Cottage in Broadstairs, Kent, England - Moments from both Viking and Stone bay, close to restaurants and cafes.

Bleak House Lodge was built in 1801 as the lodge house for Bleak House, made famous in the novel of the same name by Charles Dickens. Located in a quite street in the heart of Broadstairs, the cottage is just a few moments walk from both Viking Bay and Stone Bay, as well as the many restaurants, cafes and bars the town has to offer. The property has been sympathetically renovated in 2014. It has stripped wooden floors and cast iron radiators. Where possible original features have been maintained, creating an authentic period atmosphere. There are separate living and dining rooms, both with open fires. Two bedrooms, one with an en suite shower room. Beds have very comfortable deep, sprung mattresses and are dressed with good quality white bed linen. There is also a beautiful south facing walled garden and terrace with table, chairs and a webber barbecue. The living room has a smart TV and wifi is available throughout the property. The living room opens up through to another sitting room (which opens onto the garden). This has a sofa, chair and extending dining table.The house is suitable for small children as the staircase leading from the dining room has a door. There is also a stair gate at the top of the stairs. A travel cot and a high chair are available for use, also a small box of toys for younger children.

We bought bleak house lodge as a holiday home and have spent 6 months on renovations, keeping the house as simple as possible with its original features.

In March 2016 We Extended the lounge to add another living room.

Notes on accommodation: The property has been newly renovated in 2014. There is ample free parking in the neighbouring streets. Outside: The mature, walled, private garden has a patio with a large table and four chairs plus two fold out chairs as well as a barbecue. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels, beach towels and linen are included. The property is cleaned before arrival. Cleaning can be arranged during longer stays. Other: The dining room has a large table and seating for up to six and an open fire. The separate kitchen is off the dining room. There is a large cupboard under the stairs with room for a buggy, coats, boots, etc.

Stylish and cosy, central but quiet.

The house has been refurbished beautifully and is very comfortable too. We spent New Year here and loved the coast on a winter's day then back to a real fire. Bleak House Lodge is a great place to stay, so close to the town yet very peaceful. Thanks Yvonne and Tim.

Fantastic cottage, full of charm

We had a truly memorable Christmas spent in Bleack house, complete with beautiful Christmas tree. The cottage is full of charm, period features with a modern twist, beds were exemptionaly comfortable and every little detail was well thought out. At just moments away from beautiful sand beaches, it's a fantastic get away any time of the year! Loved every second of it!

Beautiful cosy cottage a short walk from the beach

We had a great long weekend stay here - the cottage is well-equipped and cosy, and has been sympathetically restored. We really felt at home, and my kids loved the little garden with lots of beach equipment to borrow. Barely needed the car while we were there as everything is within easy walking distance, including beaches. We'll definitely think about going back.

Car: not necessary


The property is just a few moments walk from the sandy beaches of both Viking Bay and Stone Bay. Perfect for both children and adults alike.


Broadstairs Station is a 15 minute walk.

It is not necessary to have a car, all amenities of the town are within walking distance and there are good train and bus services if you want to travel further afield.


Close to Margate which has attractions such as the Turner Gallery, the Shell Grotto, and plenty of galleries, antique and vintage shops to browse.

Ramsgate, with its harbour, galleries, and restaurants is a walk scenic costal walk away.

Joss Bay, well know for surfing and the picturesque Botany Bay are a pretty walk or short drive east of the town of Broad

Refundable Damage Deposit £200

Booking Notes:
Please note that 3 nights is 60% of the weekly cost. 4 nights at 70% and 5 nights at 80%.
A 50% deposit must be made when booking the property and full payment including the refundable deposit (directly to owner) made within 6 weeks of arrival.
A further £200 security deposit against damage will be taken, and repaid within a week of departure.

Changeover Day:
In high season a minimum period of 1 week, Friday to Friday where possible (please note day of changeover has changed from a Saturday). will be accepted, although closer to the time we may be able to take shorter bookings. In low season a minimum two night stay will be accepted.
Arrival is after 3pm, departure by 10am.

Notes on prices:
We offer short breaks. 3 nights at 60%, 4 nights at 70% and 5 nights at 80% of weekly rates.
