The cottages have been recently converted to provide the ideal background for family holidays. They are light and bright and cosy in winter. The Wool Store is very spacious with a mezzanine area above the kitchen for individual entertainments. The Clipping Shed also has an extra indoor play area upstairs. The other 2 cottages are open plan and well organised. Cooking facilities are good and the owner's home made cakes go down very well! Each house has its own garden and patio for sitting out and to enjoy the fabulous views. There are sheds for bicycles. Blair Castle and walled garden is one mile away. The village has 2 good shops, a post office, an interesting local museum, 2 pubs and a working water mill and cafeteria. We are surrounded by places to visit, wonderful nature and wildlife and the very best walking and cycling opportunities.

The Clipping Shed has a double bedroom and twin room with zip and link beds that can be made into a double.

On the ground floor the living room has double doors leading out on to the patio with garden furniture. There is a dining table with 4 chairs, a comfortable sofa and chairs, a modern flat screen TV with Freeview channels and DVD player.

The kitchen is well-equipped with a modern electric oven, a microwave, fridge, dish washer and a washing machine and dryer.

Also on the ground floor are the bedrooms and bathroom with shower, toilet and basin.

A spiral starcase leads upstairs from the kitchen to a sitting area with television, DVD player and keyboard, ideal for young people to amuse themselves.

This property has parking for 2 vehicles, ground source heating throughout, a stereo with CD player and Wifi Broadband Internet Access.

Well behaved dogs are most welcome.

The owners supply a welcome pack with bread, butter, milk, eggs, tea, coffee, sugar and a home made cake.

Andrew and Lavinia Gordon live in converted steadings a mile and a half away from the Tom of Lude. Andrew is a farmer, builder and practical guy who can mend most things given the time and energy.

Lavinia is a retired piano teacher who loves making cakes.

We have 3 children and 5 grandchildren and we are much enjoying our holiday cottage business.

Perfect cottage in a perfect setting

We arrived later in the evening than planned but the cottage was very warm, welcoming, homely and clean. The owners had left us a wonderful homemade lemon cake along with eggs, milk and bread. The cottage is in a stunning position with views over Blair Athol and beyond and is perfect for a restful break with good walks in all directions. Great people to deal with and we will book this again.

Beautiful situation and lovely property

In an amazing spot with incredible views.

The property was spotlessly clean and comfortable.

The kitchen was very small for the size of property and we did find that there was just enough cutlery etc, always nicer to have more though!

Lovely to have a garden with a view and the furniture to enjoy it properly!

Lavinia was incredibly helpful and our booking was easy.

As a family of 5, we would love to see if there was a teeny bit more space in the other properties as we would love to visit again but would enjoy a bigger kitchen (and possibly another bathroom?).

All in all, a very good experience in a lovely location. The walks in the area are amazing.

Nice property in a stunning location

We had a lovely holiday, our second time in the cottage. Very comfortable and well looked after by the owner.

Lots to do in the area, but we were particularly there because we had several friends and family members who were able to visit us. My husband is disabled and one of the reasons for choosing the property was the ease of access and spacious bedroom and bathroom.

Would recommend it to friends and family.

A great find for family with dog

High quality dog friendly accommodation with great views and homemade cake on arrival - what more could we ask for? In our experience dog friendly accommodation often comes with a compromise - not so with The Clipping Shed which scores highly on all fronts for us: well laid out & spacious (the wee den was a big plus for both adults and child), well equipped, clean, fresh, secure garden for dog and decent wifi. The owners clearly give a lot of care and attention to their holiday business and were very welcoming. We will recommend Tom of Lude cottages to any looking to stay in this area and will be back!

Great place for big groups

Stayed as part of a gropu of 18 friends, some with small children for a hill walking holiday. The holiday worked really well as some of the properties of large communal areas. We felt very welcomed by owners and we very happy with the properties.

From the Owner

Andrew inherited the estate and properties 40 years ago. We were anxious to include diversification into our farm plan, thereby bringing in visitors from far afield or close at hand. The area lends itself to tourism which combines very well with the workings of our farm. We hope that the experience of coming to stay at the Tom of Lude not only offers a welcome break but also an insight into the workings of a small livestock farm in the heart of the highlands.

Pitlochry is 7 miles away. Pitlochry Festival Theatre open all the year run

Aberfeldy - 20 miles. Cinema and swimming pool.

Dunkeld - a very scenic small town with Cathedral and quality shops is 20 miles away.

Perth - 35 miles with Scone Palace nearby.

Glamis Castle - 35 miles.

Balmoral Castle - 60 miles.

Further Details:

There are 2 village shops, post office, 2 nice gift shops and the Working Water Mill Cafe selling home made bread, oatmeal, flour and some gifts(open between April 1st and October 31st).

Two hotels with pubs in the village. Both serve food.

Nearest supermarket is a good Co-op in Pitlochry, excellent butcher that also sells fish, and a good pub/restaurant in Killiecrankie, 4 miles away.

Pitlochry Festival Theatre is now open all the year round and there is a variety of small restaurants in the town

There is a small swimming pool behind the Tilt Hotel.

A very interesting local museum, ranger activities for children.

Fish and chips and pizzas are on sale near the museum, also bicycle hire.

The Tom of Lude Steadings boast the very best views on the estate. We decided that the buildings were wasted for subsidiary farm use and so conversion into holiday cottages seemed to be the obvious answer. The cottages are remote, and yet only a mile away from the village and amenities, and we felt that this idyllic spot would provide an ideal place for a holiday for all ages and stages.

  • Notes on accommodation: Our houses are recently converted to a high standard of comfort and cleanliness. All linen and fresh towels are provided. For guests who stay for longer than a week, clean sheets and towels are provided weekly, plus cleaning on request. The houses are bright, light and warm thanks to our ground and air source heating. The kitchens are well equipped , but they vary in size and style to try to accommodate all tastes. There is an atmosphere of relaxation and homeliness to which our many happy clients have contributed. This area, within the Cairngorms National Park has much to offer holiday makers at any time of year. Outside: Each house has its own garden with garden furniture and there is a communal play area at the back of the cottages. There are garden sheds for bicycles.
