About ian robertson

I am a retired civil servant, my wife is German and we have three grown up children. Our own home is in Chandler's Ford, Hants, a 75 minute drive from Swanage. We have a house manager to clean the house after each tenancy and to deal with any matters requiring immediate action (including the hiring out of bed linen and towels.)

ian robertson purchased this house in 2011

Why ian robertson chose Purbeck

We love the Isle of Purbeck for its scenery, cliff walks and pleasant, easy going people, many of whom have come to live there from other parts of the UK.

What makes this house unique

A particularly pleasant feature is its south facing garden. Hedging screens it partially from the overview of houses at the top of the Close (this marks the boundary of the estate - the open fields beyond are visible from the upstairs).

clean,quiet,well equipped, very good location.

  • 5 of 5

This is a modern three bedroom semi. It is very clean and well equipped. There is a small rear garden which is nicely secluded. The location is quiet but you are only a 20 minute walk into the centre of lovely Swanage town. There is easy access to footpaths just behind the property which take you to the cliffs. Its probably about 40 minutes walk. There are lots are unimproved pastures full of wild flowers and butterflies and of course the coastal scenery is very special..

Owner's Response: Thank you, Dale. I'm glad you liked the house and the area. From the end of our Close it is only a one mile cross country walk to get to the spectacular coastal scenery of Worth Matravers and Chapmans Pool.

Good property but shame about the neighbours

  • 1 of 5

Despite requesting by email the beds were not made up when I arrived. Owner gives ridiculously large list of rules which make you feel uncomfortable. Grass very long in back garden, neighbours very unfriendly and even made it very difficult to reverse our car from the drive obviously there is a ongoing issue. My comments were emailed directly to owner but he has failed to respond.

Owner's Response: The guests left early without advising the owner or housekeeper. One key fob from a set of three made specially for the owner was missing. The key was added to another fob. The housekeeper's laundry bill was not settled before they left despite an invoice being left on the mantle. And it was only paid after two weeks of chasing. ( please note that bedding and towels are an arrangement between guest and housekeeper and that the owner allows guests to take their own) The beds were made up within an hour of the oversight being reported and apologies were accepted by the guests at the time. Our neighbours are normally friendly and never park their car so that it is impossible to reverse onto the public highway in ONE simple manoeuvre. Joining information consists of less than 2 pages of A4 addressing matters of obvious interest to new arrivals. Rules about dogs run to about four lines. The grass is cut regularly but admittedly may have been long on this occasion. Asked to rate the guest, the owner gave a poor overall marking BUT IMPORTANTLY the website did not allow for reasons to be given.

Home from Home

A welcoming bolt hole for our adventures in and around Swanage. A good size for us and our two children, with everything that we needed. The children loved the house and it had a lovely homely feeling to it. Great communication throughout and at a very reasonable price.
