About the Owner

We bought our house in this lovely part of France in 2011, and now live here permanently. There is a beautiful purpose-built gite attached to the main house. We have equipped the gite to a high standard, taking account of our experiences in many earlier gite holidays in France. We speak both English and French, live in the main part of the property and will be there to greet you on your arrival and to provide any local information required. We know how important holidays are to people, and will do everything we can to make your stay enjoyable.

Guestbook comments from the owner

...The balcony is spacious and private with lovely views over the pool and surrounding countryside to the mountains.

The large pool was the main draw to this holiday gite and we weren't let down. After unpacking we enjoyed an evening swim - a great start to the holiday and after using the pool every day we ended our holiday with a final evening swim.

...The gite itself was very clean, excellently presented, well equipped and Roger and Sara had made nice little touches that made the difference.

...Roger and Sara are very warm and welcoming. They were helpful in arranging bookings by phone and told us about local events. We had a great time in Monesties at the villages annual community dinner/fete! It's a great location. We swam in rivers, went to markets, visited several castles and climbed innumerable hills to see medieval villages and more

Well appointed, immaculate and great location.

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a wonderful week at this immaculate, well appointed and fantastically located gite. Panoramic views from gite, terrace and superb pool were a particular highlight. We enjoyed a couple of local walks from Monesties and cycle rides to, and around, the local reservoir as well as touring the Aveyron valley. Roger and Sara were ideal hosts and obviously take great pride in their superb property.

A Taste of French Hospitality

  • 5 of 5

This gite was by far the best we have ever stayed in. Superbly equipped and extremely comfortable, spotlessly clean. So peaceful and quiet with views to die for. The Tarn area of France offers plenty of interests for all tastes (both sporting and cultural) which are all on your doorstep. Sara and Roger were delightful hosts. We will definitely return and would certainly recommend it to friends and family.

The ideal place to recharge

  • 5 of 5

Les Hirondelles is a gite of the very highest standard in beautiful rolling countryside, equipped with everything you need for a home away from home. We enjoyed our time there last year so much that we returned this year. We divided our time between lounging in the sun, swimming in the pool (which is meticulously maintained & a lovely warm temperature) & visiting some of the many fascinating towns within an hour drive. The property is wonderfully peaceful, the only sounds breaking the silence are the odd tractor, a few cows & the plentiful birdlife. Roger & Sara are excellent, friendly hosts who are always on hand should you need any assistance. We would have no hesitation in recommending Les Hirondelles to anyone who is looking for some time away to fully recharge & relax.

Lovely hosts, lovely gite and lovely holiday.

  • 5 of 5

The facilities include everything you might need to relax an enjoy your holiday and were clean and well-presented on arrival. The car was particularly grateful for the shade of the garage. Sara and Roger were knowledgeable, helpful and friendly (but Roger is a bit of a boules-shark). The pool was fastidiously maintained, a good size and warm, The surrounding countryside was full of interesting and varied wildlife, with the local town of Monesties (5km) handy for the boulangerie, epicerie and a couple of bars, with boules competitions each Wednesday we were there. The Super-U (11km) is reasonably handy for victuals. We had a few touristy days (Albi is within an hour and worth a trip), but mostly we just lounged around relaxing and enjoying the local countryside and the Gaillac. We had a relaxing and enjoyable couple of weeks, but I wouldn't recommend it; as I want to be able to book here again.

Location

From the Owner

When we decided to move to this area the peace and quiet and magnificent views were big attractions, as well as the beautiful local towns and villages and the welcoming nature of the local people. We were impressed by the high quality of finish in both the house and the gite. Since arriving here we have discovered many local activities to suit all tastes from a seriously challenging ‘High Ropes’ course, and canoeing and kayaking, to local village festivals. There is also the lovely old city of Albi, part of which is a ‘World Heritage’ centre, with its old streets, amazing cathedral and fascinating Toulouse Lautrec museum (who was born in Albi). We are just over an hour's drive from the airport at Toulouse (as at 2016 Easyjet, British Airways, Jet2). Carcassonne airport is 2 hours away, serviced by Ryanair. We are also an hour's drive from Junction 59 on the A20 motorway.

Facilities

From the Owner

Our house and gite ‘Les Hirondelles’, named after the swallows who nest around us and keep us entertained with their acrobatics, is situated in a quiet hamlet, in deep farming country. You are guaranteed a peaceful and relaxing holiday. You may hear a tractor going by but other than that the main sounds you will hear will be birdsong. The whole property has stunning 180 degree views to the Black Mountains 40 miles (64km) away - on a clear day the Pyrenees are visible more than 100 miles (160km) away. There is a large, 12 metre by 6 metre unheated swimming pool equipped with loungers and parasols to laze away long sunny days. The pool is for the use of the gite clients but we may occasionally also take a dip. There are also many lovely walks in the area and a range of signed cycle paths.
