Cottage in Grasmere, Lake District, Cumbria, England - Centrally Located For Grasmere Village And Favourite Wainwright Walks

Laurel Cottage, a stones throw from the centre of Grasmere, dates from around 1705 and retains many period features. Beautifully refurbished, the cottage now has an open plan ground floor with a modern kitchen, separate dining area and relaxing lounge, with a wealth of exposed beams and a log burner. Smart TV and free WIFI are included and the traditional cast iron radiators provide a warm and welcome retreat at the end of the day. Both bedrooms have en-suite bath or shower facilities.

Externally a small landscaped garden to the side of the property allows for private entertaining and dining, while at the front of the property there is ample off-road parking, rare so close to Grasmere Village centre. Access to walks from Laurel Cottage, include the famous Helm Crag immediately behind the cottage.

The cottage cannot accommodate children under 12 years old, or pets. Our changeover day is FRIDAY.

Grasmere secret

First time back to the Lakes since childhood Laurel Cottage is excellent, finished to the highest standard, so close to the honey pot village and a wide range of walks stright out the door, we will definitely return - a wonderful surprise for everyone who stays here

A wee gem

Laurel Cottage is delightful. It has been tastefully renovated and provides everything you could wish for.

It is so close to the centre of Grasmere but has a very quiet location. We mostly enjoyed eating in enjoying the ambience of our surroundings though we did enjoy a lovely meal at The Jumble Room.

There is a lovely small garden and we were lucky enough to enjoy breakfasting outside.

I would definitely recommend this property and hope to go back sometime

Stunning cottage!

What a beautiful week we had. The sun never stopped shining and this cottage is stunning. The owners have exquisite taste and everything inside it is excellent quality. We spent many an hour sitting in the lovely garden watching and listening to the landscape and wildlife.

Ideally situated in the centre of the village. We will be back! Thank you. X

An Outstanding Cottage

This is a beautiful cottage right in the centre of Grasmere village - the best property we have ever stayed in. It has private parking in front of the property and the bonus for us was the quiet and secluded garden to the side which has wonderful views of the hills beyond. The owners have lovingly restored this 2-bedroom cottage (which we found out is over 300 years old) to an extremely high quality standard throughout. The beds are the most comfortable we have ever slept in and all the equipment, furniture and fittings are top quality. There are several Wainwright walks to be done straight out of the front door and all the village shops, cafes and restaurants are within 5 minutes walk - so no need to drive anywhere at all! Thank you to Derek and Karen - we will definitely want to book again.

Excellent Cottage

Beautifully renovated cottage, with extremely comfortable beds. The owners have paid great attention to detail and used locally sourced products to ensure the cottage is in keeping with the environment. It's garden is enclosed and well maintained. The cottage is in an ideal location for the town of Grasmere and local walks. Will definitely be returning in the near future.

Grasmere village is a gem in the Lake District, and we kept returning here on holiday. When we saw the cottage, close to the centre of the village and with a garden, but pretty run down, we saw the potential to create the perfect holiday home.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Train : Windermere Station at 8 Miles Car: recommended

Travel:

By road Grasmere is on the A591, 40 mins from junction 36 of the M6.

The nearest train station is Windermere, a 15 minute journey to connect to the nearest mainline station, Oxenholme The Lake District (on the London Euston to Glasgow line).

Windermere 8 miles

Further Details:

Grasmere is the historical home of William Wordsworth at Dove Cottage as well as his family resting place in the local church yard. In addition Sarah Nelson's historic gingerbread shop often sees queue waiting around the corner for the shop to open. In the summer Grasmere hosts local art exhibitions and is home to Gallery. The range of restaurants and pubs offer a wide choice of both menu and price from good pub grub to restaurant standard.

  • Notes on accommodation: The cottage has been fully and recently renovated to a high standard. On the ground floor ceiling heights are low in some areas because of historical beams that form part of the character of the property. Alli floors are slightly uneven reflecting the age of the cottage. Utility Room: The utility room stores useful household items including an airer, iron and ironing board and vacuum. It has a number of coat hooks, a small sink, microwave and a built-in washer dryer. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The cottage is professionally cleaned once a week which is included in the price. We provide high quality bed linen, duvets, blankets and throws and bath towels.
