Aveline in Moyenmoutier is a small end of terrace house, beautifully decorated, in the historic town of Moyenmoutier

Moyenmoutier lies in the Rabodeau valley between St. Dié des Vosges and Senones in the Vosges mountains and was named after the Abbey that was founded in 671. The house itself is just 2 minutes walk to the river rabodeau and the Abbey and a lovely selection of shops and cafes and two fabulous boulangeries where you can buy your daily croissants. If you are looking for a small rental property for two or three people, Aveline is perfect for you. The house has been tastefully decorated and a new kitchen and shower room have been installed, while the original doors and sandstone staircase have been preserved. Although it is a small house, the one bedroom is a good size and the lounge has a sofa bed for an extra person if needed. A corner kitchen is at one end of the lounge which is well equipped and there is a 61cm flat screen TV and DVD player on one wall. Private off road parking comes with the house.

As well as having our Vosges Farmhouse near St. Dié with our apartments Sapin and Sylvestre, we also now have Aveline in Moyenmoutier which we completely renovated inside in 2013. Now we rent out our apartments and house all the year round to holiday makers from all over the world and have met some amazing people who all seem to love what we have done to our home. Small, but perfectly formed.

We had a very good fortnight in this delightfully modernised, comfortable, property. It loses a star only because for a couple well over 70 the downstairs lavatory was a bit of a bind in the middle of the night. The house is exactly as advertised & for us, reluctant to travel to eat, the bang up to date oven & hob were a bonus. Jasmine welcomed us & brought a change of linen on the second Saturday. The tourist information provided included a map of the excellent Club Vosgesien waymarked walks AND the IGN 1:25,000 map as back up. Moyenmoutier is an attractive small town with the facilities described, plus the facility to buy the daily paper at the boulangeries, minus the butcher, closed on our stay - but the one in Senones is very good. We came for a restful, reading, walking holiday [and got it] so didn't miss WIFI . We can wholeheartedly recommend Aveline with only the one reservarion [for old folk] mentioned.

Clean and comfortable property for a couple.

Jasmine and Malcolm met us at the property to give us the keys and to show us around and left us a phone number in case of problems. (not needed in fact). The house was clean and comfortable and situated in the charming village of Moyenmoutier which had all the shops and bars that one could wish for. The neighbours and local people that we met were unfailingly friendly. It was also ideally situated for exploring this lovely part of France.The cities of Nancy, Strasbourg (take the park and ride trams) and Mulhouse (if cars and trains interest you don't miss the two museums here) and the historic and picturesque town of Colmar are a fairly easy drive away. More locally there are some pretty walks among the wooded hills and a fifteen minute drive brings you to a large lake with water sports and a clean beach to swim from.

We would recommend this property without hesitation.

What a beautiful place!!!

We had a lovely stay at Aveline. House very comfortable with all facilities we needed. We particularly enjoyed the shower!. Moyenmoutier is a beautiful village although, if you are looking for night life, it's won't be the place for you. Short stroll to a beautiful bakery each morning for breakfast and every one was so friendly. We climbed to top of La Haute Pierre at the back of the village (site of an 11th century castle now ruined). Wow!! the views were breathtaking. Loads to explore - great cycle routes (flat in the valleys and also mountain biking) all colour coded routes according to difficulty. We picked green - the easiest! Trips to Strasbourg (beautiful), Colmar (also beautiful) and into Germany were also worth the visit although fairly long drives. Lack of things to do in the evening didn't bother us at all as we were ready for bed early due to our action packed days!! Thanks Jasmine and Malcolm for a memorable holiday. Plus the complimentary bottle of Alsace Riesling was wonderful - we are converts. Vicki and Richard

Comfortable and well equiped

The house is very cosy and well equipped, is situated in a quiet area of the village. From where there are interesting walks or bike rides. the village is ideally situated for visiting historic towns like Strasbourg and Colmar.

Clean, Central, Comfortable

L'Aveline is perfect for two people. The house is clean and well-equipped and centrally located in the village. The view from the kitchen-dining room-lounge window is lovely. This area of France is 'off the beaten track' but well worth a visit. There are many good walks nearby. The village is also an excellent base for exploring the Vosges, the rest of Lorraine, and Alsace.

ideal for a couple as a base for touring the area

The property was clean and well appointed. The owners met us at the property and explained the facilities and gave us information about the area. There was also a stack of leaflets about the area. There are a couple of bread shops, two takeaways in walking distance and a supermarket.

We bought this little house in the lovely historic village of Moyenmoutier in 2013 because we fell in love the town with its Abbaye and the history of WW1. We discovered quite by chance the remaining German and French fortifications from WW1 on the hill behind the town during one of our weekly walks exploring the area. We have restored Aveline into a cosy rental property for 2 to 3 people, putting in good insolation, re wiring and re plumbing so that other people can come and enjoy the town too.

Travel:

A car isn’t essential for your holiday stay in Aveline as you can arrive by train to St. Dié or Etival, the next village and there are plenty of lovely walks nearby that you can do during your stay or you can borrow bikes from the owners. However if you want to explore the Vosges properly, a car is recommended!

Distances:

St. Dié des Vosges is 8 Km from Moyenmoutier, Colmar is 1 hour, the wine route in Alsace is 1 hour, Strasbourg is 1 hour drive and Nancy also 1 hour. Senone is 5 minutes drive and has a good market every week.

Easyjet flies London Gatwick to Entzheim Strasbourg (1 hour drive to Moyenmoutier). Ryanair flies Stanstead to Strasbourg. Car hire by europcar www.europcar.com

Easyjet also flies from Bristol,Edinburgh, Luton, Manchester and Gatwick to Basel Mullhouse (2 hours to Moyenmoutier)

By Sea

P&O Ferries offers Hull - Rotterdam (then 6 hour drive avoiding toll roads through Antwerp, Brussels, Luxembourg, Metz and Nancy) or

Hull- Zeebrugge (6 and a half hours drive avoiding tolls, via E25, Belgium, Luxembourg)

DFDS Seaways Newcastle - Amsterdam (6 and a half hours) avoiding toll roads via E25 through Belgium and Luxembourg

Further Details:

At the bottom of Rue de La Haute Pierre is a bank. Further into the village are 2 very good boulangeries, a post office, a couple of supermarkets with petrol stations attached, a Traiteur selling meats and ready made meals, some nice gift shops, a couple of hairdressers and flower shops. Twice a week the Poulet Roti van comes to the village.

The Abbaye gardens are in the process of being renovated so this will be a fabulous place to walk around and relax during your stay when they are completed! There are some spectacular walks on the Haute Pierre above Moyenmoutier from where you can see many of the little surrounding villages. There are also the remains of German and French fortifications from WW1 to be found. in the area.

From Aveline you are close to the city of Strasbourg and within 2 hours you can be in the Black Forest region of Germany. Or if you want to try the wine route of Alsace this is just an hours drive.

During the winter there is plenty of skiing available in the area and in the summer if you like lake swimming there are plenty of nearby lakes where you can plunge in to cool off.

When you book with us we only take a £50 deposit from you and on receipt of this we send you a booking confirmation which will secure your holiday and includes all our contact details so you can get in touch with us before your trip if you wish.

The refundable deposit of £50/€50 will be returned after your stay if you opt for cleaning the house before you leave, otherwise the deposit is kept as cleaning charge.
Tax de sejour is .90 centimes pppn. This will be calculated and added onto the booking confirmation.

Changeover days is Saturdays to Saturdays but during the low season we can be flexible by arrangement. Arrival time is after 4pm and departure by 11am

We have found that a lot of couples prefer a small rental property rather than a large one! Aveline is in a quiet road with friendly neighbours plus it is close to the village and you are sure to enjoy the wonderful cakes and fresh breads from our two boulangeries. There are the walks round the Abbey and the river or the hill behind the house and through the forest to the Haute Pierre is a must! A great base to explore the Vosges but close to everything you need.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: In February 2014 Aveline was awarded 3 stars with the Tourist Board. The house has been completely renovated with good insulation and new wiring and heating put in and then decorated in a contempary style to give holiday makers a very charming and comfortable base to explore the region. There are still a few of the original features such as the stone stairs and doors that we have kept to preserve the style of the house but everything else has been updated and modernised for your comfort. The very spacious shower is very welcoming and the house has a VMC system installed for your comfort. Because there is no garden, just a small patio area we are unable to accept animals at Aveline. Outside: Outside there is a patio with seats and a table for guests. The house is south facing so gets the sun all day! Utility Room: There is a large storage area, or cave on the ground floor with plenty of space to store your bikes, skis etc. Supplied are recycling bins and boxes and beside the cave is a laundry area with washing machine and tumble dryer. (washing liquid provided). Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All towels and bed linen are included in the rental price and the beds will be made up for guests on their arrival. Other: Outside is an enclosed terrace with chairs and table to relax and get the afternoon and evening sun. There is also private parking in the carpark located opposite no 8
