Utterly Secluded Thatched Cottage With Heated Outdoor Pool In Wonderful Gardens

Updated: 28-Feb-2016
Cottage in Sennen, Cornwall, England,15 Mins Walk To The Beach,Shops & Pub

No Place is perched on the coast path. It is a former Cornish Longhouse reputed to be the most Westerly thatched cottage in mainland Britain it provides luxury accommodation, a sun terrace commanding great sea view and a heated outdoor swimming pool (May to September inclusive). It is set in its own secluded grounds. The village of Sennen Cove with its wide beach, surf schools, harbour, pub and cafes is a short walk down the hill. The enclosed garden is divided into separate areas, traversed by streams with a fabulous Summer House and a large activity apparatus including a swing and a slide. With a wood-burning stove and aga, the cottage is also cosy in the winter.

Beautiful cottage

What an absolute gem of a property. From the moment you open the gates at the bottom of the long drive you know you are going to have a wonderful time staying here. I thought being such an old cottage would mean a damp, musty place, but I was sure wrong on that. Even though some of the windows are small it is a bright airy and wonderfully light property equipped with everything you could need.

The kitchen and both bathrooms are immaculate, the range an absolute joy to cook with (we never once used the halogen hob provided). The master bedroom is a beautiful room with a comfortable bed and plenty of light. The twin room, though feeling quite small, offers plenty of space for 2 adults, and the snug area above provides a lovely reading area (although the summer house in the gardens is just perfect for reading or relaxing - the addition of lighting and heating there make it user friendly all year round).

From the log burner, to the satellite tv and the most comfiest of sofas, the lounge is a wonderful room for relaxing or catching up with family/friends.

The pool wasn't in use when we were there (a real shame if it's heated that it can't be used in the Spring/Autumn seasons) but it is a great size.

My favourite part though was the roof terrace. With one glass wall overlooking the Atlantic it was a real joy to spend time there. A bit windy at times, there is plenty of space to shield yourselves - the only thing lacking was a table and chairs, but I was able to utilise the wooden loungers so it was possible to also eat up there - well worth doing so to watch the birds as they fly over the cove, while the para-gliders soar above you. It also offers a great view of Lands End airport and on a clear day the Scilly Isles in the distance (good binoculars or a telescope are highly recommended).

The only downside was that upon arrival we had no heating and were unable to get hold of the property manager for 3 days (we were given the wrong phone number as a contact for her and only a chance meeting with the gardener resolved this issue). Thankfully once we made contact we were told how to get the heating working properly - a real blessing after spending our time in sub-zero temperatures (the only heating source we had being the hob tops on the range - as there were no logs or fire-lighters we had assumed the log burner was not to be used (it had been very dry prior to our visit and I know a dry thatch is not the best thing if you have a fire burning)).
