About the property

Llanberis - Peaceful And Tranquil Setting In The Hills Of Cwm Y Glo (near Llanberis)

The cottage is fully equipped for modern dining and has original fireplaces (1900) in 2 bedrooms, open log fire, BBQ and decking. The cottage is equipped with toys, books, maps, CD's, DVDs and a Sony PlayStation. Lovely character cottage for relaxation and 'getting away from it all but yet it is close enough to the local shops, restaurants, museums and other local attractions. The nearest beach is only 30 minutes away in Anglesey. A perfect place to visit. Ideal for those who enjoy the great outdoors. You will not be disappointed.

About Lisa Grantham

My husband, Rob and I live on the Wirral with our two children, Ben (aged 8) and Emma (aged 6). Our cottage has been in my Rob's family for over 40 years. It belonged to his parents and it is where my Rob spent most of his school holidays with his brother!! We took over the running and maintenance of the cottage in 2012 when it became too much for Rob's parents. It was completely renovated and decorated and is now being enjoyed by many. Rob and I love the outdoors and we are both very keen fell runners. We have spent many a day exploring the Welsh hills and have loved every minute of it.

Lisa Grantham purchased this cottage in 1965

Why Lisa Grantham chose Llanrug

The cottage overs so much in that it is peaceful and relaxing but yet it is close enough to the many sights of Wales and outdoor activities. It has many original features from when it was first built in 1900 (fireplaces in the bedrooms and the internal doors).

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage benefits from views of the Welsh hills and the characterful ambience of an open log fire!

Good Base to see Anglesey and Snowdonia areas. The house was lovely with open fire.

Lovely cottage - but only for the warmer months

  • 3 of 5

While the cottage is lovely and in a nice location, we found it too cold, the storage heaters in the bedrooms did not seem to be working so the bedrooms were very cold all the time.

I think a curtain over the archway to the stairs would help keep the heat in the living room, as with any open fire most of the heat is lost up the chimney, so ended up using nearly a whole basket of wood in a day. Strangely the only warm room was the dinning room which we never used.

We have stayed in a cabin in Scotland with storage heaters in the winter which was much warmer in colder weather.

Would recommended it for the warmer months only.

Owner's Response: I would like to reassure anyone wishing to book that the cottage has storage heaters and a log fire that generates sufficient heat to warm the cottage. Regretfully the guests that left this review experienced an issue with the electrics. I was not informed of this issue during the guests' stay otherwise I would have set about seeking to resolve the problem immediately. Since the electrics tripped, causing the upstairs heaters to shut down an electrician has attended and restored the heaters to full working order and replaced a number of parts. Many guests have stayed during the winter months (over Christmas and New Year) and have not experienced any issues regarding the heating and in fact booked again for the following year!! In addition, we take on board the comment regarding the curtain over the archway and will look at having one fitted.
