Barn near Freshwater East bay, Pembrokeshire, Wales - set in the peaceful hamlet of Lake, just 10 minutes walk to Freshwater East beach

A short drive from historic Pembroke and Tenby, West Barn is a luxury and spacious yet comfortable split-level barn conversion, nestling among the rolling hills of the Pembrokeshire National Park just a short walk from the coastal path, dramatic cliffs and sandy beaches of Freshwater East. You will be greeted by a large, stylish fully-equipped kitchen with integrated appliances, heated slate floor and high beamed ceiling. A farmhouse table is perfect for family meals. The lounge is drenched in natural light from large French doors and traditional windows as well as two velux windows. With comfortable sofas, antique furniture and warm oak floors, you can relax with a selection of books and DVDs, watch the large screen TV, or just gaze out at the garden watching farm animals grazing in the fields beyond.

Please note that a well-behaved dog is welcome, subject to conditions listed in the contract. Failure to declare pets or comply with the conditions may result in forfeiture of your damages deposit. For further details, please contact the owner before you book.

We fell in love with this property as soon as we saw it and knew it was a perfect holiday getaway. We loved the secluded grounds and location so close to the beach, with Tenby and Pembroke a short drive away.

Outside: West Barn sits in extensive grounds, with a large garden which includes a BBQ, patio furniture and kids' activities (provided by neighbours and subject to availability): zip wires, slides, swings and more. For the less energetic, there is a tower with a seating area and views across the nearby hills. The grounds lead over a couple of fields to the sea and the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path. Comfortable and well located but needing a bit of TLC

Not the five star luxury it promised. Nice cottage but could do with some upgrading now and some investment.Shower curtain inadequate and starting to mold. Bed linen past its best and 5 star would provide clean lounge rug(grubby), some milk on arrival for the much published welcome cup of tea and towels, leak under sink, poor oven(2 hrs to cook pizza!) Also never been asked to strip own beds before leaving. However comfortable property with friendly neighbours in a nice location.

Quite well located but required a car to do anything. Enjoyed our stay but mattress upgrade overdue

Stay hampered by my wife being knocked over by small child at Folly Farm - which wonderful for young and old - which required hospital treatment . Still recuperating with compromised mobility 3 weeks after stay. No fault of West Barn but beds not up to scratch, especially if nursing wounds. House otherwise great - well equipped, great spot for a family. But otherwise little within walking distance for young children.

Looks good in the pictures but not quite the same in real life

A bit off the beaten track through pretty tight lanes at some points so not the easiest arrival. Once there it looks impressive and inside it does have almost all you need for a self catering break (though it does say in the paperwork you'll have all you need for a cup of tea, that's true if you don't like milk in your tea!)

Some of the furniture is a bit tired not sure if that's on purpose to give a rustic feel or owner doesn't want to spend the cash as the toilet button was broken causing the toilet to keep flushing and when I tried to fix it you can see signs of a few previous repair efforts.

Wet room is not the best designed unless the purpose is to ensure every square inch of the floor gets wet as that's what happens but you are provided with a squeegee to mop it up after your shower!

Also seemed to be a fly infestation at the Velux windows to be fair they didn't really annoy you but a lot of dead ones lying about after a while.

Garden is great with a lot of activities: football net, 3 tree swings, badminton and trampoline. Also a wooden ship but not sure what you do with that? A duck enclosure and a couple of horses in the next field. Only issue is this doesn't belong to the cottage but to the neighbours who used to own the cottage so they allow you to use it but it does feel a bit like Big Brother is watching you and you can't really relax. Also the garden furniture is weather beaten and dirty you wouldn't really want to sit on it. The tower could do with a good sweep and some new furniture.

WiFi was good and Sky worked fine on Freeview, plus there are books, DVD's and board games provided so enough to keep you entertained. Rooms are all a good size and kitchen is well equipped with plates, cups, utensils etc

Overall it's good if you want a quiet break in the country and are happy to accept the bad points above. I wasn't blown away by it and wouldn't recommend it or return.

A relaxing get away

We had an enjoyable long weekend at the barn, it was extremely comfortable, clean and well equipped. The quiet county lanes were perfect for a relaxing stroll. The countryside and beaches in this area are beautiful, well worth a visit. Would recommend Sunday lunch at the Lamphey Hall Hotel, friendly staff and excellent food at a reasonable price.

Coast/Beach:

This part of Pembrokeshire is justly famous for its stunning coastline and path with cliffs and huge sandy beaches, many of which are quiet even in high Summer. This property is just 10 minutes walk To Freshwater East Beach or three minutes drive.

All other beaches in Pembrokeshire are well within reach and include Abereiddy, Amroth, Barafundle Bay, Broad Haven, Broad Haven South, Freshwater West, Manorbier, Marloes, Newgale, Poppit Sands, Saundersfoot, Tenby and Whitesands Bay.

For children there is an abundance of attractions including Folly Farm (vintage fair, wildlife park and other attractions), Manor Park (wildlife park), Oakwood (theme park), Dinosaur Land and Heatherton Park (adventure park) - all about 10 miles away.

For all visitors the picturesque walled fishing town of Tenby is a must, together with the more sedate Saundersfoot. From Tenby a boat trip to Caldey Island is unforgettable. Both Tenby and Saundersfoot are just 20 minutes drive away.

Castles abound and include Pembroke, Manorbier and Carew.

Other attractions:

Bosherston (lily ponds leading to Broadhaven Beach) - 5 miles

Stackpole Quay (National Trust Centre and cafe in secluded cove on the coastal path) - 3 miles

Barafundle Bay - 3 miles

Travel: Car is desirable.

Nearest train station (Lamphey): half mile away with services to Pembroke, Tenby, Swansea and beyond.

Fishguard and Pembroke Dock short drive for ferries to Ireland

Nearest Airport - Cardiff 1.5 hrs drive
