We are Barbara and Chris Wood your hosts, although we bought in the 90's we only moved here in 2000 we were both born in London in the 40's and felt it was time to move to our sleepy village and started the massive renovation project which is still ongoing. Chris is a Coppersmith by trade and i worked in childcare for most of my working career. We are very happy in France and go back to England regularly to visit family and friends.
Barbara or Chris Wood purchased this house in 1990
We hope you will appreciate our property as much as we do, although the village is quite rural we are in easy reach of three large towns Amiens, Abbeville and Arras
all withing a 40 minute drive.
We feel it has the best of both worlds although peaceful, we can get to Paris in 2 hrs or the beaches in an hour.
We both fell in love with this property at first site, all the features in the main house eg an old bread oven and inglenook fireplaces. The walls are of the traditional torshi (wood and packed straw) warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
The converted barns were originally to house the cattle. There was no ceiling or stairs the top landing was the hayloft , so its been a labour of love for both of us, and we have never lost that enthusiasm.
The house was exactly as shown in the listing. Very clean and all amenities provided.
Barbara and Chris left a welcome package which was greatly appreciated.
Ideal spot for touring World War 1, locations
The house was spotlessly clean
Absolutely beautiful house in a great wee village. Fully stocked supermarket and a bakery for daily fresh bread just around the corner. We had come here to allow our 88 year old mother to visit the Somme area and the downstairs bedroom and bathroom was ideal for her. As soon as you walked in to the house you felt at home. Spotless and equipped with everything you could possibly need and more, all the stuff you would have in your own home and kitchen. Not like other rental properties that if they accommodate 8 there's 8 knives, 8 forks etc. Lovely welcome pack waiting for us too. Delightful outside eating area which the weather allowed us to use often. Great location to explore all the surrounding towns and beautiful countryside. I could genuinely not recommend the property more highly. Many thanks for a wonderful stay, Tony McCann and family.
Barbara & Chris were very pleasant & helpful hosts. The house had everything we needed for a family of 7 including English TV & DVD player with a selection of DVDs.There was a washing machine & tumble dryer. The house was situated in a small village with, bar, shop & bakers & a short drive from Doullens for a larger supermarket.Unfortunately for us we had atrocious weather which really spoilt our time there but that was just our bad luck.
There was a lovely patio set & barbecue but because of the weather we were unable to take advantage of them. There was a bathroom & 3 bedrooms upstairs & a twin room & shower /toilet downstairs which was ideal for us( Grandma & Granddad).Everything was clean & comfortable with towels provided. All in all it was a clean, comfortable & welcoming place to stay.
What a fantastic stay. Barbara and Chris are amazing and think of everything. The location was superb and handy for all the places we wanted to visit. They are amazing people and it is like home from home. We had the best time. Thank you both so much
Fantastic week spent in Candas. Barbara & Chris are great hosts and made us very welcome. Comfortable, spacious and well equipped property. It was a lovely Easter break for our family of six. Within easy reach of all nearby points of interest. Lovely Boulangerie in Candas, the owner was very friendly. Would definitely recommended.
What a joy to arrive in such a welcoming, comfortable space. Barbara is a great host, and this house was perfect for us, a family of four. We only wish we could have stayed longer! This is well situated for a host of French cultural experiences, the Somme Valley and the war memorials being one, but we also found it a quick and easy jaunt to the seaside at Le Crotoy, The Underground Village at Naours, a host of pleasant Auberge's and other restaurants suitable for both parents and kids (10 and 13 years). Wifi and UK TV (along with a decent CD system) made entertaining the kids that bit easier. The barbeque also paid its debt with several quick and delicious meals made there.
This home has been built with love, so cleverly crafted, with a myriad of hand-fashioned features, so that everywhere you look there's a little upcycled piece of furniture, a window or a door, restored and given a new lease of life. The photos don't really do justice to the joy that's been put in to the building of this place. We came to the end of our week's stay, and just wanted to stay longer. Thanks to Barbara for being such a lovely host and although we never met Chris, thanks to him too for all the joy we got from his creative handiwork!
