gite

  • 4 of 5

The property is in a stunning, peaceful location with breathtaking views across the French country side. It is spacious, clean, well maintained with lovely comfortable furnishings. The customer service was excellent, a catering service is available if required, I can highly recommend the fresh homemade pizzas, they were delicious & very welcome on our first evening of arrival! The owners are very friendly have a great knowledge of the local area & restaurants. On recommendation we visited the spa town of Ax-Les-Thermes at the foot of the snow topped Pyrenees & the views were spectacular. We also visited the superb spa complex fed by the warm water that rises naturally in the town. The nearby town of Mirepoix has plenty of great places to eat and is well worth a visit especially on Market day. I would highly recommend this property, we had a wonderful holiday & hope to return in the future. Thank you.

Great gites in an idyllic location

  • 5 of 5

The gites at Polfages are a great place to relax and unwind. This is our second year, choosing this time to stay in Mazamet (the largest). The views from the gite and pool are stunning and the properties are all equally well finished. Andrew and Jo do a great job of looking after you and have started doing great pizzas to order on those nights where the BBQ seems too much effort. The property is great if you have dogs as you can walk straight off the end of the garden and go for as long or short as you like through fields of corn and sunflowers.

The location is nice a rural with silence in abundance yet Mirepoix is only 15mins away and Bram, Castelnaudry, Montbel (Lake) and Carcasonne not much further away.

No doubt we will be back.

Stylish and extrememly clean gite, with lovely Laura Ashley bed linen and throws.

  • 5 of 5

We arrived at 12.30 p.m. after a long journey from Paris, but we were still greeted with a warm welcome by our host Andrew, the owner of Polfages. We had pre-ordered a meal and this was ready for us even at such a late hour. This was a gastronomic feast, consisting of baguetes, fruit, wine, juice and chocolate mouse. Our gite was immaculate and the decor attractive and to a very high standard. The view from the pool was over looking filelds of sunflowers with the pyreenees as a back drop. I felt like a celebrity sunning myself my the pool with a view to die for. Jo, Andrews wife was so kind and couldnt do enough to help us. She even managed to get a stain out of my white capri pants. And this lovely couple even offered to baby sit the childrenvso we could have a night to our self. During our time at Villatou we visited the beautiful beach at Narbonne le Page and several stunning historic citys, including Mirepouix, Carcasonne and Narbonne le Cite. I can highly reccomend Polfages to other families looking for a wonderful holiday. I would rate it higher than any other holiday we have had! But I would rather keep this slice of heaven to myself incase it is fully booked next year! We will be booking early to avoid disappointment!
