About Tony and Carole Sharkey

Having completely restored the cottage we started to rent it as a holiday cottage during summer 2012. The cottage is a great base for a family holiday to explore the Lake District with great walks from the doorstep. It is a peaceful and relaxing cottage to return to after a days activities and we are quite sure you will enjoy staying here.

Tony and Carole Sharkey purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Tony and Carole Sharkey chose Penrith

Dockray is a super little village well located between Glenridding/Ullswater and the busier Keswick side of the Lake District National Park. There are great walks and cycle routes right from the doorstep, a lovely pub next door always welcoming after a lovely day in the Lakes.

Nearby Ullswater is great for boating, sailing, taking the steamer or just relaxing at the many small beaches that surround our end of the lake.

Local hotels and restaurants are great - we would recommend having lunch or afternoon tea in the orangery at Inn on the Lake, a special treat at the Sharrow Bay, or just popping in for a pint at The Royal is great too....

For shopping there are fantastic supermarkets and shops at both Penrith and Keswick. If you like wild-life do visit the Birds Bistro at Penruddoc

What makes this cottage unique

Rose Cottage is really nicely furnished and equipped inside - it is clean and tidy and not too fussy having quite a contemporary feel inside yet a very traditional cottage exterior.

The gardens are very private and great for relaxing on a sunny day. There are frequent visitors to the garden including red squirrels and many rare and other birds including wood peckers.

Its great to explore this area of the lakes which has so much to offer those that love the great outdoors.

Coming back to the cosy cottage and snuggling up in front the log burning stove with a hot chocolate or a glass of wine is so nice, we know you will love it...

Delightful cottage in the heart of the Lake District National Park
average rating of 4.8 based on 6 reviews

An inviting, cosy and ideally located cottage.

  • 4 of 5

Lovely and cosy, secluded cottage in a very, central, lake location. The cottage had all we required and a bargain at price compared to others locally.

You are near many essential Lakeland activities such as walks, boating, cruises and of course good food and coffee at the pub next door.

The owners were very responsive to a couple of hiccups but we were most comfortable.

Exceedingly nice

  • 5 of 5

I spent the weekend at Rose cottage and had a fantastic time. I was looking for somewhere that would be warm, had a log burner, access to the lakes and hills and would be a great place to rest after being out hill walking, the cottage was perfect for that.

It's in a lovely wee village and was only a short walk to the local country pub, which was great after a day out walking.

I'd recommend it.

Dockray Cottage

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful time we had at this beautiful cottage in the very small village of Dockray in the lake district.

The cottage was very clean and cosy, with a spacious family bath, room 2 single rooms and a double room (with one of the most comfortable beds I have slipped in outside of my own home) a roomy living/dinning area and a well equipped kitchen.

There is a small summer house in the garden, where you will find a selection of outdoor furniture. There is also a outdoor room where you could store bikes, walking boots, rucksacks if you brought them.

One of the most endearing factors was the shear piece and tranquility of the area. On our first evening we were sitting outside in the garden and my wife said to me "listen to that" I did listen intently for a minute or two and I said to her "I can't hear anything" and she replied "yes, isn't it wonderful"

This holiday property does the owners Tony and Carole prod. All in all, this is a wonderful cottage in a beautiful setting and we will be back again to holiday there in the future!

Rose Cottage

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful little cottage tucked away in an equally delightful hamlet, Rose Cottage is an idyllic place to spend a relaxing break. About a mile from Ullswater and the surrounding towns, you are never far from almost anywhere in the lakes, yet still far enough "away from it all" to be able to really enjoy your break. Well equipped and very comfortable, Rose Cottage is an ideal retreat to escape to, but still close enough to all amenities. The perfect holiday destination - thank you !!!
