Overview

About the property

Cottage in The Luberon Natural Park, Viens, Vaucluse, France - Set In A Unique Domaine - In A World Of Its Own

Set in a calm, quiet and private valley of exceptional natural beauty, the stone-built cottage offers extensive views over the Luberon countryside, the surrounding woodlands and 3.5 hectares of beautifully landscaped gardens with a wide variety of specimen trees and flowering shrubs.

The cottage has a pretty terrace, which overlooks the private swimming pool and the valley beyond. There is not another house - or another person - in sight. Because it is so peaceful, the valley of I'Argentiere is a refuge for migrating birds from Africa as well as deer, hare and wild boar.

Although the emphasis is very much on seclusion and privacy, the owners live on the property and will welcome you and give any help and advice you need but, otherwise, will remain unobtrusive.

On the inside, the cottage is a charming mix of old and new - with all the comforts of home. A wealth of antiques and many carefully-chosen paintings from the owner's Art Gallery add elegance to the comfort offered by the king-size double bed. The cottage has WIFI. The reading/leisure room has a television with a DVD with large selection of films, a CD player with a selection of classics and jazz - plus talking tapes and numerous books. This same room can accommodate an extra bed, and has a cosy wood-burning stove. There is a modern shower plus heated towel rail, and a separate toilet and basin. The spacious kitchen dining room - equipped with gas cooker and oven, microwave and washing machine - looks out onto the large private terrace, where there is plenty of seating and barbecue.

Please note - access to the cottage is by a flight of very old stone steps, which may be unsuitable for those with limited mobility.

L'Argentiere belongs to the commune of Viens, a village perched on a hill some three km distant, which has a grocery store, bar and restaurant, while Céreste, just six km away, has two restaurants offering excellent meals at reasonable prices, 2 bakeries, 2 grocery stores, a butcher, a bank, a post office and a pharmacy.

At Domaine de l'Argentiere, you are within easy reach of medieval villages and Roman remains. The Prieure de Carluc, a resting place for pilgrims on their way to Compostela, (listed Monument Historique), lies immediately to the east of Céreste. Within a few kilometres, there are countless activites - from horse riding to hot air ballooning and from walking to wine tasting - an ever-popular local pastime.

There is now a wood-burning stove in the enlarged sitting-room.

A bad can be put in the sitting room for a relative.

Luxe, calme et volupte

I'm afraid no words can accurately describe or give justice to Dora and Adrian's cottage...

We had been traveling around Europe for a few weeks prior to landing in Provence and as much as we loved every second of it, we were in dire need of peace and tranquility. Seems like we hit the jackpot with this place.

The property is a labor of love, 30 years in the making, and every little detail reflects that. Tucked away in the vallee de l'Argentiere, it is truly a little peace of heaven where tradition and the comforts of modern life blend seamlessly to make your stay there an unforgettable experience. While the cottage has everything you could possibly need, I bet you that you won't do much more than sleep there because just outside your door is breathtaking nature. It was incredible for us, New Yorkers, to be surrounded by 360 green beauty

If you decide to leave for day trip adventures (and it's hard to do so) there are many beautiful, typical provencal villages around.

Adrian and Dora are a truly wonderful, inspiring couple. They will make sure you enjoy your stay while being respectful of your privacy. Getting to know them was a treat...

I could endlessly wax poetic about the Argentiere but I will instead make sure that soon, we return.

Wonderful

Part of me didnt want to write a review, I didnt want it to get so booked I couldnt ever come back! But... the owners feel like such dear friends now I think it would be doing wrong to not say something.

We came on our honeymoon, and left with a memory of the place and the owners that will forever be in my heart. Just perfect, the absolute best of the best in every way and I miss the place and my friends already
